Looking at it, it seems Troy doesnt have that weird thing TWW2 has where if a cav/chariot unit isnt being told to directly attack something, it wont hurt it even if visible collisions are happening. Cav launching units with a charge but doing no damage because theyre attacking the unit behind something is wonky.

Sayeth Achilles to Agamemnon after the slaughter: That was a bit anti-climactic, dontcha think?

I love Warhammer, I have 2k hours in it now (thanks to you), but I love Total War as a whole...aside from Empire, that game can die in a fire. Thanks for the great content
archers are the second most broken thing. even the tier 1 spear throwers can do seriously damage if you know how to skirmish with them. and then you have chariots
@@clairelili873 On the other hand, shouldn't this work this way? All previous historical TWs had very weak ranged units. It's the first time they actually are this important in battle. In Medieval II you simply take 20 units of best infantry and don't bother with ranged units. I kinda like how it is with Troy, especially since there is no gunpowder or no artillery.
They aren't nearly as op as in Warhammer 2. Way less damage and accuracy, and it feels like the unit speed of infantry is way higher so they close the gap a lot faster and you have less time to shoot at stuff. And besides harpies, all ranges units are laughable in melee so checkerboard isn't nearly as effective. And in sieges you are royally fucked with an archer based army as well. You can still make ranged units work but with chariots and flanking being more viable again actually breaking units and stuff, calling archers op is a big overstatement
Sometimes i feel like the total war series just stopped caring about unit collision after Medieval 2 and Shogun 2. It's like all the other games are like "yeah, i know that these 2 units are engaged in a brutal melee but i'm pretty sure that they can just ignore them and move away if they want.
The only time it does care about unit collision is when one horseman finds himself stuck in the middle of the enemy formation when trying to pull back after a charge, causing the entire unit to re-engage in combat every time he gets hit.
After watching your stream and you saying how you didn't want to risk your mental health by going back to a Saga title - it is truly heart warming to see you do this content and enjoy it and get a good response from it. Stay well dude!
It is kinda historical for chariots to be op since during the bronze age all the major powers were having an arms race of who could get the most chariots because they were so strong.
Well that's pretty accurate: if you were to get hundreds of chariots charging like that in the Bronze Age, you'd massacre the enemy. The truth behind the cheese
Historically, chariots in the bronze age was for archery and the like - never meant to clash into things, especially not infantry since most infrantry in the bronze age was spears - your horses would be dead in seconds and you would have lost your life and an expensive war asset. Chariots ran down fleeing enemies, shoot them fra afar and and teased enemy units to move and chase them - they were not for doing crazy movie like things. At that time we dont even have evidence of horses willingly charging in battle - it took literally hundreds of years before we had horses breed and trained to do so. I dont care for this game but i hope that one day there will be a bronze age war game that is historically correct
But I can't imagine them being cheap and reliable on any terrain. Imagine rolling full speed on these wooden wheels against a line of spearmen. Old time madness really
@@holysword876 true. Horses would stumble and fall with 50 corpses around their feet, and just a few charriots would fail. I believe the Hyksos had a lot more and did use them like this against the Egyptians, but we were not there and can only guess.
You previously said that you don't want to stream Troy because people aren't interested in the game but your first video on Troy got like 3 to 4 times more views than your regular videos. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would prefer a Troy livestream over a Warhammer 2 one where you already covered all the factions.
He's apologizing because he basically snapped at anyone who asked / begged him to cover Troy during his streams over the last few months because "fuck CA" or something. His claim that the videos wouldn't be profitable has also pretty clearly proven to be false too. Happy he took the penalty to his reliability rating and covered Troy, these exploits are entertaining as fuck.
The LOD system that load assets is a circle with a straight line, they didn't even bother to blend it. They don't rushed the development, they literally jumped over complete phases.
It's not related to Troy but i'd like to see weather effects implemented in the TWW series along with perhaps some effects for night battles such as changes in range or accuracy for ranged units if it's stormy weather or dark. You could also have things like areas that get boggy when it's wet so it slows down troops and drains them faster to exhaustion whilst dropping melee stats. Just made me think about it at the start of the battle when it showed the weather.
I like how the chariots yell "Iceni" upon receiving an order. Not only they didn't bother to test their balance, they didn't even bother to check their voicelines...
They are saying 'For mycenae ' or just 'mycenae' which is because he's playing Agamemnon. They actually say different things depending on which Hero you started with. I think the voicelines are very well done. The unit collision, spy balance, supply lines and AI? not so much...
I'm a big Warhammer fan and I also love Troy's setting and theme, I'd definitely like to see more coverage of Troy on the channel even if it's just a side thing to the main content of Warhammer stuff.
Thats how chariots should go trough light infantry.. not like in warhammer where largest chariot struggle go trough 2 lines of skaven slaves or goblins... But ofc they need to be balanced some other way then.. maybe lower the dmg?
@@17ftd They were also obsolete in war after horses were bred large enough to ride, Warhammer chariots are effectively slower armoured cars disguised as chariots for the rule of cool.
lol. Looks like things haven't changed one bit since Rome: Total War from 16 years ago. Chariots could destroy almost anything in a field battle there just by running back and forth through units. Only elephants or deployed phalanx units could counter them.
The hilarious part is that in Warhammer 2 chariots are stinky, and that's not a historical game. But what do I know, maybe in the ancient times, people really died when a chariot simply touched them.
@@MasterhpIke At least in Warhammer 2 Chariots only have 3 entities per unit on large unit scale. It's like the Devs forgot to change the mass after quadrupling the entities relative to infantry.
@@MasterhpIke I don't know what you are talking about. As long as the chariot unit you are using has more mass than the unit you are attacking it will absolutely demolish the unit and not take any damage running through it. It starts taking damage if it gets stuck.

