Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper will answer questions about the decision to fire head coach Frank Reich.
Updates: www.wfmynews2....
Heres a man whos never wrong, according to him. Hes truly annoyed having to answer questions. How dare anyone question him? The team is going to continue to lose as long as he manages the team.
I think a good first step would be for him to leave his Wife out of the process for making a decision on the next head coach
@@kyleutley7861 Does his wife have a reputation of meddling in the team's affairs, also? If so, that makes the current ownership even worse for the organization and the suffering fans.
@@superyt4ever Hell yes. She roams around the practices. Its a shitshow
@@dokedoker3340 Funny you mentioned Snyder, as I am a quasi-fan of the Commanders in DMV who laments how he also ruined the Commanders/Redskins, as soon as he bought the team, making the similar mistakes as Tapper had. We all know that Ron Rivera was picked up by Snyder to be his puppet HC, as soon as Tapper ditched Rivera. That's the connection with the Panthers that the Commanders could do without. Fortunately, the rumor has it that Rivera won't complete the final year left as the HC, after this year, if true, but it remains to be seen if the change in coaching staff would really put both teams in the right track, as long as the ownership remains the same.
@@rubberneck1971??? What is going on in Carolina man 💀
The panthers are screwed for years to come !!! 💀
I found it entertaining seeing a owner for once having to answer tough questions. They usually hide behind the GM and coach. His non answers and hubris was revealing the type of person he is. I would expect more of the same going forward.
He dodged every question. Didn't answer anything directly. A lot of nothing. Typical.
he'd make a fine politician, that's for sure
True, but at lease he cares. Would you want a owner like the Jets. How many years they just let the team go did not draft well. Or do his homework on good coaches.
Jets fan here. Yeah our organization is bad but they're not even close to being as bad as the panthers are. Both could definitely use new ownership though.
worst owner in the NFL now that Snyder is gone. He refuses to acknowledge HE IS THE PROBLEM.
Well Snyder was worse because he was a bad person and didn't treat his employees very well. With owner David Tepper he cares, and it was obvious that he had brought in the wrong coach for Bryce Young and he is making a change.
@@mandarinandthetenrings2201 How does firing coaches that he hired, in the middle of season, make him any nicer owner who treats his workers well?
@@superyt4ever Well, you do have a point however these are not workers. Because these men have contracts that guarantee them money and millions of dollars at that if they get fired you to say that David Tepper is pretty generous because he paying out a lot and I mean a lot of money for people that don't work for him anymore.
@@superyt4ever But also other owners love owners like David Tepper, Jimmy Haslem, and Michael Bidwill. I mean if your playing the Arizona Cardinals or the Carolina Panthers you know that most likely a win for you. Now Cleveland has turn thing around because of Paul DePodesta however will Jimmy continue to listen to him we will see.
Took zero accountability for anything
Well, he did admit that he takes full responsibility for the outcomes ultimately, but claimed that the decisions were solely the coaching staff's which he respected and accepted - kinda yes but no wiggling by the owner.
Well yes and no. It clear that he thinks he brough in the wrong coach for the team. And everyone is roasting him so there is that. But one thing you can say about David Tepper he doesn't care if you don't like him, he wants to win so he is making a change.
He should have stuck with Steve Wilks, that was his first mistake. I understand the theory about wanting to get a young franchise type of QB and building around him but the record speaks for itself. Steve Wilks had the respect of the core players and worked well with the players. Frank Reich was not hired with GM Duties so he's more of a "fall guy". Tepper is a brilliant Financier but he's not an NFL lifer or long term person. I wonder if he'll kick the Tires on Bill Bellichick?
Remember when Wilkes said "I'm going to do it my way"?
That's why he didn't hire Wilkes. Because Tepper knew Wilkes wasn't going to be a yes man and Wilkes wouldn't have put up with Tepper & his Wife telling him what players to sign and what scheme to run.
Anyone want to buy my PSLs? lololol
Bill wouldn't be a good look, because Bill (every coach) needs a good offense of line first. That owner doesn't know that yet.
