Ive Flow the 757 t/a a few times, with United in economy plus from Hamburg to Newark (9:10 that day due to headwinds!) and in business with continental from Düsseldorf to Newark, and even cologne to Newark, back in the mid 2000s. Also transcontinental several times, which is comparable. I’ve experienced all classes the two airlines have offered. I think two factors are decisive when it comes to your trip experience. 1. Your position in the aircraft - the further forward the better in terms of comfort due to aircraft motion and noise level. 2. Seating class - obviously Polaris/business/first is a game changer, and flying in United Premium Plus is quite pleasant, and perfectly adequate for a daytime flight, IMO. But even economy plus (which is automatically available to me given my status) is a significant upgrade over regular economy in terms of spaciousness, and I don’t think it’s that pricey if you have to purchase your way in, either. Well worth it, IMO. Gets you further forward too. If you’re stuck behind the wing in most aircraft and airlines, in regular economy - yeah, it’s not exactly pleasant. Yes, rhetoric 757 is showing the age of its design and a number of little ways, but I still like flying them if I’m in one of the premium cabins.

I took that exact plane to PBI not too long ago and was sitting right in the isle across from you so it was cool to see exactly where I sat again!

757 is more than capable to make that flight and I'd argue has much more space than a 777 economy seat. I think it's a psychological thing flying an aircraft with a single isle transatlantic. Even the A321 neos provide more comfort IMHO.

I have to agree completely. Have flown JetBlue A321, Aer Lingus A321 and Play A321 and A320 across the Atlantic. More overall personal space in all these flights than many I’ve had on most wide-bodies in economy. Deplaning is usually quicker too. I agree there is something to be said about a twin isle making it “an experience” but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with narrowbody planes for medium and long haul. I will be taking a United 757 to Portugal in April. Looking forward to it.

I didn't see anything that made this flight terrible, to be honest. I may not be United's biggest fan but this didn't look so bad.
The B757 "sardine can"...have you been stuck in the economy section of a B777 before? If you can't sleep in a B757 then I doubt you'd do any better in a bigger plane. Sure, the seat could have had more legroom - fair - but that's UA''s decision and they offer pretty much the same seat and room on their larger planes. And the food and IFE are pretty much standard across the airline on similar flights. The only real gripe of a Transatlantic narrowbody, in my opinion, is there can be a line for the lavatories as the ratio of passengers to lav can be worse than bigger planes. However, it can also take as much as 5-10 minutes less to get off the smaller plane when you arrive, by my unofficial estimation, which is a bonus that usually negates the lavatory experience to me. Others may feel differently.

Yeah the 757 is no more of a sardine can than any other narrowbody.

Maybe start getting your own spelling correct mate before pointing out other peoples.

A lot of people make that mistake. Aircraft has no plural in the English language.

Too bad you were stuck in economy on such a flight. It's no fun.

@@Jack_Rice Flown the 757 a few times transatlantic, back with American when they had them, and most recently 2 months ago on United. Economy was so crampt!

@@Tpavra I've flown many times across the Atlantic on different airlines, different aircraft types. The A321neo narrowbody aircraft can be just as comfortable as some widebody aircraft...the B757 is older and slightly narrower than the A321s, in fact it has the same fuselage diameter as the B737 series (and B727/B707, if we want to go old school)...it's not terrible but it does give up a few important inches to the Airbus. However, except for legroom, which is the airline's choice, I don't find narrowbodies to be significantly less comfortable than some widebodies in coach/economy - I'm looking at you B777 and B787!
