I just think she used mlm hun math and not girl math. The girl math thing is just a joke so it doesn’t bother me but the mlm hun definitely used it wrong lol
The "Girl Math" thing is not supposed to be used in serious stuff. I've always seen it as a joke we girlies make about expenses ("When I pay my hair girl a deposit of 50%, then it's 50% cheaper on the day...") or schedulling ("if I havr to leave at X then I have to do this by Y, etc). I've seen "Geek Math", "Artists Math" and othrr Math terms. But as soon as someone applies the joke to real life expenses than it looses the joke and it should be thrown out the window. What she says is not "Girl Math" it "Hun Math" and thats not cool...

Yeah, it's about maximizing coupons/discounts and "it's free if the number in my bank account stays the same" Aka treating yourself to things outside of your budget with spare cash laying around or with gift cards or cash back rewards rather than having to use the money in your account that is budgeted elsewhere

Learning just in the last 2-3 years that this is exactly what they do. But those are for another time. FF a few years, I'm in nursing school and all of a sudden got obsessed with makeup ect and my friend was a mona rep and said they had really great skincare products. So we signed up for this discounted shipment where you could pick your own products monthly and OMG. After a couple months we were getting overwhelmed cause bills were adding up, so was product, and ADHD makes it hard to stay on top of this shit. Anyways we got to try and end the subscription, that I'm pretty sure we were being overcharged for and they wanted us to buy out some contract!!! Which came as a TOTAL surprise to us. idk what happened, where what went wrong. BUT we got sucked into some contract that we had to buy ourselves out of OR continue to pay a monthly fee for products. The Vitamin C serum, I like it, but I'm sure there is nothing special about it and it is so over priced. HOWEVER I also somehow had this shine spray on me. I threw it out and it was almost entirely full. The chemical smell that came off of that thing was just TOO much. I couldn't do it. I couldn't justify putting it in my hair or anyone's hair with the way it smelt. And too many claims of hair loss or damage. Like nope. I was naive. Blind to the influence people had on me for literally no reason. And no really understanding what goes on behind closed doors. All this to say. Don't stop talking about this. This is so freaking important. Times ARE changing, its a slow ripple but its movement none the less! Thank you for covering these doorknobs
Your example of girl math feels more like neurodivergent timekeeping to me. I mean that with love because I do the same. To me girl math is more like prepaid expenses
That’s how I figure out my schedule too (and found out I have ADHD last year) kind of similar to my family’s reaction to how I figure out when an old family picture was taken, “Well, I have short hair in this one and missing two baby teeth, dad has a mustache, mom has a perm, older brother still is wearing glasses so this must have been 1988.” I thought it made perfect sense, but the looks I get….😂
I do not like the term ‘girl math’. To me it implies that no logic is involved. Also, as a girl whose academic trauma was associated with math struggles, it stings a little.
This is so real. In a strange turn of events I've ended up working in education policy (so not my training, but so rewarding), and the extent to which we're working against legit intergenerational trauma within math instruction is just massive and sometimes overwhelming. We collectively needed - BEFORE the term "girl math" (vomit) got invented - to fundamentally change how we talk to ourselves about math, and how we talk to our kids about math, especially our daughters. Part way through elementary school they already have a preconception of whether they've "got math" or were born a math muggle, Harry Potter magic style. It may be easier for some than others, but no one is just born with zero ability to comprehend relationships between abstracts of varying sizes.

One of the things that people often forget about having a regular job is that your employer pays half of your Payroll tax. If you work in one of these MLM cults, whatever you end up paying yourself as a salary gets about 15% hacked off on top of that before anything else due to having to pay the entirety of the payroll tax yourself. I know this amount is capped but most MLM people will never reach the cap.
I would love to see you cover "abundance circles" if you are aware of them.. it's like a micro unofficial MLM thing a lot of new age ppl do where you basically buy into a support group and there is a shifting each cycle that puts one person in the middle where they get everyone's money. Like an amoebic ponzi scheme. I've been invited to several I might be able to get you some inside info...
