BNSF Coal Train Meets BNSF Manifest at Austin, MT 4/23/23

- I was heading up the pass and caught this loaded coal train just as the DPU passed Tobin. I hurried up to East Austin to setup for the mostly EMD consist. To my surprise, there was a eastbound manifest that showed up just as the loaded coal train passed through Austin.
Got dang them EMDs were screaming baby! That is some serious pulling power hauling those coal loads up the grade. Great video man! Love it
if they aint screaming, they aint working!!

That's awesome!! I'm train engineer in Czech republic, I can't imagine how cool must be drive so heavy train. My heaviest train had only 2 800 tons.. Compare with this coal train it was like a kiddie train 😂
This train is about 18,000 tons.

Great catch! I caught the same manifest heading east out of Livingston at 1330 that day. Haven't put the video up yet, the motel wifi is SLOW, but will do so. Going to be in Helena on Thur through Sun for the Railfair. Hope to see you there!

Look like SD 70 ACEs. 4400 hp each train consist 128 cars average weight. 140 total of just under 18000 tons Heavy even with 8 locos
Those lead units are GE I think are ACE 44’s the MRL are also Ge as is back pushing unit.

128 cars I counted x 40t each (that‘s a guess) = 5120t = ~2,5km length (estimated 20m / car ex locos).
Doesn’t sound enough to me.

Coal train was 129 cars and manifest is around 89 cars.
