    This was so great. Would love to see a video where you breakdown the approach and pitch selection from some of your appearances. I always think it’s great to know what’s going on in a pitcher’s mind.

    This video was insightful and I learned more about how these pitches work (especially the cutter)
    I can't wait to see the other categories of offspeed/breaking ball categories

    @Trevor May Baseball - In college, my father was such a sub-mariner: his fastball was his curveball and his curveball was his fastball.
    P.S: His knuckleball killed three guys.

    I just found Trevor's channel and wanted to say its shed some light on how much the game has advanced since I played at a high level (minors) 25 years ago... i.e. @ 4:15 this pitch around 2000 was unhittable by all but the best like Gwynn, Bonds, Walker, Martinez, Griffey, Helton, Berkmen, Guerrero, etc. (roids don't help you much here). That pitch started outer half and thigh high, then for the last 10ft it dove down and in 8+ inches at 98MPH! These athletes are something special today.

    One seam fastball, AKA: Running fastball. Known as a, "running fastball," as the ball will run in various directions, based on the pressure applied by which finger. Typically, the run is a natural run, determined by the pitcher's natural grip. If you naturally throw the ball with more pressure on the index finger, it will have a different result then a ball thrown with more pressure on the middle finger.

    Excellent! Especially appreciated the difference between the 2-seam and sinker. I want to hear about Joey’s churve and Daisuke’s gyroball. And do you consider a split-finger fastball not really a fastball?

    There's nothing more important to pitching than location. In my opinion Trevor has very good stuff but when he gets hit is because he's missing spots. In my opinion guys should be practicing hitting targets knees corners more than anything else they do. Even with the stuff Jake has he gets hit middle belt high.

    what's the difference between the FORKBALL and the SPLITTER?
    Or Is it true that they are the same? but on different ERAS of baseball.

    • @TrevorMayBaseball
      @TrevorMayBaseball  Рік тому +2

      It’s 90% the era, but there are slight differences in the grip. Basically the forkball was the first version of the splitter and was focused more on the width of the split fingers. The modern splitter has a 100 variations.

      Definitely wanna see a breakdown on 4-seam vs 2-seam change-ups/circle changes. I know Kyle Hendricks manipulates the heck out of his to get different movement profiles, would be awesome if you can show how that works. (Also when you retire, we need you at SDS to get more realistic pitch movement into The Show)

      Splitter....heard it's difficult. And I never knew where to place the ball with my thumb, after seeing how you grip...you use the inside side of thumb while I've been holding it with the palm of my thumb like an idiot.

    I loved throwing the 2-seam when I was in little league, though you may have called it a 3-seam from the grip. Coach thought it was a curveball because of the movement (~10-4) and got mad about it. As you probably guessed, I had a lower arm slot when throwing and that caused the lateral movement.

  • @michaelcahill4534
    @michaelcahill4534 2 роки тому

    Loved throwing a cutter growing up. Had no command of a 4-seamer so it became my primary pitch. Saw Mo do a demo on MLB Network and used his grip. It worked lol