I worked my sales job from home during the pandemic with 2 small kids just for a few months and I couldn’t wait to get myself back in the office. It’s a nightmare.
19:44 Not even gunna lie, I watched this part an ABSURD amount of times!!! 🤦🏻♀️😂😂 Idk why but your reaction to it is funny as hell to me and took me all the way out!!!! 😂😂😂😂
I've always felt the same about the whole "girl math" thing. From my perspective, it pushes the narrative that women aren't good with numbers or even that we're just not that smart. Fuck outta here with that bullshit is what I say to that lol Also, the fact that she said "it's tax season and everyone is getting money" tells me everything I need to know about the audience she's targeting. My husband and I haven't received a refund since we crossed a certain income threshold years ago. In fact, we always end up owing even though we already pay out the fucking ass (don't get me started on that soapbox lol)
The fake urgency is so manipulative. I know someone who spent all of her tax return on LipSense, bought a huge decal for her car, spent all her time on Facebook (while at work) trying to sell, and eventually lost her job and all of course all the money put into the MLM. She is a single mom of 4.
My friends and i always joke about girl math in the way of "well if you spend the extra money and get it now, later you lll save money because you already have it. Youre saving your future self money. Girl math"
I appreciate how you come at this kind of thing with facts; I've shown your videos to friends who have talked about some of these companies. You're basically saving lives.
Can we please have Ethan make a compilation video of all of the times boss babes say “Just going to hop on here quick”. Ps. I always look forward to your videos!
Girl math to me is this: "Oh look, these shoes are $300 but they're on sale for 20% off so I'm saving so much money, I have to buy them!" **Inner dialog: ma'am saving money means spending zero dollars...👀** Girl math gets us in trouble for real! 🤣
It's always interesting to me that they bring up "oh end of the month, perfect time to join!!" But girl that means the START of the month is coming and most of us have rent or a mortgage to pay. I'm more concerned about the roof over my head instead of the imaginary "half a million in four years"
You definitely pay a monthly fee for your “website”. I ALMOST joined (that’s how I found you Chelsea. I was doing research on MLMs and found you 😂) and as I was reading the fine print it says you do pay for your website. They also ask for your social security number when you sign up!! That’s what scared me off. I guess if you don’t make the payments if you are on autopay they send it to collections. Crazy stuff!
27:10 nah it’s freaking hilarious!!😂😂 how did they get them to believe they own part of a company just for signing up or however they did it. 😂😂 nobody starts a legit business is science, people up to take part in owning their business. I like for an example! The owner of Walmart or target the founders of Walmart in target, are not messaging people on Facebook saying hey sign up today and take part in the franchise you will own part of the company! And will be paid shares! 😂😂that doesn’t happen! Unless you start a business with somebody that’s the only way you’re going to get shares our own part of a company.
OMG, CC when my kiddos were little, my hubby and I would joke at how it took an entire DAY to watch one movie. And they were toddlers then. LOL. Never related more to a comment.
My husband is dyslexic and absolutely could not read in front of anybody. He was best man at his brother’s wedding and had to make a toast. all the guys were betting how many words he could get out before he choked. Seven. (Billy Franklin won) I digress. When we had kids he had to read to them out loud before bed. Best thing that could have happened to him. Saying little words like hop on pop out loud he gained a lot of confidence and lost the fear of language. Reads a ton now. Once Bean starts asking for you to read to him you may find the same thing happening.
CC I don't know if you remember Hayley Stell- you made a video of her a few months back but apparently she was fired from Monat and joined OLIVE TREE PEOPLE
Starting a business for free? Two lies in one. Last time I checked in order to have a business you need a DBA or LLC and an EIN. EINs are free yes but DBA and LLCs are 100% not. None of the above are required to join an MLM so I guess that means they aren’t business owners right lol?
Not defending her, of course, but "I seen it" is regional slang in some places - definitely the Great Lakes region, which her accent gives away. (My husband writes for a living, but he does it sometimes while talking casually. It does sound dopey to me, and I do occasionally tease him. 😏)
@gasparinha I live in that area and it's not so much slang as it is just bad grammar skills. It's used entirely by the lesser educated people in the area.