Tepper inherited Ron Rivera, not sure how long he lasted but the previous run was pretty good, right? Then he tried the "hot" college guru in Matt Ruhle, maybe 2 full seasons? Reich was the "QB Whisperer" type of dude so I'm thinking now maybe he goes for an established guy. This is going to be interesting.@@armanitransport2604
No way bill goes to Charlotte. He'd rather go to the bears instead
Not keeping Wilkes was the bad decision. Also, trading up to get Young when you possibly would've got him anyway with your original pick was terrible. Bad organization.
This is revisionist history to think Bryce would have fallen all the way to 9th. Bryce was QB1 on a lot of big boards from evaluators I respect, let's just keep that in mind.
I say this as someone with no allegiance to this team, just don't want us to pretend like it was an insane move at the time to move up for Bryce
@@matthewarrojas5183 Bryce is a 5'9 QB... short-skinny QBs dont work.. (yes. there are exceptions to rule, Wilson is bigger and slightly taller)
@macanthony1982 I'm not saying it was the right pick (I don't know either way) I'm just saying that there was no chance he lasts until pick 9
Bryce Young would not have been there at 9. He was going 1 or 2. Most likely 1. Just because C.J. looks great doesn't mean anyone was gonna take him over Bryce
@@bryancampbell9655please to where 5'9 skinny qbs workout??
He wildly missed on the Bryce Young vs C.J. Stroud pick, and now he is having to answer questions. It wasn't hard, for those of us that watch the game, that Young was a bust waiting to happen. You can't have a QB come in at 178-184, at 5'9.5", with a below average NFL arm, and expect him to perform at an elite level. Size in the NFL matters, and the tiny first round pick is going to set this franchise back for the next 3-5yrs.
Rich guys who like the game, thinking they understand the game. How tall is Tepper? The fanbase might be suffering because of short-man syndrome, as the little guy knows all!
hindsight bias .
It's funny because Bryce is actually average height exactly, but it is tiny AF for an NFL QB. I'm that height and have been around pro players. Makes me feel small lol. He's skinny too, as you said. At least Kyler and Russ have some bulk to them. He has to be so spot-on to offset that.
@@brooksorlando4881 Young's timing with his receivers has to be picture perfect every time he throws the ball. He is very similar to Joe Montana in terms of size [slightly smaller, but at least it is close], and he has less of an O-Line. That is a horrible combination for the NFL. I feel for the kid really, because it wasn't his fault he was touted as a top prospect. The media, the "scouts", and much of the NFL brass all saw him as a top 10 pick. They were wrong and he is suffering the ills of their incorrect decision making.
He doesn't gaf about this organization the way he answered his second question 😂
He is more interested in being woke and oushing it down the fan's throats than he does about winning. From bringing in players who kneel for the national anthem to having a transgender cheerleader while at the same time dsmantling the team.
What a statement; Nobody ever leaves him!
HMM
I was always impressed with Tepper’s body of work in the investment world. However his track record in the NFL makes me wonder. The jury is out.
Had CJ Stroud struggled this year Frank would still be employed. Teppers patience was limited to how Houston handled a worse situation.
He has too much money and no football experience
Wow. As a Washington fan, I'm so glad we have a normal ownership group now.
Facts! 👍🏿
That owner is terrible and you can't help your team by not giving them a chance. That owner does not have no damn patience and he's a joke. But hey Let's Go Steelers ✊🏾
No he cares he may not be a good football operations, but at lease cares about winning.
He came from y'all
Tepper is the new Dan Snyder. It's gonna be a long 30 years in the basement
I knew once they got Jerry richardson out as owner... And this guy came.. i knew were the panthers never gonna be the same again.. been following since 1996
No reporter asked if there was any thought to sitting Bryce (not to demote him but just to protect him after the beating he has taken while we try to solve the o-line)??????????????
The o line is atrocious. They give Bryce no time or protection
Panther fan here scott and tepper the problem cant scout talent and tepper cant admit his wrong and is to involved in this team tepper is indeed the issue one of the many
I am not going to get into that, blah blah blah.
he would be a helluva dodgeball player with all those questions hes avoiding.
