  • After our Preview Visit we decided we did want to move to The Villages. We sold most everything, packed up a U-Haul and made the journey to The Villages Florida.
    We closed on our new home in Hammock at Fenney on January 13th - went back to Texas to pack - and arrived back in Florida on February 3rd.
    We want to thank Jerry & Linda - The Villages Newcomers - for being so gracious to us. We learned so much about The Villages from their channel. We highly recommend that you check them out: / thevillagesfloridanewc...

    We got in the car, gave our attorney in NY the POA and the closing was done without us. They just deposited the check in our bank account. You are determined. We did 6 hour days with our dog from upstate NY. Could not stand being in the car that long! You are impressive!!

    Hey Roy & Karen thank you for your videos!!!
    My husband and I were just down in The Villages and signed a contract on a house April 6th (we choose a pre owned Monticello in The Village of DeSoto) also coming from Texas (Granbury)
    I especially loved this video because like you guys coming with 2 dogs (English Bulldogs)
    Just yesterday we donated all our furniture to help people affected by the wild fires here in Tx. With what we have left (our bed and boxes) we also will be driving the same route you guys did... So glad you 4 made it just fine!!!
    We close on our house here in Texas May 16th and close there May 18th..
    Maybe soon we could get some dinner at the Finney Grill and you guys can catch us up on all you have learned since moving to The Villages???
    My husband also will still be working for a couple more yrs..
    Take care guys!!!!

    Truly incredible how things worked out, it was meant to be. I could hear the excitement in Karen’s voice as you got home.

    Yes, one issue is the rentals, we went down and found out 3/4 of the homes on the cul de sac were rentals. Worst part no one told us.

    This was great! What a great story!! Would love to hear more about you guys, what you do for work, balancing work life and TV life, home tour progress videos, how the your family took the news of the move, so you have kids, all sorts of stuff would be neat to hear about!!

    I just sat down and watched all your vids and subscribed. Fellow Texan here (from New Braunfels). I’m more than a little jealous that y’all are already in TV and loving life it looks like. Husband and I have our lifestyle visit in May but we have lots of loose ends to tie up before we can buy too. For instance, we have a son about to start college and I’m not sure how that would work with him, so we might still be a few years off. Anyway, I look forward to more of your adventures and would love to see more of your home as you get settled in.

      Howdy, and thanks. Right now all we have is bedroom furniture. The dining and living room is being del'd in May. We may still do a tour before, but we have so many other videos planned. Stay tuned.

      I will tell you from experience as we are closing on the sale of our R.I. home on 4/29 and immediately following making the long drive to TV to rent for a couple of months while we search for a home to purchase is start getting rid of stuff now you have no use for. Also, start packing now what you want to take but have no immediate need for such as meaningful items like your grandmother's vase, etc. Getting rid of stuff can be an emotional process, and starting the process sooner rather than later will make it much easier for you.

    We bought the same ebikes. We love them! We stayed in McKinney TX for six weeks and put one hundred miles on them. We don't get to use much in Minnesota yet. Can't wait to bring to the Villages. We'll have to look you up.

    One of my closest friends lives in Leander! We once lived in Houston in the late 80s to early 90s. In 1990 we drove straight though from Houston to Orlando, 19 hours with a toddler in a Ford Escort Station Wagon to visit Disney World. That was crazy! You mentioned having an RV. Do you still have it? If so do you have to go back and get it?

    • @ToRetirementAndBeyond
      @ToRetirementAndBeyond  2 роки тому +1

      We "had" an RV that we sold around 2010. We'd like to go RVing again, but the prices today may have put an end to that dream.

    I wish we could commit to the Villages as easily as some can. We too are from Texas (Fort Worth) and I am having a hard time with the idea of moving to Florida but I want to live in the Villages! We first visited last Spring and then we did our Lifestyle visit in Nov and absolutely loved it! My problem is I love Texas and I love my home! When we bought it 17 years ago we thought this would be our forever home. We have remodeled and decorated just the way I wanted it. Never once considered moving somewhere else and up until a year ago had never even heard of the Villages. One we did and that's another story I had to visit.
    Our kids are all over the world but 2 live here in Texas and we have 3 grandkids here too. It is hard for me to move away from them but I still consider the move. My husband and I are probably older than the average person moving to the Villages so that is something else we think about. I look at the homes available everyday. Thats another dellema I face. I would prefer a new home but I want to be closer to the restaurants and shopping. Ideally I would like to be between the 6s. 66 and 66A. So beautiful too. But then again I really want to buy new. I could go on and on but I better not. We are planning tov. visit the Villages again in June-July for a month.and we are finally going to make a decision. Either move to the Villages or stay put and stop contemplating. Its this year or not at all. My sister took the plunge and her and her husband are moving from Ca to Melbourne Fl at the end of the month. She's leaving all her kids and grandkids in Ca.. Sorry this is so long. We will be watching more of your videos as they come out.

    But I noticed on UA-cam about people moving to Florida especially in the villages. I lived in Florida 37 years you get used to the humidity and heat you get climatise I love Florida in the villages and people just need to understand it takes a year to do get used to the climate when you love it that’s my opinion

      @@ToRetirementAndBeyond Here are some of the things we would like to see.
      Why did you pick that home, features you were looking for?
      How was the closing process at The Villages?
      Now that you have been there for a while, what if any good and bad surprises have you come across?
      What do you think of your village?
      You insight is so helpful. Thank you very much.

    • @ToRetirementAndBeyond
      @ToRetirementAndBeyond  2 роки тому

      Most of your questions ARE in our planned upcoming videos.
      Some up and coming videos:
      OH NO! Did we make a mistake? [Our two month review]
      Why did we pick THAT village? [Spoiler alert: We LOVE the village we picked]
      What I can share is that we NEEDED a Courtyard Villa for the backyard - we have two boys and we both still work - and when the boys need to go, they need to go. We could have picked a Veranda - a designer home with a fenced yard - but that was beyond our $ means.
      As for features, we NEEDED the backyard - that was our number one priority. Everything else was preference - and we pretty much got none of our preferences in exchange for the backyard and an incredible price of under $300K for a brand new home in The Villages. We can always add nicer countertops and flooring.
      So I would recommend to anyone looking for a home here, prioritize. When the time comes to make a decision you need to know what is most important. Some people might not care about being close to the Turnpike - to others that would be an impossibility. When a home comes on the market you will not have a lot of time to make that decision, so be prepared.

    Did you buy new furniture? Did you look for used? Trying to decide how much furniture I will eventually bring

    • @ToRetirementAndBeyond
      @ToRetirementAndBeyond  2 роки тому +1

      We had all dark furniture and decided that we would be re-designing in Florida Coastal Colors. So we sold everything in Texas except for our couch [replacement would not be available for 9 months] and our mattress and adjustable bed frame.
      We had never bought the furniture we REALLY wanted - we were pretty frugal for 30 years.
      So we decided to finally decorate our new home just the way we want. That meant all new.
