- "Just Let Go" from the critically acclaimed Sturgill Simpson album "Metamodern Sounds In Country Music." My personal favorite track from the album and that's why I assembled this slideshow, though all the album tracks are fantastic.

“If you close your eyes it becomes so easy to see.” I love that line!!
If this is one of your favorite Sturgill songs thumbs up!
This is the most beautiful song ever written
93 is my number and this is one of my favorites. I hope everyone is doing well.
I never thought I'd hear Buddhist elements in a country song. Love his music.
Or psychedelic drug references.

@@dkatomski Thats basically the whole album.
He said, "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them, guitar strings?"
He said, "Boy can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
Sturgill checks everyone of those boxes. He is a BAMF. Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of the world. Thanks Dan for posting.
My goodness....this is the stuff that needs to be listened to! Artists like Sturgill and Chris Stapleton give me hope for a real country music resurrection.
It is out there, you just have to break out of the mainstream. There are some amazing writers out there and singers. But the controlling media companies have an agenda to dumb the populace down. I have had the conversations with Nashville songwriters and they are asked to Dumb their content down. "You know keep it along the lines of a third grade level when you are writing for our audience" This straight from the top to a writer. So boycott the one's who play the big game and support real independent artist like Sturgil ... Check out Doug Seegers - Going Down To The River + Lyrics On Screen!
I agree! I've been listening to many artists like Sturgill & lots of TX/OK singer/songwriters for years. I live in GA and all that is on the radio these days is Pop Country (Bro Country). I don't hate ALL of it and I even like a few (very few) of the new guys like Eric Church because he has real artistry......yeah, there are some novelty songs, but most of his I like. My fave, besides Sturgill, is Chris Stapleton. He's a phenomenal act and riddled with talent. Thanks for the suggestions. I will check out Doug! :)
Very true
Erika Chastain It's called Trailer Park Pop Cuntry and it is on it's way out the door.

We can only be so lucky if it does!
my brother committed suicide march 10 2017 and both of us were getting into Sturgills music, this song ended up on his music video picture collage we made for him
Woke up today and decided to kill my ego
It never done me no good no how
Gonna break through and blast off to the Bardo
In them flowers of light far away from the here and now
Taking a fourty-nine divine day vacation
From reality and all else in between
Gonna transmigrate to my destination
Far beyond time in an eternal dream
But am I dreaming or am I dying
Either way I don't mind at all
It feels so good you just can't help but cry
You have to let go so the soul may fall
Oh my God it's so beautiful
Everything is a part of me
It's so hard looking through all the lies made of love
But if you close your eyes it becomes so easy to see