Picked the wrong QB. This is just the fallout
Thanks for letting us all know you don't know football. lol. wow
He is mad rich but a little man in all ways I am sure.
No personal accountability. Panthers are in trouble until his “look in the mirror” moment.
1st question should have been who's damn idea was it to pick Bryce?
I believe it was unanimous is what you say when you know it was not unanimous. Also, completely confident with BY pick yet they are about to fire everyone that made that pick.
HE. DOESN'T. GET. IT. I would run as fast as I could away from this organization as long as he is the owner.
He won't answer any questions forthrightly
Tepper assumes he knows everything, and in the case of running an organization, he knows nothing
The wrong guy bought our franchise. It’s sad. We should have Reddick and Burns on the ends, Brown and Jalen Carter in the middle, Howell and McCaffrey in the backfield, and Devante Smith at WR. That’s if I was hired as the GM 4 years ago. It’s not that hard.
I feel for you panther fans. You guys should rise up and not buy merch or tickets to the games. Hurt his pockets and he’ll change his ways.
Not possible when over 80% of the tickets are already sold every year to the people who shelled out for PSL's. If you have a PSL and don't buy the season tix, you lose the PSl.
Or that will give him the metrics he needs to move the franchise to England.
Tapper's alibis and evasions to the reporters' pointed questions would've sounded more plausible and tolerable, if not acceptable, if only had he not been the Panthers' owner since 2018 with the track record he has as the team's short-tempered, impatient, meddlesome owner. Makes one wonder how he became a billionaire, as well.
He sounds like Bruce Allen
"Winning off the field "
At least he had a press conference. Mr Richardson would never had done this. I give him credit for meeting the press.
And jerry wouldn't have fired four coaches in five years
Anyone else notice Tepper mis-pronouncing Frank's last name?
I would be willing to bet my life that we would've done better the past 4 years with Rivera and Cam still here
I am a lions fan, I felt like the owner made a huge mistake by letting Steve wilks go. I knew that the Frank Reich ordeal was not going to work out since he got fired with the colts, but I didn't know it was going to be this soon.
@TLowCTI they saw the job Wilks did as patching together a group in a time of need and that with an installed system (and an off season) things would get right….
This is the ownership that just unloaded Dj Moore AND CMc then expected positive results out of the gate
The players should refuse to take field as long as tepper the owner.
It was the hedge fund genius who wanted Young, not Stroud, so Tepper should fire himself.
stoud would've looked exactly like young in this same scenario.
It zero sense to select a 5'10 QB over a 6'3" QB. In pro sports, each player has to have a special characteristic. Size and speed make a difference.
On personnel decisions, he votes on the "last piece?"
" I am patient". Says the man who has been through 7 coaches since 2018 counting interim coaches. I am calling BS.
This guy is Dan Snyder 2.0
14:14 when he said "you" he meant The Press which personally I think it was a mistake to give journalists the permission to speculate because journalists are already notorious for speculating and frankly just making things up.
I would've loved to see Wilkes as the head coach. But now I think Tepper wanted someone completely different than Frank but they turned him down or they just wanted to stay where they were at for another year or two. So he settled for Frank. Now if he chose Wilkes and things went bad and he let him go after the first year or even worse during the season then what would Tepper "also" be? People would definitely call him "racist" for sure! People tried poking at that idea when he didn't hire Wilkes. So if he had and then turned around and fired him Tepper would have a bigger mess than what he has now. We all know that this record is all Franks fault. I'm sure there would be a few different people on the team but I don't think Wilkes would have messed with the o line so our QB would still be hitting the dirt on a weekly basis! Tepper may be making dumb decisions but the man isn't dumb. Frank was a stop gap that may have worked but didn't and I think Tepper thought the same thing about Wilkes.
