I am curious if these trucks are in running condition? Why are the headlights etc removed from the front of the trucks? Can these be repurposed for smaller departments. Really enjoyed the video. First time viewer so that's reason for so many questions lol. Sorry but just curious in Central Florida
First off, glad you enjoyed the video! and welcome to my channel :) I should've explained things like this when I filmed the video. The three Former FDNY Tower Ladders in the video were purchased by Seagrave at FDNY's Auction when they sell off older things such as fire apparatus. When sold at auction, the FDNY as explained in the video paints over and covers up all department decals, they remove all emergency lighting and take off any parts they need so that they could use them to replace or repair any identical model and age trucks still with the department. With that said, the purpose Seagrave Purchased these was originally to refurbish them at a cheaper price with all up to date NFPA etc codes for departments to use for frontline use. They were successful in doing this with numerous former FDNY Seagraves that were also bought. (Mount Mourne Volunteer Fire Department, NC & Blackburg VFD) two of which purchased former FDNY Tower ladders redone by Seagrave. To answer your first question of: "if these trucks are in running condition?" - no they are not. If you look at time stamp 0:20 and look closely at the front bumper of the center tower ladder written in marker it says "DOES NOT START, NO STEERING" this is usually the case for a majority at auction by the FDNY. Although from time to time some apparatus still run and drive with simple fixes like battery replacements. To answer your second question, Why are the headlights etc removed from the front of the trucks? - The FDNY mechanics or Seagrave themselves may have removed them as needed for parts. Those Tower Ladders have sat in that yard for years, I don't think these, in particular, are worthy of repurposing in the condition they are currently in. With that said, I think at this point they are just trucks used to pick parts from. Earlier in 2021 the yard had far more former FDNY units that were in my first video (Link in description). They have since been sent to scrap and I have no doubt these will be headed there soon as well.
To expound upon what FDNYRigs said, the "business end" of these trucks, the Aerialscope boom, never really wears out. These trucks will be taken back to Clintonville, WI and be lovingly restored probably with a completely new powertrain and cab.
To see a Seagrave in this condition is sad and cool at the same time because a lot of other brands would've died from the abuse these trucks went through long ago.
RETIRED FROM FDNY, LAST CALL WAS 9/11......I remember so many RIGS AROUND GROUND ZERO WERE DESIMATED. ..LT. CHRIS SULLIVAN L111 PASSED.....MAY ALL THE BROTHERS R.I.P.
So sad seeing these trucks going away. Sigh. They had a good run back in 9/11. Good video. Can't wait to see more updates in the future
Crazy, I use to drive an ‘01 Seagrave 75’ Areialscope in Virginia. It was a work horse that was nice to drive… Thanks for the video, and reminding me of my age, LOL!
Wow, they don’t make ‘em like they use to. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@Fdnyrigs what is the address of the fdny grave yard for fire trucks im interested
What part of Virginia
The North Brunswick Fire Company 2 ladder was taken out of service due to a 5 day warehouse fire. The ladder was stuck in the air, they had to manually get it down. Truck was not repairable. Truck served North Brunswick from 1992-2015.
Interesting, thank you for sharing this information !
@Retard Railroading it got stuck because when it was at the warehouse fire chemicals inside the building damage the structure of the ladder and wiring of the truck
5 old FDNY ladders are serving in 2 Alabama and 3 are in Kentucky now
Wow! Do you by any chance know which departments have them?
@@Fdnyrigs not off hand saw them on FirefighterNation
Thanks for another terrific video! Stay safe and stay healthy!
Thank you!, and same to you!
awesome video about all the fdny fire trucks
Love your eye for detail and explaining where they came from
Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed.
Awesome video! Always sad to see these apparatuses retire after being in service for so long.
Excellent video and production work ... I think that 111 truck there was burned in a fire in Brooklyn.
Thank you! Ladder 111’s New rig that replaced the 02 had its entire officers side burnt in 2015 at a 2nd alarm in Brooklyn.
Gonna miss the classic rigs
Love and miss the old rigs
It’s rough seeing these rigs in this condition because they were the replacement truck’s for the one’s destroyed on 9/11. What I wonder is why they weren’t refurbished and transferred to the reserve fleet.
Im sure NY has the funds. These trucks will have a 2nd life in another department. Im sure of it. 343
Ahh that’s sad. those old trucks where nice. But on the bright side those new seagraves look good!
Shame to see them all just sitting there as spare part kits. Great video coverage!
Yea unfortunate, Thanks.
Awesome vid!! Love the content!!
Thanks!
Hello my name is Kregg from Phoenix. Your channel just popped up out of nowhere and in a way I'm sure glad it did because I've been interested in fire trucks since I was five. I am much much older now but yet I still jump up when a fire truck goes by. It drives my brother nuts. We have a friend who just retired from the fire department. He worked on the computers on the engines. I know where all the stations are located that are around me. So anyway I just came across this video of you showing the old engines which is pretty cool because actually our friend who just retired sent me a picture of pretty much the same thing you're showing it's a lot with a bunch of old engines and then another lot across the street has got the brand new engines that will be going into service all through Phoenix. Looking forward to checking more out on your channel.
111 truck is my favorite rig
Good video, but I feel sad for this trucks.
Rumors say that 79 Truck’s ex 2004 Seagrave TL was the old 84 Truck before it was replaced completely by a 100 foot rear mount ariel ladder, also you have the old Ladder 176 that served as Reserve Ladder 701 ladder on after 9/11
Amazing video this came up in UA-cam suggestions!!!
Glad you enjoyed :)
Great video ,I want them all.
That’s my tower ladder! 111
Great video and I'm being honest for a kid my favorite fire truck are tower ladders
Hermosos camiones de bomberos!!! deberian de restauralos y darles nueva vida y donarlos a paises necesitados de estos camiones. Saludos.
Jeez if I had the space and money I'd gladly buy a retired FDNY rig and have it in a collection!
Same, I was lucky enough to save two pieces and restore from the 1991 & 1989 Seagrave Rearmounts in that yard from my first video that have since been sent to the scrapyard.
So you worked on 2 former FDNY trucks?
@@jimmyk8736 No, I contacted the scrapyard and got two identification pieces originally found on FDNY Apparatus that say SL89... Found on the front and rear of every rearmount the fdny has. They were covered over in black paint covered up by the FDNY when auctioned off which I removed and restored to their original condition prior to disposal.
Ohh nice!!! That is a pretty cool keepsake.
Denver Fire Department in Lincoln County, North Carolina has a former FDNY tower Ladder
Good looking tower like the style fdny keep them safe out there take care best wishes to everyone. Joe
RIP To the old trucks
Great video thanks for your services lady's and gentlemen. Let's go Brandon
Very interesting to see, my BIL works at the nuthouse currently on engine 214 but I got a chance to check out the current 111 truck a month ago. Just curious where is this yard? I’ve been to the FDNY shops in Long Island city and didn’t see this yard but I just did a quick walk around the block. Awesome videos, thanks for all the info provided.

