Thank you for sharing! I occasionally have sketched and painted on vacation-older and retired now and feel motivated after watching your video. Feeling blessed ❤️
Hi Sharon! I found your channel by searching for those in the nature journaling community that I could connect with! I watched & liked & subscribed! Love your 2 little birds and the turkey out the window. I have that book by Claire - it's great. I was going to take one of her workshops this summer but because of the virus it was cancelled. So I am just trying to connect with others of a like mind! Thanks for sharing.
Sharon, this is so beautiful! I'm so glad you got into nature Journaling! Your pages are so lovely. I have the book you just got, very helpful. I hope you have a great day! Lots of love 💗💖🌹♥️💜
Thanks so much Aetna. Actually you were part of that reason for me. I have been wanting to do it for quite awhile.but i just never did it. I am enjoying it. I cant wait to sketch. I’m just so busy right now.😊
Your nature sketchbook is so pretty. I think I may start one soon. We don't have wild Turkeys here...But we do have ring necked Pheasants...they are gorgeous! I look for them often while outside. Hope you are enjoying your weekend ! Take Care ! 🌺🐦🦋🎨💗💗
Lovely birds❤️. I don’t get out much because of the discomfort of sitting, and my love/hate relationship with mosquitoes. They love me; I hate them. I’m drawn to nature journalling lately, especially after seeing sketchbooks like yours. So pretty.
This is so inspiring! You make me want to start keeping one too! You know, they have a butterfly show down here in Cincinnati at the Krohn Conservatory that I take my daughter to every year. They have hundreds of butterflies loose that are all in one room that will land on you and everything! It’s pretty cool!
The Detroit zoo has one too only it is birds and butterflies. It's amazing and give. You wind around on paths until you make it through to the other side. There's a butterfly house in Port Austin that is small like a big greenhouse and they asked me to volunteer. Maybe next year! 😁 But I am going to buy tons of butterflies favorite plants like milk weed etc and plant them on my property. You should keep a nature journal it is fun. Although I haven't had any time in the past couple weeks.
I must have missed a video. I do not remember the other book. I will check to see. Anyway, you are really inspiring me to start a nature journal. I just got two little landscape h2o journals for Mothers day. I really think I will use one for a nature journal. We have those wild Turkeys in our yard here too. Well until my dogs run them off. I also got Arteza's watercolor pencils for Mothers Day. This will be my first watercolor journal. I wish I could get a pic of the fox that lives behind the house. Our back yard goes straight up a mountainside, & there are huge rocks protruding out that forms like small little cave-like area's. And there is a female that keeps her din up there. She has pups every year. But I never am able to take a pic fast enough when they come in the yard. Your birds turned out beautiful. TYFS
As a few other people have already indicated, Sharon, your advocacy of nature journals is very persuasive! I think I might start trying a weekly entry or so - because the sketches can be very simple (and don't need backgrounds, complex composition etc) they're ideal for those 30-60 minutes that we sometimes have available ... ... not long enough for a full-blown painting, but more than enough for a quick ink & wash sketch of a bird, a flower, a garden rock etc etc. Thanks for sharing the video with us all, Brian.
btwilks exactly! It is the only thing i have had time for with my move but even then some days are impossible.. it has been 11 days since i could even pick up a pen. Mostly because I’m in too much pain with packing/unpacking to do much of anything else. You should give it a go! 😊
We call them scrub Turkeys here. They can be real vandals. After our floods they were very handy though. They cleaned up peoples yards to build their nests. They are cute in a weird sort of way.
Cheryl Smith that’s funny. We had them in the city too. Never had a problem. And they are so skittish up here in the woods that all i have to do is walk by a window and they spook.down in the city they don’t budge. ☺️🙃
Thanks. 😊 I don't know the name of the palette but I did a review on it a couple years ago and it should be in my reviews Playlist. I'm sorry I don't have a good internet connection to look for you.
Hi Sharon, I'm enjoying your natural journaling so much! Have you ever done a video where you show your equipment and set up you use for making your videos and also what you use to edit your videos? I have grandsons who live at a distance from me and I would like to make little painting videos so that I could teach them to paint in watercolor. This would be a wonderful way we could share time together. I believe they have artistic talent. Or do you have your equipment listed somewhere?
I don't have equipment listed. I am just using my phone. The video capture is terrific and I edit on my phone. But I will try to show how I do it except I can't show my phone if I'm recording with it. I'll try to do this very soon. But we are under the gun to get out of our home now since we close very soon. 😊So I haven't sketched or painted in Almost 2 weeks!
Thank you Barbara. So far you're the only one who has responded to that. But I think ppl forget unless I say it at the end of a video. I'll sketch on video next time. We'll actually I think I may have another video to edit before I record more but I'll get to it very soon 😊
Yes I have that book as well as his book on Nature drawing and Journaling. He is a naturalist, environmentalist and professor at the University of Ca. He has written I believe around 10 books but only 3 of them are art books. He ha books on bird watching, and identification as well as hiking. He also writes resources for home schooling and nature journaling. I think I have a video about him somewhere in my lists.
@@SharonCullenArt I'm so glad you've heard of him and have his books. It really encouraged me when he said that a nature Journal is not an art portfolio, (Because I'm terrible) but it's a written or drawn Enriching memory of What You observe. He's coming out with a new book soon. How to Teach Nature Journaling: Curiosity, Wonder, Attention How to Teach Nature Journaling: Curiosity, Wonder, Attention www.amazon.com/dp/1597144908/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_A3nqEb0JAWFM4 It will be available, June 23rd.
Thank you. I have spoken to many viewers who have this problem beginning a sketchbook and I have always said that a sketchbook is just another pad of paper until you put your heart and soul into it. I always recommend that if you begin a sketch, don’t stop if it isn’t turning out the way you had envisioned in your head. Quite often this happens to the best of artists, so finish everything, good, bad or ugly! It is all a learning experience. And no one has to ever see it. It is like your own visual diary.
Thank you for sharing!

Yes we have them too. In fact my hubby got a pic and I'm going to paint it.

I love your idea and practice of making a natural journal! Thank you for sharing!

I understand that. Can you sketch standing or just walk around your yard and snap a few pics then paint them at your leisure?
Sharon Cullen Art I really should 👍🏼.
Really pretty Sharon. What kind of journal are you using? Nice and relaxing choice of music.
Thanks Jill. I'm using A Pentalic Nature Sketch journal in 6x9". I want to use it up and then I'll move on to my hard cover journals.

Yeah I hate when that happens. We have a red fox that lives down our road and I haven't gotten pics of it either. It is hard!

very old video. Not sure what you’re referring to. But if it is the journal, I believe they haven’t sold in a while. may be out of business?
Have you seen the book by John Muir Law? "The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling". Its the best! He also has video's on UA-cam.