One thing I will say that David Tepper cares about winning. He not just sitting back, but it was very clear that wanted an offensive that has some RPO's and some the innovations you seeing in the run game from Kyle Shanahan and his coaching tree. But Frank's offensive isn't like that at all. He taking responsibility of bring in the wrong coach for Bryce Young.
One thing I like about tepper is that he is bringing revenue to Charlotte. This man is making money moves. Now if he would just let the sports team handle themselves and change the field back to grass, everything would be gucci. But idk, he did say he only has 30 years left. That’s probably why he’s so impatient now.
I’ll be 61 God my grandchildren will never go to a game in Charlotte when they play these Panther bums. As an Eagles fan I just can’t wait to beat them every year as long as this dope is the owner. 😂😂😂😂
@@lionheart4529 at then end of the day, he will always have ticket sales. But they will be fans of the other team lol. Eagles fan run deep here at the panther games. My friend fought some back in 2016. Yall rowdy
This is a typical prideful impatient billionaire who only cares about winning. He fired 3 coaches in 5 years because of his stupid impatience.
Is this guy the owners buddy?? How does he keep his job when different staffs come in 😂😂
We need to get belichek from New England
Don’t care about concerts the conference was about football. I really don’t like Tepper, I grew up in the charlotte area. I have been a panther fan forever it’s so sad to see the franchise like this. I will say i did love how he stood up for Bryce Young. Other than that I’m not proud of Teppers production.
If he wants a coach around for 20 years, it would probably behoove him to not hire one who was already over 60 years old.
Greg Olsen is interested in the coaching job I would love to see that maybe Luke would come to that would be my dream that would bring culture back to Charlotte
Im not giving Tepper a pass but everyone thinks he’s the one that chose Bryce. Frank Reich was pounding the table for Bryce but nobody talks about that
Why has scott fitterer not been fired? Our roster is a joke, drafting is a joke, worst roster in the league. How can any qb rb or wr thrive in these situations?
Yankees are a problem!!! Get rid of Tepper ASAP and I’m not even a fan of the Panthers but they do need a owner that cares!
I think the Panthers had a great replacement at the end of last year and the owner did not give Steve Wilkes a chance this year, so you got what you got out of you Frank and that was nothing. This is for the owner find Steve Wilkes and give them a chance if your pride is not to high. This is a fan from day one. 😢
Get Young some help.
All I see is that guy from the Princess Bride explaining why he knows to choose the drink you didn't choose because...
Nothing but lies, no accountability, you need a nfl consultant, you aren't running the ship right, you're also running the franchise the wrong way
First, tepper take accountability for your decision making... no excuses!! All the coaches you mentioned did make contributions but not good contributions. You should have kept Mr. Wilkes, but he wasn't the pick you want as a head coach of the Panthers. Hire people to make football decisions/coaching etc. All you need to focus on is signing checks!! Period!!
If he is a patient man I would hate to see what an impatient Tepper is like
worst owner in sports
No accountability at all. We aren't going to be successful as long as he keeps deflecting.
When a team is bad it first takes good management to make sure things are stable and put good people are in place to manage day to operations. It obvious this organization is in disarray and it starts with the owner. Even during the interview is condensing and does not answer questions about himself and his organization, but the blame is on the coach.
That coach doesn’t deserve to be fired like seriously let him finish the season it’s only his first year
Andy Dalton needed to play a lot more. Dalton would have won at least 5 games
Nothing unusual here. Tepper given his background is a man of action. He assess things arrives at a decision and acts. He is not afraid to decide. If he makes an error he reviews it decides on a course of action then executes. He is going to make more money. He pays people well but his expectations are a high bar. If you watched Franks presser after the Titans game he knew it was over.
Ummm this sounds like an endorsement of one of the worst owners in professional sports.
@@Rychek22 he is the wealthiest owner in the NFL. He runs a hedge fund. They make and lose millions in a day in a transaction. Nobody complains about the pay ? The team is in a bad place, he acted. When you are going to take a loss take it as quickly as possible. That is what he did.
