- Is it possible to beat Borderlands 2 as Captain Blade? What if we tried it on OP10? What if we didn't allow off handing the Orphan Maker? Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands the Pre-sequel, and Borderlands 3 all have guns that can get pretty wacky, but wacky doesn't always mean good. In this challenge run, we try to beat the game as one of the most feared pirates on pandora.

Captain Blade was the most feared pirate on Pandora long long ago. through treasure hunting missions we can find the gear he used to become so infamous. Today we ask ourselves.
Can you beat Borderlands 2 as captain Blade?
Obviously, captain blade isn’t a playable character in borderlands 2, but his gear scattered throughout the Pirate DLC can make us pretty close to the real thing. All these items are cursed and provide a negative effect on us. The rapier makes getting punched hurt more, the Orphan Maker hurts to shoot, the manly man shield makes elemental damage hurt more, the Otto Idle makes the fight for your life shorter, and the Midnight star ejects child grenades toward the player.
They do have benefits but some aren’t that helpful. The rapier is the best melee weapon in the game but since we're on OP10 melee isn’t really viable especially on a gunzerker. The manly man shield adds a 40% explosive damage bonus to melee attacks but it’s also quite useless. The otto idle returns health upon kill but it's only like 8 percent and if the orphan maker is our main source of damage, it pretty much cancels it out. The orphan maker's damage output is pretty good, so we have that going for us. And the midnight star has uhhhh wait what does it have (typing noises) increased damage and reduce child grenade count, huh. We’re also gonna use a legendary hoarder class mod to keep on theme with pirate stuff and it helps us gunzerk more so all curses can be active at once. Real quick on the rules, Geared OP10 challenges are my style so that’s how we're gonna go about it. All skills are allowed (with discretion as to not avoid the challenge) No bar, and lastly, no left handing the orphan maker. The reason for that last rule is because the self-damage doesn’t trigger when left-handing which would defeat the purpose of the run and momma ain’t raise no game exploiting POYO. Ok on to the run first thing I did was choose my skills, chose asbestos to counteract the manly man shield and because of the cool gasmask icon, fist full of hurt, and double your fun. The rest of my build is pretty trash, I Really regret not picking up No Kill Like Overkill. Most of the beginning of the run was spent learning how to not die. And how to properly go about fights. It was immediately apparent that my FFYL time was short and the 9 percent slag chance is absolutely infuriating. Also, I literally never played the gunzerker on PC so I had to get used to a lot of dumb shit, like the inconceivable glitch where your guns don’t auto-reload when they’re empty, I really hate that one! And most importantly I had to learn the shot pattern of the OM, usually, this gun is pretty good but the Jacobs stock makes the accuracy recovery extremely low. 7 brutal and quick deaths in I realized I forgot to turn my BAR off, so we had to restart. luckily, I caught it early, ide needs a straitjacket if that happened halfway through. This time around I decided to try to use some grenades and well, that didn’t go great. I also tested how much self-damage the OM does USUALLY borderlands gameplay goes, I shoot them, and they die” but this time around it went “I shoot them and we die” so if I don’t have any shield I’m practically not allowed to shoot my gun, I didn’t fully learn this lesson until deep into this run though. Making my way to boom boom I tried the Midnight Star again and just like before it was actually worthless. To add to the challenge, I decided that the grenade mod wasn’t allowed to come off, so grenade jumps were out of the question. Boom boom was ready to blow, and I was ready to go, sike I got pooped on. Boom as always gave me trouble before I got lucky and took em out. - Ігри

a challenge run that actually has unique mechanics instead of just “bad thing run?”” amazing theme.
More themed runs are planned in addition to “bad item” runs. I’m going for a good balance though!

Future bad gun runs I want to try to add more themes to it like “CYBBL2 with only the Infinity?” But I tape the trigger down so I’m constantly shooting or something along those lines. And as for the pirate skin I’m not sure.

I'm not gonna tell Lilgasmask off for doing that, however I will say that that did not seem like a very smart idea.
Although, if I was playing through this challenge, I'd want to die of a Monster overdose too.