Just going to point out that historically, and I realize this isnt a historical game per say, but historically a Chariot army of the period would completely destroy an Infantry Army of the period. Chariots were the super weapons of the late Bronze Age, of course they'd be using missile fire, not ram and slam like Legend is doing. :)
In reality: one of the horses or the driver is dead, the whole chariot is gone. In game: no don't hit the horse or men on it, you need to break the cart in order to destroy the chariot

And then more chariots stack on top of the previous chariots, and then more, and then more, pushing the first ones through any formation they were stuck in. The horses don't seem to be existing entities at all here
@@ingold1470 most of the Warhammer chariots also run into the problem of being too efficient in charging, per model. Although being a fantasy, it's much more acceptable, but they still have the dilemma of having too few chariots per unit to properly make a difference as archery platforms at the same time as adding more chariots per unit would totally break the strong melee chariots.
Historically, in the Bronze Age, battles were often determined by who brought the most chariots to the field that day. Chariots were the dominant weapons of war in the bronze age so it makes total historical sense that they would be broken in Total War Troy.
I've struggled a lot with deciding which heroes should be on chariots and which shouldn't, more based on theme and style, plus the other skill option is always pretty awesome. So Achilles walks because Sunder is incredible, and he challenges everyone. Agamemnon goes on his chariot because he becomes a wrecking crew that compensates for his other skill. In a town battle, he ended up parking the chariot sideways at a choke point and held up 6 units by himself, acting like a wall. It was purely accidental, but while he piled up bodies like cordwood, the rest of my army routed the defenders and I sent my missile units to butcher the enemy blocked the the Overlord of Mycenae. Chariots are terrifying and it makes Sarpedon the easiest playthrough because he starts with access to his faction specific chariots that are better than other chariots. The only reason I don't spam them is just to keep things interesting.

Yeah that sucks, Grom the Paunch is the only acception as far as I'm aware he does constantly attack while moving that and some other stuff combined with how it fits for his role in the army makes him way better then he seems at first glance.
You basically found an Achilles' heel that can take out an entire army

i did this with only centaur units, they're are little harder to get, but. they dont stop moving.
Chariots are at least stoppable by archer, Centaur is complete cheat.
And lo, Agamemnon, in shining mail girded and upon his chariot, sayeth to Achilles:
No wine sack am I, see how shall the King of Mycenae lead the charge against Priam's kith.
Chariots of Achaea amassed, in fell array, into the Trojan flank dids't they foray.
Trojan bows and slings did twangeth and twirleth, to no avail, Achaean chariots on Troy's field did prevail.

I'm glad you're covering this game, you are TOTAL WAR, not just warhammer. I think we all want to see you cover more than one game series/IP.
I love Warhammer, I have 2k hours in it now (thanks to you), but I love Total War as a whole...aside from Empire, that game can die in a fire.
Thanks for the great content
You hurt my feelings with Empire...
I love the naval battles there :3
Empire is the best total war after Medieval 2, you cant change my mind
Archers are broken too, especially under Paris, no need for artillery when you have bowmen.
i might be wrong but aren't archers are kinda bad in this game? slingers feel so much more powerful and have better range
archers are the second most broken thing. even the tier 1 spear throwers can do seriously damage if you know how to skirmish with them. and then you have chariots
odysseus with skirmishers and javellins is also rly strong
CA: Troy will be a game focused on the infantry vs infantry combat
Legend: Just spam chariots lol
Playing Troy now. This doesn't work in 2022. Once the spears snare you its over.
These chariots are like Zerg, covering and consuming their enemies.
"We are the Guards of Troy, last line to defend our city!"