I thought it was... ‘I’m gonna change my grave to my destination.’
@@divinefemininewayshower Your comment made me go through it again. I changed a couple of words. I think "wool" is actually "love", crying is just cry...
@@GuitarNerdTexas The cutting grass version seems more clear. Crying rhymes with dyeing, lies made of wool .
I created and uploaded this video in May 2014, a few days after I saw Sturgill and the band on my birthday, in the last intimate show i saw them play at The Station Inn in Nashville. I knew it'd be the last time I'd probably get to talk to him or see him in this type of venue because his star was destined to shoot far. Very well deserved and so happy for his success.
And the 14 thumbs down I see clearly do not know good music and need to stay the hell off my channel.
Dan Deel They need a heavy dose of psilocybin and a hug.
+Dan Deel The (now) 870 thumbs up make the (now) 15 Thumbs down, redundant. I can see why this is your favourite track off the album.
Dan Deel this is such a beautiful song. He just recently played in a really small bar near me. you're right. this guy is heading for stardom.
it has helped me let go
Dan Deel hey, dont worry about the ney sayers, pretend they aint there. they are not worth the mention.
The "Alan Watts" of Country Music, ladies and gentlemen.
Was introduced to both Watts and Simpson recently. My ears have been enjoying themselves immensely.
Terence McKenna?
Wow, what statement. Never thought of it like that.
Sturgill does not want to be known as the savior or country music. That being said...you can't fight the masses Stu, you have been chosen!
Yeah.....in this business, you kind of are what people say you are.
Bullshit.
49 divine day vacation on the 50th day it shall be a holy convocation !
Gotta say I'm relived that there is hope for Country music. I thought it was lost.
His voice and style is incredible. I love the authenticity.
I'd like to think that cats like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, are looking down on this kid and saying well done Sturgill, atta boy!
This young man has an old soul, one hell of a way with words, the chops to deliver them and guitar playing skills to boot..... He's as legit as the day is long and a much needed breath of fresh air.
Keep'em coming Sturgill and do it at your own pace and style, screw the label-man; from what I see and hear you have your finger on the pulse and he's got his thumb up his ass.
thanks for posting this song!
400 OTD
Proud citizen of breathitt county ky., this boy's hometown. And I'm just waiting for this guy to admit he's waylon reincarnated.
I'm gonna go ahead and hit repeat.
KarlHungus99 More than once my friend...way more than once.
Progressive rock guy here...Luv this Sturgill dude.
This album changed my life
Know the feeling
This track transports me, heals me, inspires me, and helps me know that everything is going to be ok....and we're all going to be with the one's we love. Thank you Mr. Simpson.
Smoke some DMT.
@@dkatomski goddamn right
Nashville sucks! This guy is a breath of fresh air. I just found this today. I am a fan already!!!! Bad ass 1000 thumbs up
Dude lives there, so you don't know what your talking about
Wayne Lain you're right. He said he has nothing to do with the music industry there. It's just ironic he lives there. Said it's a great place to live but he's never gonna be part of the machine
@floridasoldier - Mind your manners, Boy, you are in the presence of St. Simpson.
I love this 100% better than any country music on the radio today. why don't we hear it on radio. I guess that's the way it goes!!!!!!
This song changed my life!
It’s a very touching and beautiful song
This man's music is amazing. I just can not say enough about how much I enjoy listening to him . This song is one of my many favorites of his.
"Taking a 49 divine day vacation
From reality and all else in between
Gonna transmigrate to my destination
Far beyond time in an eternal dream"
It's all beautiful, Sturgill, the voice, the music and the lyrics. I am in love.
Every time I replay this I think Ill eventually get tired of it. I listen to this song about every morning on repeat. I still haven't gotten enough of it yet
I've only recently discovered Sturgill Simpson, and I must say, I like what I hear. His voice is unlike any other I've heard. So full of emotion. He sings songs about so many different things, unlike a lot of country artists who only sing about broken hearts and the like. I strongly believe that originality counts a lot when in comes to art of any kind. And he's original with some traditional thrown in.
Sturgill gets it... Thank you for blasting off into the light of flowers and coming back to tell us through this beautiful song..
DMT!
Brian Oxford my man! I love this song...
Anyone who would thumbs down is probably a Luke fan
never heard of her
+David Ferrell Or worse, a Florida Georgia Line or Taylor Swift fan.
+don guyton Taylor Swift is pop, not country.
+Darren Katomski so is 90% of the crap they play on "country" radio these days.
I'm gonna bet they've got religious reasons and they're saying "What are you doing intruding on my beer and pick-up country music with some actual thoughts and ideas?"
This song is really beautiful. The best of the best
Damn good song...Although I'm an old 70-80s Metalhead, my daddy cut my teeth on old country(Hank Locklin, Jimmy Reeves, Cash, Willie, Cline, Jennings). This song reminds me of him and those old great tunes. :-) Thanks for posting hoss.
Modern country with great songwriting and production that doesnt sound like a toilet? COUNT ME IN
Connor Moritz Yes, it is modern sonically and thematically. I wandered into a random tent at Coachella last weekend and discovered this musician. His set of music made my weekend. It's all I've been listening to since.
Amen
This is what not only about real country, but what real music is about. Mad respect
14 people thumbs down wow, there's alota wisdom in me saying when i woke this morning, "I WAS BREATHING" someone, somewhere, HATED ME FOR IT! S.S. may fame never succeed in corruption of your soul. may fortune seem to always FOLLOW YOU.. this is by far the best song on the full album, y this music HASNT been on local country radio stations here in Ky. until just recently.. WHY?? I mean this man is so AWESOME!!!!
Johnny Ballinger 40 thumbs down now, quite unreal, must be lovers of the frat boys and sparklebritches. This is my favorite track off the album too.
Dan, you can't think of it in absolutes, you need to think of it in terms of percentages. 42 down and 1951 up. That's approximately 2 percent, that means 98 percent of people who've bothered to hit the thumb hit it in the up direction. That's insanely good for youtube.
people are never going to like the same 100%.not just this but with anything. no need for this type of comment anymore
Never heard of him until last night Some one told me to listen to him. Man I really like his music!
One of my favorite songs of all time
49 devine day vacation, this guy is one hell of a writer , singer, unreal, ..
Just Awesome!!!! Country Music has Hope with this man right here! Real Country Music.
I like this kid... Keeping country real...
Best song ever :0
the new generation has forgotten this music :(
Damn it's so good to hear actual country that doesn't rely on lyrics about trucks in every song.
Every day, I feel this song I have something come over me ! Bro your music is a blessing. Thank you.
Thanks to a friend for sending me the link to this song, this is what II call the best tunes that I have ever heard. And I'm sure most would agree. Sturgils music is now my go to tunes.
Sturgill, thank you. What this man has done for country music is entirely revolutionary. All the respect in the world.
I love this song so much. Goosebumps every time I hear it.
Sturgill is a Breath of fresh air , congratulations on your Grammy Nomination !
Excellent music incredibly talented
my little brother turned me on to sturgill and i love his music. from Westwood denver. Thank. you little brother love you forever