This team is bad. It was Not going to win in 2023. They drafted the wrong QB after giving up draft assets to get the 1st pick. Then he fires the coach like he expected his performance to be better?? This owner shows zero accountability, and is bad for the team and the NFL overall.@@thepimpernel6971
He is literally contradicting his own account of the trade when he claims to be patient. Per his own account, he was extremely impatient and in the GM's office every hour asking when the trade will get done. He is just saying what he thinks people want to hear and it's painfully obvious he's not being truthful.
As a business owner one hires someone to do a job because they are qualified to lead and do the job. If you micromanage every move and decision they can't do the job and be successful. Get out of the way and let the football guys in the room do their job. Maybe they can turn this disaster around.
Having dealt with this in DC. Who does Tepper think that he is going to get to do this job? He is Daniel Snyder 2.0! Panther fans you have a hot mess on your hands
Worst owner ever in nfl history
At least I'll give Tepper credit for answering questions as often in all sports owners try to hide from being questioned. That said, Tepper's made so many bad decisions. Same old story of owners meddling where they have no expertise. Trade away draft choices and players and get poor results. At least Jerry Jones allowed Jimmy Johnson with the Cowboys to go 1-15 in his first year and same with the Ford Family in Detroit allowing Dan Campbell to go 3-13-1 in his first year.
Yup. We should have never got rid of Wilkes
RED FLAG!!! He is comparing soccer (a wholly players game) to the NFL. This is great. This circus is going to be here a LOOOOOOOOOONG time.
Tepper, you're on the clock ⏱️
Whatchu gonna do 🤔
Last thing we need is another big coaching contract.
Yeah but no winning coach will take a baby contract. Bryce needs an offensive minded HC to lead him. And there’s a lot now who want big money.
My god Tepper, We all know what the nfl is now. Hire Cam Newton as interim Offensive coordinator.
Hire me as whatever Scott fitter does. We should create a story. I love stories and so does the nfl.
I've done trades on Madden forever, I'm legit. I'd never have sold our roster for any qb in that draft. lol.. I know you want see this but I'd be better than what you have.
Nooo😂
Worst owner ever in NFL history
The news conference was worthless! Just under 26 minutes of ownerspeak.
Who cares about events… We want to win games! Which in turn will bring the community together and make you more money.
David tep get rid of that 4/3 mess
What an absolute joke. Said absolutely nothing
Pittsburgh must be glad this guy never became the majority owner of the Steelers
Boo Boo 👎, his turned our organization into a laughing stock…
Horrible questions. How about why are you not throwing to Thielen? He’s one of the best receivers in the league and you don’t throw to him? Why isn’t Young rolling out and using his dual threat possibilities like the Eagles do with Hurts?
we're in for a long couple of years
Patience Panthers fans patience
What a dope. Thank goodness Danny boy is out to sea , and I can return to the commanders . Feel sorry for my fellow Carolinians though
They better get a o-line if they got winning in their future
Let your wallet do the talks, that's only way the owner listen to their fans.
Tepper is a terrible owner and will never put his ego in check.
Put Andy Dalton in. Let Bryce watch him
HOW IS THE MEDIA ACTING LIKE THIS DECISION IS A BAD ONE
THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENDED SOONER
Steve Wilks is the guy to try
Or go get Greg Olsen
If Riech was such a poor choice, why did he hire him in the first place? The man doesn't know dick about running a football organization. Another Daniel Snyder, just taller and more arrogant.
cliff notes: "I preach patience, but if you draft bryce young over cj stroud you get fired quickly"
Ok guys let’s not blame tepper. There’s clearly a lot going on in his head head ass😂😂😂
Ain't nobody else out there. The Steelers already looked. 🤷
Young is 5 10. What percent of pro bowl QBs are 5 10???
Hey everybody...Meet the new Dan Synder...This guy has the capital "L" hanging over his forehead...
This is what you Get for playing with Wilks
This team has no identity.
Pittsburgh Steelers been around since 1933.
In that time, they have only had 3 head coaches.
That right there tells you something. He needs to get on a plane and hang around the Pittsburgh. Steelers organization for the remainder of the year.
