Her confidence and his cautiousness make for a really reassuring little clip!

This would be more reassuring if I could see what it looked like in summer.

This would be much more helpful if it also included how to prune if you want it to be medium-sized. I want mine to be a tree, but not too tall.

I pruned mine like on the video at end of January, end of March and still no sign of shoots... hope it hasn't died.
Breaking news ... shoots starting to appear in April

I enjoy this plant so much more in it's tree form - I grow/prune mine similar to a crape myrtle tree.

Here, here! I agree. It's much more gorgeous in tree form just maintain it in a small tree form.

Do you have pictures of it growing back? Did you prune yours?

What fraction of a smokebush can you prune ? 1/3? 2/3? to the ground? Does it matter how tall it is when you start to prune it??

How big should the bush be before I start to coppice it? A certain trunk diameter? I cut a really large shrub with two trunks with bark down to 8”. It had no black dots indicating new growth. Now I got a new sapling about /2” diameter. When should I start coppicing?

I cut mine all the way back last summer. It is now March the following year and the tree is still bald. Not a single new growth. I'm getting worried.
