Other than the scene with Ruby and her mother and the cop scene at the end, this movie made no sense to me. Being on the spectrum myself, I did not think that the movie writers or most of the characters in the movie (besides Ruby and her mother) completely knew how to handle the son. The writers are still representing autism as a stereotype and in 2024, hollywood still does not get it with how to represent Autism. I did like some of the actors however.
The writer has a son who has autism and wrote this movie with his own personal experiences. Just different people have experiences that are different
@@ALTEXTV Then why are all representations the same stereotype? Giving the writer a pass is not helpful.
Because they haven’t dived into the others or experienced what others have. The writer has a son who is autistic, I’m not giving him a pass just because, he wrote it based on his own experiences
@@ALTEXTV No, but this movie might as well have been Rainman because it was a very similar low to middle functioning stereotype of Autism. It is a spectrum. Not every movie should represent it the same way. Agree to disagree!
I agree they should dive into more experiences outside the ones they have done so far. That I agree with
Just saw this last night, I was very pleasantly surprised.
Shocked me too at how good it was. Full of heart, funny and has great themes
Really good movie! Reminded me a little bit of the movie rain man!
Rain Man was terrible for Autism representation as well personally.