My monster consumption used to be pretty bad (3 a day). Beside this run, I’ve been down to like 3 a week.

I think Flynt gets confused because he uses his arena as an attack. He may be perfectly capable of shooting you, but he's trying to use his flame floor, but he's not in the arena, so his AI gets completely borked.
I like to imagine that Blade had some really Strange skill trees that made most of the drawbacks positives for him.
Probably explosive and elemental resistance, Maybe a Grit skill mixed with his shotgun, I'm just thinking of his skill tree lol

Honestly this might've been better on Krieg as he gains a lot of bonuses from being hurt and can use melee more efficiently. Though to be fair- he is absolute hell to play in endgame.
Yeah main reason for picking Sal was to have ALL curses applied at once for the theme of it.

I think my favorite thing about the Captain Blade gear is the idea of the curses, and how it's not some insane thing like with the Bain. They're interesting and make you think of how to use them, I wish they'd implement a "curse" to other weapons for a good trade-off

among all the items the orphan maker is the only " decent " for Op 10, the shield and rapier are kind of useful for normal mode and TVHM, but the relic and grenade are more useless than useful, and also great video
Orphan Maker is awesome with money shot sal, so much damage at one time, its amazing
OM is far more than decent, vgrip rustlers OM is one of the best shotguns in the whole game, especially on salv where off handing it negates the downsides.

The ogre and flakker are actually good weapons. The other two guns fucking suck tho. Also the love thumper is gonna need triple tediore unless I'd kill myself. This actually looks genuinely hard. Good suggestion
5:00 if you zoom in, you can see the rapier is doing so little damage that it is actually healing him knowing this I probably would’ve never done the challenge so congratulations on completing😂❤
If you did not know, whenever you get to defend the beacon. If you save and exit I believe eight times in that area it auto completes the challenge for you and you could just fast travel to sanctuary. If you would like to do a run to where you do as many glitches as possible that would be a really useful one to skip a lot of time
I heard it was breaking the beacon 8 times, which can be done using the swordsplosion friendly fire glitch where you drop it before the bullets hit the target, In this case being the beacon, then if you save quit it just completes it. You might also just be able to save quit 8 times and it works idk i havent tried
Not sure because I see speedruners break it. So maybe it takes a couple save quits? Not sure.
I believe I've seen both done. But I've done the save quitting myself. Going in to Zaffords bar and then to the beacon, save quitting will then allow you to spawn outside Zaffords bar as well. incase someone didn't know.
Tbf that will be easier since using the sword splosion in challenge runs with other weapons might be considered cheating.

This really takes me back to my noob Axton days of pure UVHM suffering in Torgue DLC. Only when I somehow got to Rex with the best thing in my arsenal being a corrosive Bandit SMG (and two green shields, amp and adaptive ones), it was more like "I shoot him and I die".

Then you listed the debuffs of everything that isn't the orphan maker and I understood, just know I already feel bad for you and I'm only a minute and a half in.

This run just confirmed for me-
*SELL Captain Blade's equipment*
Freedom Gulag has to be done in a particular sequence. It's similar to your story of the Arizona fight in the EG run. You have to go down the far right hand corridor for starters, and also run past the sensors because otherwise they can keep spawning loaders indefinitely. The Warden occasionally breaks between waves, for long enough to give him some crits, and IIRC he doesn't health regen, so I just fight through about three waves, critting him when I can, and then he dies.
It's been years since I've played borderlands but I remember using the orphan maker almost exclusively so it must be somewhat good
Yeah some peeps use it during their one life runs. It was kinda the saving grace of the run, and the biggest danger…
Its good on Money Shot Salvador when left handing it, as left handing it completely nulls the effect making it a really good shotgun with no down sides

Also, about the beacon fight at overlook. If you trigger the save point at the holy spirit and then save quit 8 times, repairing the beacon each time, the fast travel station will appear and you don't have to fight a single enemy.
I also thought Jack's body double disappeared in my last playthrough, but I think the waypoint on the minimap eventually stops updating because I found him back at the original location.

The extremely terrible grenade could probably help with loaders and construction bots but you might die every use