What happened to the rearmount trucks? Were they scrapped or sold to other departments
Why do they slap paint over the stripes? Surely nobody would think they are actually operational.
Check the pinned comment at the top of the comment section, I answer that and a few other questions in response to someone who asked similar questions to yours.
@@Fdnyrigs I get why they paint over the FDNY badges, just confused about why the stripes. Is the pattern unique to NY?
@@the_once-and-future_king. they remove anything and everything that make it associated with the FDNY.
How long does the FDNY keep fire trucks in service for? I drive a city bus, they are in service for 12 years.
Thats sad to see them go
What happened to your first video of FDNY graveyard retired Seagraves ?
old ladder truck 2000-2022!
This is at seagrave nj right? Off exit...8ish on the turnpike area?
Yes this is Seagraves place in NJ
How could you tell the year of the trucks?
All sorts of different factors, there’s some indications on windshields, like in the video the old “79” still invisible.
Yea that's north Brunswick company 2 old truck my friend belong to that company
Of course they run . The part ' s are used for other vehicles ' s . They are sold at I A A I under DCAS .
Hey could you tell me we’re this location is?
Interesting video
Thank you.

Didn't FDNY stop selling them after a terrorist scare involving terrorists converting old FDNY apparatus into giant truck bombs? I remember in 2005 a bulletin going out nationwide about securing vehicles on scenes due to this threat.
The idea was the terrorists would trigger an incident and during the confusion a bomb laden pumper enter the scene and detonate.
I visited The Rock in 2006 and they were cutting up engines for extrication practice. The firefighter giving me a tour said the days of ex-FDNY equipment hitting the open market were over after that terrorism warning.
They still auction and sell them, anyone can get there hands on a former Fdny unit. Many have restored former Fdny units purchased at auction.
@@Fdnyrigs They must have changed the policy after 2006. We were told they weren't for sale at that time.
🤷♂️
Where is this graveyard at?
Sad
These trucks once saved lives
I understand covering the logos, but painting the white stripe? That seems excessive
They cover up anything and everything that associates the truck with the FDNY. I believe it’s because they don’t want someone buying a former Fdny truck and attempting to impersonate them & or for security reasons after 9/11.
Could've sent them to smaller departments. So sad to see them sit for rot.
If only these trucks could talk
All those fire trucks and other vehicles should be restored and put in museums not just in new york but all over the country especially police vehicles
Gee whatever happened to the FDNY using their rigs till they basically fall apart.
Where’s all the rest of the retired ladders? Torn down for scrap?
The rest that were in the original first video I made have since been sent to scrapyards.
Is this in Queens? I know there’s an old bone yard in Bronx Randals Island
No, this is located at Seagrave in New Jersey. This lot is not FDNY Owned. There is a yard the shops use in queens which is what you are probably referring to. They store old spares as well as units that are awaiting being worked on or auctioned off.
why is the NJ truck in NY?
This is not a FDNY Owned yard. This is a Seagrave location meaning other departments Seagraves could be there. It is not exclusive to FDNY.
@@Fdnyrigs ok
@@Fdnyrigs what and where is this seagrave area
The one in the middle is 111 and the other one is 18 and I know you know which one is 79
The description of the video I list out each and every unit shown in the video.
They could have gave them to a department that doesn’t have enough money for new trucks
Why NYC doesn't donate this good trucks to poor countries FD ?. So sad.
It would simply not be worth it. 1. These trucks served the FDNY. A 12 year life span being frontline alone is equivalent to decades worth of use by any other small department. On top of this, they were used as spares for a couple years after that. At the condition they are currently in, it’s not worthy of repairing to give to another department. Probably better to buy a used working truck then one beaten down by the FDNY.
@@Fdnyrigs your so right.
It’s tax payer money. Why does everyone think NYC/USA has a bottomless pit of money?
@@tjinytjiny6615 I'm in a country , where a good part of the population thinks that we have a , moral and legal , obligation to look after poor nations , when we can't or won't address our homeless problem , looking after the elderly , etc ..

Where did the other trucks go. ?
They got scrapped.
I know I pass my One Car Jumk Lot at time, and there is a Yellow Truck there. Never stopped too ask about it thjough. I know some of the S,aller, Volunteer, departments have the Old trucks from other Departments when they got a New One. Most, they donated too