"Surtha Ek breaths heavily"
Careful legend, you don't want to get black listed again before warhammer 3 comes out.
"You know... if your slow"
Boi I love your comments so much xd
Same happened to me. 1 rebellion had a chariot unit that destroyed me and I was like "damn, gotta try that out myself"
It is kinda historical for chariots to be op since during the bronze age all the major powers were having an arms race of who could get the most chariots because they were so strong.
tho they were very expensive and in the end sea peoples fucked them up with foot infantry
Riiight
@@slavywavy They only "Fucked them up" because those kingdoms were already falling, also they were in a shortage of bronze
This is why spear units should have a square formation that destroys mounted units that try to attack them
It doesnt matter if there are no collision to stop the chariots from just running straight over infantry and stun lock them in progress.
Chariots slaughtering everything? This is probably the most historically accurate representation of Bronze Age warfare.
But I can't imagine them being cheap and reliable on any terrain. Imagine rolling full speed on these wooden wheels against a line of spearmen. Old time madness really
Next time Legend makes a promise, remember this day.
"THE CHARIOTS DEMAND BLOOD!!!"
I had no idea the ancient Greeks had weaponized steam rollers!
Troy is a Historically Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
Well, back in the days, charriots WERE kinda op
But they werent used this way, they were op at skirmishing
@@holysword876 true. Horses would stumble and fall with 50 corpses around their feet, and just a few charriots would fail. I believe the Hyksos had a lot more and did use them like this against the Egyptians, but we were not there and can only guess.
You previously said that you don't want to stream Troy because people aren't interested in the game but your first video on Troy got like 3 to 4 times more views than your regular videos. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would prefer a Troy livestream over a Warhammer 2 one where you already covered all the factions.
dude stop apologizing for covering Troy or TOB lol if someone doesn't like it they don't need to watch
To be fair, Troy does have muddy patches on the battle maps which slow movement depending on the weight class of the infantry
there's a great mod that does that . day/night cycle and lots of different and lore friendly battle weather
@@dracowar6
Interesting to know thanks. Do you have a name for the mod to make it easier to find?
Shogun 2
Ahh i see this is the legend of how try fell. It wasn’t a giant horse. It was a lot of horses.
I like how the chariots yell "Iceni" upon receiving an order. Not only they didn't bother to test their balance, they didn't even bother to check their voicelines...
They are saying 'For mycenae
' or just 'mycenae' which is because he's playing Agamemnon. They actually say different things depending on which Hero you started with. I think the voicelines are very well done. The unit collision, spy balance, supply lines and AI? not so much...
Now i get it! The Trojan horse wasnt a big wooden horse...it was the horse pulling a chariot!
Legend, we actually want you to cover this game though.
Don't speak for everyone mate
Play whatever games you want man, I just enjoy the content you make, simple as that.
The doom stack!!
But ofc they need to be balanced some other way then.. maybe lower the dmg?
chariots were not supposed to be charging enemy though
@@17ftd They were also obsolete in war after horses were bred large enough to ride, Warhammer chariots are effectively slower armoured cars disguised as chariots for the rule of cool.
im glad you're making these videos, i have 0 interest in troy but i love watching you cheese so these are entertaining anyway
When the automatic video resolution goes below 720, it looks like all those units are having a Dutch Flag under their banner.
Imagine if they had like, 2 play testers. It takes days for people to find this game breaking stuff, glaring issues cannot exist without someone turning a blind eye.
Imagine if they had Legend play test it. I’m pretty sure he would do it.
@@robinekhoodekful I think he mentioned in a previous video he did help discover other bugs/ect. for them in Troy in testing phase. I just dont get why a random youtuber guy has to play test for a huge game studio. Its almost like development budgets for most games has decreased in proportion to paying non-essential workers like CEO larger and larger amounts.
@@earthyring4393 the excuse is that this was developed by CA-bulgaria, not CA proper. kinda like what happend with mass effect andromeda.
ofc that's no reason why they couldn't hire decent playtesters, but it's the line they'll go with
These herds of chariots look like something out of a nature documentary
Troy feels like a running gag at this point.
It's not, it's actually a solid game, definitely better than ToB. But it does need a thorough patching.
@@Jandau85 i dunno, it feel extremely underthough and underdeveloper. just a little experement, but broken and boring to play.
An entertaining gag at that
I dunno, I'm actually enjoying the game.
@@sanderkiki Of course it's an experiment, that's what Saga games are about. It's no more broken than most TW games on release (think of the TW:WH2 cheese on release), and I'd hardly call it boring. Granted, I'll be waiting for a patch before sinking more hours into it, but I do definitely look forward to playing it more.
i dont i couldve conquered troy if i didnt saw this video.
Im playing on easy and after playing 24x7 since release i finally reached troy. But that huge army wiped me out 8 times, till i tried the chariot spam. Thanks man!
Nah, you're not a hypocrite. The situation changed. Turns out Troy was made of cheese all along!
Blobbing up with chariots would cause the scythes to maim the other friendly horses around them.
There weren't any scythes chariot back then anyway.
This is actually happening in the first stages of the game when your chariots are not so good.
In reality: one of the horses or the driver is dead, the whole chariot is gone.
In game: no don't hit the horse or men on it, you need to break the cart in order to destroy the chariot
meanwhile me:
-computer runs tw:w2 on medium/high settings

When cheese is this delicious, it would be wrong not too share it
>"There's no collision in Troy"
>Chariots run into infantry unit and immediately stop.
And then more chariots stack on top of the previous chariots, and then more, and then more, pushing the first ones through any formation they were stuck in. The horses don't seem to be existing entities at all here
@@houndofculann1793 Must be like Warhammer chariots, which are basically slower cars.

"ha ha chariots go brrrr"
