I think it is flutter tongueing or just really fast tongueing and then just making the tone weird. He could be growling a little or just playing a little blatty on purpose. Rashawn ross does it a bit in some of his solos. I've never heard a term for it but if you find one plz update me.
@@calebr6840 yeah I've been trying to understand what it is. It sound more like very fast double tounging, but I don't think anyone can be that fast. Maybe it is slow flutter tounging. I also heard it is flutter tounging high note. So tbh idk
I heard of Sean Jones and I wanted to check him out but the other two trumpeters did as well or perhaps better than him in term of tone clarity for sure.
the style determines the music made. here they are playing in front of a big crowd, it's gonna turn into a "battle" of sorts. all these guys can play lyrical af, this moment just wasn't calling for that.
That's the art of playing jazz. You play what you feel amd what the music calls for. Don't wanna be playing lyrical in this part of the song it's a time to show what u can do and how much control you have.
All 3 of these guys are certified badasses...but Sean M'F'n Jones is the undefeated heavyweight champ of the world!!!
BbjazzIII: I’m a Parker fan, but I have to agree... Mr. Jones is a beast!
Man when your hear Sean he has more control on playing through the changes. Great job on all soloist though. Very entertaining. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
The old Al Hirt tune, Sugar Lips. They all wail, but Sean Jones, man...
I believe this called Java
I saw Ashlin battle Irvin Mayfield at UNO back in like 2007-2009 era, Ashlin actually piped him!
Gentle reminder that this is why Jesus uses a trumpet to herald His return. #Warriors #Gladiators
Grandissimi
sean jones beast.
This is not a battle, they are not competing with one another, they are each taking about 8 bars (measures) or so.
Are you a trumpet player ? 🤣 Everytime trumpet players are on stage it is a battle
Can somene tell me what the technique at 2:06 is called. And if you know explain it. Plzzzzz

Spiccato or whatever you want to call it. Not flutter tongue but similar. Flutter uses a narrower portion of the tongue (less tongue).
Flutter tounging, just in the upper register. Here's some random ass video i found about how to do it. ua-cam.com/video/49OJO6wa1K0/v-deo.html
SEAN JONESあのガタイで吹き込んでるのに、如何に所謂普通の楽器、普通のセッティングが力をロスしているかがよくわかるな。確かにLOTUSというかTAYLORの理論すごいな
I dont know who is who but the guy on the left won IMHO.

damn o_O
They should listen to some more Bobby Shew
If I could play like this, I wouldn’t play like this. I prefer a more lyrical style. Each to their own I suppose.
