We are stunned with the quality of this interview in part because of the contrast to the crass mediocrity of our time and culture. Brando is brilliant and this interview a treasure.
Many of us grew up reading as our primary form of learning , past, present, important speeches, political, military matters, social issues, psychology, geology and even the news. Reading slows the brain down where it absorbs at its best rate, and we may even re-read parts over. I did. Fahrenheit 451 has happened , but the books haven't been burned yet. In another few decades or century will people read ? I agree with you.. these hi-speed apps are dangerous for the young mind and older mind.. it dumbs people down. I pray for the future and hope that these important videos , great philosophy and historical meaning get watched by younger minds. Im grateful the internet lets me learn and re-read. Brando was really prophetic. Thank you for posting this interview.

This is a gem. I find all of Brando’s interviews fascinating but he’s usually battling the corporate interests that plagued him through his life. This is by far the best I’ve heard, thank you for putting it out there. He was really allowed the time and freedom to respond in his own way here. I would direct anyone who is interested to his autobiography which is also very good - songs my mother taught me. A great actor, yes, but much more than this. He had the courage to stand alone in some sense, which seems so rare.

Brando fascinates me, i read his autobiography, watched most of his movies, basically a high school drop out, but such a mind, such a philosopher, his view of the world and society and so many subjects on human nature are mind blowing. Genius.
Thanks for uploading this gem of a moment in time, it's 1963 and the changes that are on the horizon have yet to happen.....

He is absolutely marvelous thinker and philosopher, I am in love with his raw honesty, his depth and his courage to speak on topics that were taboo., and at a time where it was very unpopular to do so. Today we know any entertainment industry individual who speaks about politics or social issues becomes a target of the media, the general public and anyone and everyone., they risk losing everything and never getting any employment opportunities. Marlon was a man with many vices, many of whom originated from his early childhood trauma and neglect. As I read his biography I sense he didn’t take anything seriously and especially not his acting career, which made many people get angry at him, because they took their acting careers very seriously and with a great deal of superiority and arrogance, to Marlon acting was a means of making a living and not the entirety of his existence. That’s why he put buckets on his head, pranked and made jokes and continued to clown around the sets because he realized life goes by and his life was about being an actor alone..!

I lost it when I stumbled across this. Massive Marlon fan and I've watched all his interviews multiple times. Not to mention, the incredible documentary on him, Listen to Me Marlon...which I'd highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. This interview is an absolute treasure.

A man so far ahead of his time, people just didn’t understand his depth. I’m glad he was able to go as deep as he could in this interview, one thing with Brando is there is a lot of interviewers who ask him very shallow questions and you can tell he doesn’t respect it. Not many will be here again like Marlon Brando. What a human!

A beautiful timeless soul who was definitely more than just an actor. Very intelligent, eloquent and demanding in conversation. You could talk to him about all topics of life and the political world.

Every time I listen to this, and any interview Brando has done, I find something new and brilliant in Brando's interpretation of humanity and life. Marlon Brando was a genuine genius, raw and truthful, on a level few people have ever reached and researched within themselves ! One of the most brilliant philosophical geniuses of our time. His acting was beyond any actor of our time, but his mind was more brilliant in the area of psychology, humanity, and of what it means to be a human being..than any PH.D teaching at an Ivy league college. Most other interviewers missed the boat by asking him frivolous questions, this interviewer asked the deeper questions which totally show cases Brando's brilliant mind..best interview ever ! Thank You for sharing ! So glad we have this insight and record into Brando's Brilliance for generations to study !

Rico, you make a valid point. Intelligent without virtue is false intelligence that crumbles over time. Brando said himself on the stand at his sons trial that he lead a meaningless life so he’s not one to emulate. He was an incredibly talented and interesting guy but definitely not a prophet. All the problems and conflicts he addresses can be solved by following Christ but that’s just not fashionable and requires humility which is greatly lacking in every generation

Marlon Brando is the greatest actor because of his unmatched acting range. From 1950-60 he played a paraplegic in THE MEN, Stanley Kowalski in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, a Mexican revolutionary in VIVA ZAPATA, Mark Anthony, a Hell's Angel in THE WILD ONE. Terry Malloy in ON THE WATERFRONT, Napoleon in DESIREE, sang and danced in GUYS AND DOLLS, a Japanese man in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, a contrite nazi in YOUNG LIONS then directed ONE EYED JACKS.
Don't forget his great work from the 60s. Mutiny on the bounty, Ugly american, Reflections in a golden eye, and burn in which he did his best acting according brando himself.
He was so cool and collected.
This is the best interview I have ever listened to. I wish more like this was available. It would be great to have interviews like this of all people. We are all better people when we dive deeper

Great idea to have it on your mobile. I have it on my mobile as well, and have listened to it when I’m in the kitchen cooking. The debt and complexity of his thoughts are remarkable. How prophetic some of his discourse was in this interview back in 63.

He's very insightful. People can only be enlightened by knowing themselves. But its difficult because it requires slowing down and being quiet of mind, and people cant generally do that.

Thank you. I loved this interview/talk. Harry Dean Stanton (fellow actor) had a similar beliefs & they had long talks on the phone the last 3 years of Brando’s life. HDS’s last film was entitled “Lucky,” was autobiographical & about enlightenment, but many westerners know nothing about enlightenment. These men traveled widely & were exposed to much more culture than most in the US or whole North America. These actors both hated small talk & really wanted to stay in the present moment. One of Harry’s quotes in his movie, “Small talk is worse than awkward silence.”

The only interview ive heard in which Brando s allowed to be himself, he knew it too, a far cry from the usual crap .he was used to. Studs let people express themselves, and always knew his subjects.

We can listen into his labyrinthine sense of existance. Ps studs Terkel was also born in the year of rat 12 years previously. This as student of chinese astrology confirms a point of common understanding that is epic here how they bounce off eachbothers track.

The guy’s always been quite interested in the spiritual wisdom from the East. Actually, one might say he happened to be born a westerner, but he felt he rather belonged the rest of the World.
