Hopefully this can make Aoki learn and embrace the word respect and no longer spouting nonsense. For those who doesn't know, Akiyama/Choo Sung Hoon is Aoki senior (in MMA) and in a higher class weight. Aoki keep challenging Akiyama but refuse come up to the same weight class. They even offer to meet at the middle (where Aoki will gain some weight and Akiyama will loose some) but he stubbornly refuse. So Akiyama challenge himself to lower his weight (13kg in one and a half month). Such dedication after almost 2 years hiatus. That 55 punches should be enough to instill respect on Aoki.
i was just about to write something like this after watching what Aoki said to Akiyama……didn’t know japanese people could be so disrespectful especially in a sport like this. Aoki has a lot to learn from Akiyama. He refused to gain weight to meet in the middle and he damn paid for it with his face. What a performance from Akiyama he deserves so much credit and you could tell what it meant for him by his reactions. Big up Sexyama and Aoki better treat ur seniors right🤡

This victory was monumental for SexyYama.
1. Proved himself by losing pretty much 13 kg of muscle and winning after 2 year hiatus
2. Got to smack the kid whos been talking crap for a decade
3. His identity as 3rd gen Jainichii (Korean/Korean descendants living in Japan -Apple's new Pachinko dives deep into this) always made him an easy target.
They used to give him so much salt for wearing both the 🇯🇵 🇰🇷 flags on his shorts, now he's the "hero jainichii" 😑

Akiyama said in a Korean variety show that he passed out twice in the first round for seconds when he passed out, he thought of tapping out but then heard the crowd chant sexy Yama. After that he resolves himself that he will lose by passing out rather than tapping out. The crowd played a big role he said cause if there are no crowd he would've tapped out. That's what I remember from what I saw.

This was such a good fight. The build up was full of tension! Round 1 was intense, the sound Akiyama made in the choke was loud. I won't spoil the match but in the end the respect they shown for eachother was admirable to see. I was up the whole 9 hours watching these fights 👍

Insane fight. Shinya Aoki is one of the most dangerous grapplers in MMA but, Akiyama is an experienced Judoka. He put up a great fight resisting the choke & Aoki ate those punches, you could see it on his face he did not want to give up.
Akiyama is a 2 time Olympian in Judo. Big difference in skill set. Shinya Aoki is a phenomenal grappler and Judo practitioner as well but Sexy Yama competed as an Olympian twice against the best Judo players in the world - and won both times. Aoki's Judo isn't anywhere near as good as Sexy Yama's despite Aoki being a Blackbelt. Olympians are on a completely different level in terms of skill.
@@pikkon899 For sure, Olympian Judoka are beasts. Shinya’s arm bars are very dangerous though, I’ve seen him submit people even Judoka with flying arm bars. Both are dangerous grapplers but Sexyama is more experienced and a more complete fighter over all.

@@ctsd623 Yes but these are 2 Judokas fighting in an MMA match while using their Judo background through out the fight. Aoki's Judo and Submission skills are well known in MMA but they didn't work here because he fought someone who was miles ahead of him in both Judo defense and MMA. Aoki couldn't take Sexy Yama down at all. Despite being older, Sexy Yama is the more seasoned fighter in both sports, especially Judo which Aoki is known for in MMA.

@@chienbanane3168 The hatred of Japanese fighters for Akiyama goes far back to the fact that Akiyama is ethnically Korean and after a fight in Korea, Akiyama said "Korean blood runs through my heart". Another is the beating Akiyama put on Sakuraba. They accused Akiyama of cheating (having oil on his body to prevent Sakuraba from grabbing) which was ridiculous because a Japanese referee checked his body on the way in to the ring before the fight and a referee checked again after the fight and said there was nothing wrong.

Strength, stamina and speed at age 46, impressive. Aoki got such beating at the end, the memory will haunt him for a long time.
the funny part about this fight is Akiyama actually passed out twice during the choke hold, he said he was about to tap out coz nobody would criticize him for easily tapping out at his age, but then he thought he want to lose in a cool way, that is by passing out. as he was about to pass out again the crowd were chanting his name which he said it was weird because it wakes him up.
One of the greatest victories I ever seen. Seriously Akiyama overcame great adversity!!! Wow! Super warrior level!!!

Not gonna lie I thought it was over for Akiyama after round 1. Wasn't sure how he was gonna survive another 2 rounds of that and I was worried the body triangle and carrying Aoki would drain his stamina. But man! Akiyama stood tough and once he started landing them punches??? Wow great fight, respect to both MMA veterans.
I think Aoki drained way more arm stamina, with all that cranking. His upper body was so full of blood and lactic acid at the end of round 2
I can’t believe I waited this long to see this fight. Aoki is a monster and Akiyama defended a RNC for over three minutes! That punch he landed on Aoki was so powerful. Awesome job Akiyama!

