What a fantastic musical. Edith Piaf’s collaborator, Marguerite Monnot, church organists daughter composed all of the music (well, one song is taken from…..). The original script in French, however, is impossible to find so far…. I’ve been searching off and on for about 15 years, at least
Is the full play uploaded anywhere?
Very nice! The closing song “Christmas Child” is missing…. It is actually adapted from a French Christmas Carol by the composer, Marguerite Monnot, who worked a good deal with Edith Piaf
What happened to the green dress and bow??
The film was such a disappoiintment. All the music numbers cut out for no reason. And they bypassed the brilliant 'Freedom Of The Seas' sequence altogether.
@@anniespencer1936 do you mean that awful Jack Lemmon & Shirley MacLaine “vehicle”? I’ve refused to watch that hack job!
@@anniespencer1936 The songs were dropped because Billy Wilder didn't think they were all that great - and neither did the studio. He'd seen the show and didn't like it, but he loved the stor.y They thought the songs worked on the stage but wouldn't on the screen. The original choice for their Irma was Marilyn Monroe, and Wilder desperately wanted Charles Laughton of all people for Nestor -so his vision of the show was very different. Shirley MacLaine signed on before the screenplay was finished and she hated the film. But audiences loved it, and it was a huge hit. You can hear the original songs as background music throughout the film. The original show was a fable really and it was a huge hit all over the world. Bu when it comes down to the wire - no songs from the show became hits. So ?????
Where did they get this Irma from? She ghastly. This show was totally charming when it first appeared. This looks like the high school musical. Dreadful.
