5 tips on staying warm from me, that have cold hands and feet no matter the season and live in a place where the common winter-temperature is about -10 to -20 degrees Celsius (and at least one day per year down to -30 degrees).
-Buy wintershoes that are one size bigger than your normal shoes so you can layer socks as well. If it's too thight, you wont stay warm. It is the air between each layer that keeps you warm, not the layers themselves! I usually wear a pair of normal socks (not the ones made of really thin and cheap fabric, but some that has a little more quality in them) and a pair of knitted wool socks in my shoes at winter. The soles in the shoes need to be good in order to keep away the cold from underneath your shoes. There exists (at least here) insertable soles that are "insulated" to keep the feet warm, to buy.
Where I live, we don't have on shoes inside, so it is not a problem that my feet would be too warm when I go inside.
-Most heat goes away from your body from hands, feet, bum and head, which means that these parts are the important ones. NEVER go out without something on your head and your hands if you want to stay warm, and have a jacket that it so long that it covers your bum even if you sit down.
I do not understand why every vlogger I see doing styling tips+ keeping warm never wear gloves and very seldom something on their head. There are so many beautiful gloves and hats/beanies that can give your outfit that little extra and at the same time keeping you warm. If these parts are properly covered, I feel like you don't need as much bulk on your torso as you otherwise would put on.
-As I mentioned earlier, it is the air between each layer that keeps you warm, not the layers themselves. To ensure that you stay warm, you must ensure that the air between each layer stays there. This means no gaps (e.g. bare ankles or a gap between the sleeve and the glove) where the cold air can come in underneath your clothes.
I ensure this in the baselayer by having the socks going over the thermal underwear on the ankles and having the underwear/baselayers overlap each other in the bum area. I always have a long sleeved shirt or jumper that covers my wrists OR (because I have really long arms and have difficulty finding clothes with long enough sleeves) wear knitted wrist-warmers on top of my clothes but under my outerwear, that is easy to take off when I come indoors. And a really good scarf (on top of a turtle neck if it's really cold) is essential to keeping out the cold air in the neck area.
-In the winter I usually wear 2-3 layers on my legs + a pair of "warmth-trousers" (I have no idea what that really is in English) if it's more important to stay warm than being stylish (which it always is when it's really cold) and 2-4 layers on my torso + a jacket of some sort.
Where I live, the difference between the temperature inside and outside is really big in the winter, which means that I need to have really effective outerwear or more then one layer of my outfit that I only wear outside, that I can take off when I go inside. So the outfits for me in the winter cosists of "clothes to wear inside" that is good for the inside temperature and also works as a base for the "clothes to wear outside". I have never seen someone on the internet that have made this difference in the outfit. I have only seen people that wiew the outfit as a whole.
-Wool. Is. The. Best. Thing. Ever. My thermal-wear is made out of wool and it is the most breathable and warm thermal-wear that I have used. And it's thin and soft also. Woolsocks keeps also the warmth so much better than sock made of syntetic fibres. The material that your clothes are made of can really make a difference.
About the knitwear being selfcleaning: what I know, it is garments made out of wool that is selfcleaning, not knitwear itself even if most knitwear are wool-based. (It's not the fibres being knitted insted of wowen that make it selfcleaning, it is the fibres itself.)

Totally can relate to the "clothes to wear inside" vs "clothes to wear outside." It gets -30 C in the winter where I live, and even -40 for a few days. At that point, we dress to be chic for our inside clothes, and then just pile clothes on for outside: sweatpants, patterned pajama pants, whatever fits over our clothes. Then we remove all of the outer layers once we get inside. It is something of a ritual when we get to work to remove our pajama pants without breaking conversation with our colleagues. And I always keep a wool wrap at my desk to add extra warmth inside.

Great tips and agree with the lack of tips on cold outdoor but warm indoor temperatures. Which is why sometimes I can't do thermal long underwear. Once inside I am roasting in them and you can't easily take them off. I've tried doing long socks and long coat, that keep me warm outside. Once inside if it gets too hot I can fold down the socks to help cool off a bit. For work, I try to keep some indoor shoes, so I can flick off the boots and have regular shoes indoors.

After moving to Finland I had to learn the crash course of layering. After 3 winters here I’m finally getting the hang of it! My go to is to wear tights/stockings under pants to keep legs and toes warm. For me, once my toes are cold it’s game over for my mood.
Really interested in the Organic Basics you mentioned. I already have a winter capsule tho and don’t actually “need” anything new! 😅 the struggles of living a balanced and conscious life!
Enjoyed all the new recording locations too 😍✨ Hope your week is going well ❤️

My feet, toes, make the same claim in my life - I have found that llama wool socks are awesome - expensive, but awesome - and Costco's wool blend trail socks. I buy boots a size larger to make room for extra socks and toe warmers!

Same here. Used to have cold toes all the time. Five years ago I discovered 100% cashmere socks and never looked back. A total game changer. I can now go for long winter walks and be outside for hours - and I'm in Canada. They were around US$10 and have lasted me for 5 years. Hope you find a way to keep your toes warm and toasty :)

I love wool in the rain! Wool gets warm in wet weather, and although it doesn't repel water, it doesn't seem to matter that it absorbs water. In fact, my favourite hat in the rain is my Brixton wide-brim felt fedora. I'm on the west (wet) coast (Pacific North America) and I wear wool year-round. But, I should say, I don't mind 100% wool garments. The Achilles Heel of wool is wind, in my opinion.