Aoki, one of the best grapplers in MMA history, was in panic as soon as couldn't get the TD. That being said, he was able to take a ton of punches before the stoppage. I'm surprised. I was expecting him to fold after the first big shot.
Not taking anything away from the fight, which was awesome, or Akiyama's win which was well earned, but we all know how round 1 one would have ended if that was a real fight.

I've been in triangles/RNCs where I gurgled and felt the life leave my body, but I survived. And there were much more plenty of others where I had to tap. I felt his pain during the strangle. You've got to be really motivated (and slightly lucky) to escape those deeper strangles like he did. Painful memories.
Tremendous fighting spirit from sexyyama. Those victory emotions are well earned, but what struck me most was how he was checking on his opponent and bow as to say "thank you for the match" is truly inspiring. It's like I'm watching one of Ippo's fight from Hajime no Ippo haha.
That was crazy!! Always great to see Akiyama win, great respect to both warriors

Yoshiro stayed on his feet for a long time in round one despite how effective Aoki appeared on his back and Yoshiro looked like he wasn't going to give his back up so easily in the second round and even though Aoki seemed to stay something of composed, Yoshiro's strikes just came plummeting down on two occasions at the end.
Aoki was woozy and not all there after the 1-2 that started everything. He wasn't even aware Sexyama was punching him in the face.
Wow... two of my favorite asian fighters go at it. With Akiyama coming out on top despite his age! I love these guys, I hope their careers continue to be successful.
Wow what a will! Akiyama is the true champion he was prepared for anything that his opponent compared to him but Aoki is super straight in this fight and also has awesome will for sure.

To me, Akiyama is not giving his 100%. if people who watch korean variety show know him, he may look tough, strong and fierce, but he have a gentle and humble character. After he got married and have a daughter, he became more gentle/ kind heart. You can see in his fight, his punch is not 100% force, its like he doesn't want to hurt the opponent badly. look at his body, i believe if he really give 100% all out, his punch will really really damage the opponent. For his age he is considered a monster, to fight like that against younger opponent, and still having that body muscle... mad respect!

I know Aoki is the 'villain', and I tend to agree that he's borderline sociopathic in the way he dishes out pain and injuries, but he took that beating like a champ. Akiyama was BLASTING him in the face, and Aoki didn't go out. He may be a prick, but his determination is admirable. Loved seeing Akiyama back in the cage AND he looked good. You can tell he trained hard for this. Watching legends fight is exciting, but it's very sad when an older fighter is slow and out of shape. Please don't put any old fighters in the cage unless they can still perform. Seeing them lose is okay, as long as they put up a good fight. Watching new champions destroy old legends is bad for the sport, but some organizations do it a lot. On the other hand, this fight was great matchmaking and very exciting! Thank you ONE for letting two legends shine!

Agree... I don't know why people still keep in mind that Aoki is a villain. I have a great respect for him. I know about the past, I don't follow his media neither I speak japanese so I don't know much about his personality . It seems to me that he is showing great sportsmanship lately, but I don't know, it's just the way it looks.

Did you know, back in Akiyama's K-1 days, he was the villain? Yea, His opponent accused him of cheating by putting on so much oil, it made him too slippery to get the TD, it happened against Sakuraba( The Gracie hunter), and Akiyama's victory got overturned. But to see him now, no cunning or trickery in his later years, just pounding away, and fighting off Aoki like that, makes many fans very impressed. We can come out of the shadows now and be true fans of Akiyama now; good for him and good for the sport.

man, being able to throw a knee on a downed opponent makes a big difference and I'm glad ONE has it. Such a powerful attack that's PERFECT in the situation here, considering there's only so much oomph you can do with bent-over shovel uppercuts.

After the match Akiyama said Aoki was slow than he thought, his team trainers were much faster and stronger. So on the first round Akiyama was tickled by Aoki and it was too slow and embarrassed. I like this fight so much, respect Akiyama's fight spirit and efforts.

If you watch an interview before this fight, Shinya Aoki said the grudge he has against Sexyama was just for entertainment purposes but he didn't tell Sexyama so Sexyama actually thinks the grudge is real.

Props to the ref for being diligent on the potential strikes to the back of the head. Yeah it can “break up the action” to a degree but fighter safety comes first, did his job well there imo.