Sturgill rocks!
A voice that truly sounds great!
Try to kill my ego at least once a month for proper growth of soul = ) Glad to hear someone finally singing about the psychedelic experience again = ) Everyone should experience dmt , lsd , mushrooms , masculine , and salvia divinorum !! I bet this whole planet would be a lot better place for everyone to live in . The human ego is a horrible thing to impose on such a beautiful world = (

Just discovered Sturgill recently. "Just Let Go" is a great song! I find myself listening to it several (10-20) times a day.
This guy is unbelievable..
One of the best songs I have ever heard! I can't quit listening to it. Sturgill will be in Austin, Texas in a few months. I am going to try like hell to get to his concert!
Wow his music is sooooo good.
Outstanding Dan, thanks for posting this. It's great to know others are as moved by good music as I am.
Beautiful song. Glad to hear this music, and the response is phenomenal.
This makes me miss my home in eastern ky. Il be moving back home in two months and I cant wait
I dont know what kind of country music this is but i love it!
Discovered Sturgill Simpson on Mushrooms. Changed my life.
"Woke up today and decided to kill my ego" wow that really hits home for me.
Sturgill if you do ever see any of this stuff , Give Thanks for your Art !
Can't imagine being pawed at constantly , & not being as present in your loved ones lives. The up side is your spreading the "Light" on Thick ! We can't wait to see you in Charlotte , you were excellent at Farm Aid.
Somebody much wiser than me one said " It lonely at the top , but it's a bitch at the bottom " lol
Blessing's
Stand Up Comedian Billy Wayne Davis brought me here. On his episode of the podcast "Me & Paranormal You" he specifically mentions this song after discussing his experiences with DMT
Not One Single "dislike"----->***NOT ONE***!!!
Damn Straight. I wasn't much of a country fan. Like some old Outlaw Country and had "NEVER" bought a country album. I have bought *BOTH* Sturgill Simpson albums!
Next Up to buy if you don't know her people---->Lydia Loveless!!! Check her out too!!!
Is... is this a country song about a psychedelic trip? O.o
I only just discovered Sturgill Simpson today, purely by chance by following a complete stranger's recommendation, but I'm damn glad I did! First song I heard already made my day, I'm not sure how I still keep getting happier the more I listen to.
Yes, DMT trip.
Phenomenal ol buddy. Don’t ever stop chasing that passion. Great job bubba. Can’t wait to hear more.
AWESOME MUSIC ! Have downloaded all his music, can’t wait to see him live someday here in Atlanta !
This has become my theme song to keep me grounded. Sturgill is awesome.
hell of a guy and singer... love it!
DMT like this song is beautiful! Peace, love, & light!
This guy is the real deal, folks. Probably will never hit it "big" because he is "man" enough to not play the game like "the music industry" wants it. One helluva voice on this cat!!
great music and voice. my case manager at my doctors office recommended this.
such a beautiful song
This is my favorite track too, Dan! It's the first song where I went back to his website to check out the lyrics. I googled "Bardo", and long story short, I've been a hardcore fan ever since. "Taking a 49 divine day vacation" is such a brilliant line! Thanks for sharing.
This is the one. Excellent job, Dan.

