Seriously! This dance has so many moving parts to it with different people doing different moves at the same time that compliment each other and people moving in and out of frame. It must have been so amazing to watch them film it! The only other movie dance sequence I could even begin to compare it to is the school dance sequence from "Grease" and even that would've been considerably simpler to choreograph than this (in terms of choreographing around camera movements and the sheer number of people dancing in close proximity at the same time).
this WHOLE SCENE was added during final filming, because the director decided the movie was too short (1 hour 25 minutes). So they quickly choreographed this dance to stretch the run time .
The fact that EVERYONE missed the part where he literally calls out the DANCE CLUB to take over while everyone else stood on the sidelines, still annoys me 20+ years later. The whole school wasn't doing this dance. 🤦🏾♀️
Exactly, it was the most creative way to explain why an entire room of people would break out into a choreographed dance and soooo many people missed it. It's a shame because they finally made it make sense!
Nah, I graduated the year this movie came out. Never had synchronized dances like this at any of the proms I went to, nor did we have a campus DJ for my school. So cheated.

New one looks cheap
Because this one was made for theatrical release and the new one was made for Netflix so it has lower production value.

Finally. He even said, "And I know you've been practicing."
Yes! And we learnt something similar at my high school ball (I’m Australian). Not nearly as coordinated but we all did it that took the lessons
