    Fantastic video. Cleared up the confusion. I was about to take the camera apart and lubricate the shutter, only to realise that the Vito shutters DO NOT FIRE WITHOUT FILM IN.

    I recently bought a Vito B in what can be termed ‘immaculate condition’… Also, run through my first roll of film. Thinking about every shot - light, settings, framing, etc…. Takes me back to my first all manual camera I had in 1975. Great video - 👍

    My dad bought a Vito B in 1957. He and I used it until around 1985. I just ordered one from a guy in Germany. Looking forward to getting it.

    I found a bit different model, Vito BR, for very good price because it was "broken" like you described. As I have never in my life taken pictures with film camera (film camera sparked my interest in photography, bought Sony a6300 and rest is history). It takes a while to arrive so I decided to see if there is more information about that particular camera and happened to stumble upon your video. So fascinating to see the camera and how it works in with good easy to understand explanation around why I should not pull the winding lever when the cassette is going empty.
    I gotta say thanks! I'm eagerly waiting for new video

    Grreat tutorial, many thanks. I've just got a Vito-B (with the f2.8 lens & 1/500th shutter) and really like the connected aperture/shutter arrangement. An early "program mode" perhaps.

    Thanks for vid !. I bought a couple of these lovely Voigtlanders (Foigtlenders!) in the 'eighties. The first with the Pronto SVS and the other with the Pronto. Both with the 50mm f/3.5 Color Skopar, which performs, as expected beautifully. The Pronto version I sent to Les Frankham who collimated the lens and regreased it - new camera, which is 67 years old !. Dug it out last night, after several years in a drawer, self timer wasn't working but was OK after 30 or so shots, using film wheel to cock shutter. All speeds plus B are good. Prefer the Pronto to the Pronto SVS as less to go wrong but adequate speeds. Probably a Cliche but - will todays cameras still be working in 67 years?, no brainer really. Cheers, AL.

    me and my dad just bought a Vito B for an upcoming holiday to western Australia, as we wanted to capture photos that we would remember and could physically look back on, im only 16 and have never done any photography, but ive always thought there was nothing more warm and real that a film photo, seeing my dad pour through boxes of old photographs, each one with a story was something i want to do with my kids.
    I just had my first few photos today with a small amount of film that came in the camera but still doing research and figuring out how to work all the various parameters, i love how tactile and involved each photo is, any tips for setting the camera up right for a good photo?

    Why is there aperature settings on top and bottom. Also when i change aperature i dont see the size of aoerature change when i take a fake photo? Any idea? Is my aperature broken? Its always wide open.

    • @hypnotrixplays
      @hypnotrixplays 2 роки тому

      There should be 2 rings with aperture settings on them. One in red and one in black. Set your aperture to f4 on the black aperture ring, when you focus set the distance to align with the diamond on the red aperture ring. Now everything from f4 on both sides of the red aperture ring will be in focus.
      Search for the Vito B manual online, someone has handily uploaded a copy.

    I'm looking at this very interesting review... thanks for sharing it! Just a few days ago I bought a Vito B which is a little different from yours. It always has the small viewfinder, but I think it is an older model than yours, as it does not have the two side buttons around the lens which by the way I don't know what they are for.

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, there are 11 different versions of the Vito B cameras, the side buttons relate to the EV functionality, in their default position the aperture and shutter speed rings are coupled, depressing the button allows them to move independently, am I right to assume your version does not have the EV ?

      @John Burgess Hi John, really nice looking camera, sorry I don't have one, is on my wishlist 😁
      Would be interested in an update once you have shot with yours...

    • @jabetitbasen
      @jabetitbasen 2 роки тому +2

      @@thephotographersbag I confirm, apparently this functionality is not present. From a blog page it would seem that the model in my possession is from 1957. Instead, the one you show in the video should be from the following year, since after this the production of Vito B with a large viewfinder began. These are considered less elegant from a purely aesthetic point of view.

    Just got a Vito b, in pretty good condition for 100 nok (around 10 gbp), i have 1 issue. The crank, when film is inserted, takes 1 and 1/3 crank, is this fine? Or do i meed to fix the spikey disc thingy that charges the shutter? I have not looked at the film yet.

    My Vito B doesn’t have those buttons on the lens, therefore my red numbers don’t move,,,

  • @Skylarblue365
    @Skylarblue365 Рік тому +1

    The numbers on my Vito B shutter ring are different, that's so weird. It goes 300,100,50,25,10,etc. And it seems like aperture and focus ring are swapped.

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  Рік тому

      Hi, I don't think it is something to worry about, different shutters were used throughout the cameras lifetime, the speeds you mention are the "old" settings used prior to the ones we still use today, not sure about what you mean regarding the aperture and shutter speed rings being swapped,?

      @@thephotographersbag Basically on mine the F stops are on the front most ring, then it goes focus ring, then shutter speed to the back