Great video! You’re always so thorough:). I live just outside the city of Chicago. It gets very cold and windy here, so layering is a MUST. I wear Marino wool underlayers from November through March. They make such a difference. One thing I wish I could wear is a hat. No matter what kind or how loose they are, they give me headaches. So, instead, I wear a blanket scarf since they are big enough to wrap around my head and neck.

Hey, I'm wearing that PT Nikita Sweater right now :) I also have sensitive skin so organic cotton or cashmere or merino wool are my friends. Love your layers for where I live. But most places in Canada (except the West Coast) you can't really wear shorter jeans with ankle boots and expect to stay warm. Long boots with excellent grips on the bottom, worn outside the jeans are your friend in -30 Celsius. Check out some of the Quebec companies. The combo of French style + cold weather savvy makes for some pretty good stuff, some of it made right here in Canada.

for me what helps is layering thights/leggings etc under jeans etc - also works great for my school that refuses to put the heating on and we have a uniform. also the long sleeves under t-shirt kinda helps- and a strange on for me but still is good is wearing a corset under clothes ( with something under the corset too- NEVER put corset in bare skin )

Love this! I live in Michigan, USA, where it is currently 25 F! We also get lots of snow and ice because our state is a set of peninsulas surrounded by giant lakes. I have a heavy vintage wool coat that I wear in this weather. I find that vintage wool is far warmer and thicker, so check your thrift stores!
I have a professional job and so have to dress for the office everyday and take public transport. I survive with lots of thinner layers and wear a blazer under my coat. This also looks super chic. If you want to wear some heels, check out wedges with tread, you can walk on the ice and in the snow with those without derfing it. Good luck, I’m looking forward to reading the comments! ❄️

Thank you for telling us about the sustainable brands you find and giving extra details about their products or ethos. I’ll be ordering from Organic Basics. Love your website too!
Off subject.. BTW: I recall that your Everlane loafers were not perfect for you, so I purchased the Modern Loafer a full size larger than my normal size. I’ve worn it three times and it is comfortable and the leather is flexible. I wondered if you resell items (I us Poshmark in the US) in which case, if your loafers are still not working out, you could sell them and try the larger size or change styles without wasting (except for the financial loss!). Best wishes.

It's a bit less cold here (Belgium) but it can still get pretty cold, it really freezes (-5 ° c) at least ten days a year. The rest of winter being somewhere between 7° c to - 3 ° c. And I am temperature-sensitive, So, all the layering is definitely helpful for me. But I have a very delicate frame and I quickly get very owerpowered by lots of clothes. More fabric than actual me, in a way I'm literally drowning in the billion jumpers I'm wearing.

Layering is definitely the way to go for me as well.
In Copenhagen I find that layering is essential. Interiors are so overheated that I usually just end up in a long sleeve t-shirt inside. In Paris I usually take off my coat while I'm in public transport for the same reason.
Would you have recommendations for European sustainable brands? Everlane seems nice in terms of design and values, but ordering from the US defeats the purpose in my opinion (both in terms of carbon footprint and tariffs).

But these outfits aren't for winter. They're for autumn. They don't keep you warm at all. Not for-20 degrees.

Загадочный Птеродактиль yes, she mentioned it at the beginning of the video: she is in Denmark, where it gets cold in winter but she knows there are places where it gets even colder...and later asked for tips for colder winters...It makes sense, average temperature in January in Denmark is -2C and 4C. You would need a bit more layering for the extreme cold winter and warmer boots 👢 and coats 🧥...

wool is naturally antimicrobial/antibacterial aka "self-cleaning" plus it wicks away moisture when you sweat (b/c it's extremely insulative)...

I love your style. I was so happy to find a sustainable youtube video with someone who has a style I like and can relate to. However, when I looked at your links to the sweater you are wearing and others I was quite sad as I discovered we definitely have different definitions of what 'sustainable' means. My definition and values are the same as youtube bloggers Daria Andronescu (wonder wardrobe) or Kate Arnell (Eco Boost). After watching the documentary 'The True Cost', I do not feel that any non-organic cotton is sustainable as it is a product of the very 'evil' corporation Monsanto. As well, several other sweaters (jumpers) you linked are 'blends' of natural and synthetic materials. I do not believe that synthetic materials are sustainable. I live in Canada and our beautiful natural resources and our animals habitats are being destroyed by the petroleum industry which is what these materials (ie. polyamide, nylon, etc.) are made from. Let alone that blends cannot be recycled nor will they ever breakdown (in our life times) let alone every time they are washed they release micro plastic particles into waterways and oceans. I highly recommend watching Daria's videos to learn about what is truly sustainable. Just because Everlane and other brands are taking steps towards more sustainable practices doesn't mean every item they make is sustainable. I was so thankful though to see a video about actual winter/cold weather wear that is practical. I am a little tired of bloggers wearing light little sweaters and summer dresses for their winter wear. Not everyone lives in a year round hot climate. Finally, this video gives practical and stylish ideas for real winter weather. So thank you so much for that. I would love to see even more ideas on winter clothing. Particularly for real snowy conditions. I am currently shopping for some sustainable, winter walking snow boots. I live in Canada so sometimes I need real winter clothes. And yet, like you , I find pure wool too hot especially when I go indoors. I also find even the softest merino wool too itchy for me. It is nice to hear how someone else deals with this issue. It is hard for me because I love the look of real wool but it just doesn't work well. And yet I don't really generally care for the look of cotton sweaters. It is hard to find the right thing. I like the look of the one you're wearing but I'll have to hold out until Everlane uses more organic cotton. Thank you for your video.