Not sure if y'all realize. Buddhist believe it takes the soul 49 days to re-incarnate. Thought knowing that would help understand the song a little better. Sturgill Simpson's music, specifically this album, has really touched me and has helped me through a period in my life where i happen to be doing a lot of deep, reality based, meaningful soul searching.
David Dahlquist
Bardo is also a buddhist element describing the state of existence between two lives
I did not know that. Connects it all. The whole album is so beautifully written. I was just picking up new metaphors in "Living The Dream". "I don't need to change my strings 'cause the dirt don't hurt the way I sing" is brilliant. The album happened to have caught me in the midst of a serious look at Buddhism myself and I can't stop listening to it!
i think the song is about his ayahuasca or dmt experience for sure!
Ross Arntzen try Todd Rundrgren's Healing. Incredible album that means something more. Second Wind is good too.
Simply incredible
my favourite artist ever.great post dan thanks
Makes my heart melt to hear your singing 💖
guys really great !! just a great way to get some great sounds ! awsome !! about time !!
Damn good Dan... Love this, hell of a job! Makes me dream of a better time and place! I love to put myself there every time I hear this song.
This song hits.
While you're here, check out Sturgill's set at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park (SF) in 2017. It's over an hour long and will kick your ass...
Great song!!!
Great song
The black and white of Sturgill at 1:48 looks like something from the 1860's.
Nice job! Thanks for sharing this.
Sturgill Simpson, the country singer who brings philosophical rumination to his twang, has proved his crossover appeal with wins at the independent music industry's awards.
Simpson was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year and also won for Heritage Album of the Year on Thursday night in New York at the Libera Awards, the annual prizes of the American Association of Independent Music.
While the awards are open to any artist who is not on a major label, "indie" has traditionally been associated with guitar-driven rock without the gloss of commercial pop.
Amid a growing mainstream audience in the United States for country music, Simpson has been playing major music festivals including Coachella and Bonnaroo.
While his genre often focuses on base instincts, Simpson has described his latest album, "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music," as a philosophical journey inspired in part by the writings of French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
Teilhard wrote of the concept of consciousness, a theme which the Simpson explores on the song "Just Let Go," which is rooted in the Kentucky-born singer-guitarist's embrace of Buddhism.
what a gift we have in him
Excellent
Amazing song. Sturgill is the man.
beautiful.
this song is dope
Sturgil is the truth.REAL country music
There are other country musicians I like but Sturgill Simpson stomps all over them they cant even compare to this man
Sturgill has an awesome thing going.if you ever need a base player for tour look me up bud.I'm in all the wAy down that long white line!!!and can go!
Love the slideshow, thanks Dan. You can his soul.
I know there's a Buddhism element tied into the DMT experience here... but... that is the most beautiful ode to DMT that could ever exist. The last line: "When you close your eyes it becomes so easy to see." If you've ever experienced DMT you know exactly what that means.
100% love this.
WOW - While his genre often focuses on base instincts, Simpson has described his latest album, "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music," as a philosophical journey inspired in part by the writings of French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