7:24 to me girl math is telling my husband that I bought something because it was 30% off so I’m saving us money, or fibbing (…lying) about the price or how much money I’ve spent.
My husband woke up to a $500,000 purchase order this morning. He spent the last week working on the quote. He will have to quote something new to get a new order in the future. Just because someone buys something while you are asleep doesn’t mean it’s passive or residual…
My husband is a tunesian... We were walking near the village his parents live in, and where he grew up in... I tried to explain The Olive Tree people... He was just laughing so hard... There are trees everywhere... I did feel more grounded... But, that isn't something that anyone could sell me...
The thing I think I hated so much about being in a MLM was the pressure to purchase new products when they would launch. The company I was working with for a few years had frequent product or product line launches and everyone was expected to order. It was definitely a cult like pressure. This particular company would do in-house promotions like the first 1,000 people to order with get a free XXX for ordering, So it sends everybody in a tizzy to the back office and then they all post about it when it gets delivered like they're special.
I love how these videos they always say you only have to do it 30 minutes a day! But then your listen to their meetings and they are ripping you for not working hard enough and that’s why your not advancing or recruiting enough people. Lol
Right? You can’t even get a hair cut? But people follow Jodi Hildebrandt, who apparently (and visibly) does not bathe and stinks. Really??? Why would you take ANY kind of advice from an ‘expert’ or ‘professional’ who does not have good personal hygiene??😢
Now I'm justifying every new plant I buy by saying to myself, "well at least it's cheaper than joining a cult!"
Fair and valid
Lol, does that work for electronics?😅
It also works on books
Now that's a winning mindset!
Also fabric!

LOL I got $100 back from my taxes. That’s not even groceries for us.
I've always felt the same about the whole "girl math" thing. From my perspective, it pushes the narrative that women aren't good with numbers or even that we're just not that smart. Fuck outta here with that bullshit is what I say to that lol
Also, the fact that she said "it's tax season and everyone is getting money" tells me everything I need to know about the audience she's targeting. My husband and I haven't received a refund since we crossed a certain income threshold years ago. In fact, we always end up owing even though we already pay out the fucking ass (don't get me started on that soapbox lol)
She's gotta use "girl math" because the real math doesn't work in a MLM
Yayyy I needed some CC this morning
The fact she said “tax money” tells me exactly who they target to scam out of money!! 😢😢
The fake urgency is so manipulative. I know someone who spent all of her tax return on LipSense, bought a huge decal for her car, spent all her time on Facebook (while at work) trying to sell, and eventually lost her job and all of course all the money put into the MLM. She is a single mom of 4.
Talking while doing mascara is wild, that’s next level skill right there lolll
My friends and i always joke about girl math in the way of "well if you spend the extra money and get it now, later you lll save money because you already have it. Youre saving your future self money. Girl math"
The "girl math" and "stay at home girlfriend" trends make me really nervous for girls that might take stuff like that seriously.
I appreciate how you come at this kind of thing with facts; I've shown your videos to friends who have talked about some of these companies. You're basically saving lives.
That moment when you realize your healing era was a manic episode 😂
😂😂😂
Here to keep me awake through jetlag. Your timing 🤌🏽
Can we please have Ethan make a compilation video of all of the times boss babes say “Just going to hop on here quick”.
Ps. I always look forward to your videos!
Love this idea!!!
Prepping for a super important interview today, this vid is just in time for a short break from the nerves! 🌶️
Good luck with your interview!
Girl math to me is this: "Oh look, these shoes are $300 but they're on sale for 20% off so I'm saving so much money, I have to buy them!" **Inner dialog: ma'am saving money means spending zero dollars...👀** Girl math gets us in trouble for real! 🤣
Girl math is “I returned a $100 pair of jeans, so I made $100!” 😂
It’s a very real struggle!😂
Or when you buy something but get kohl's cash so you basically MADE money even though you spent $50 to get that $10😂
Yes, this was my understanding of girl math. Justifying spending money even though we know deep down we shouldn’t lol
Getting paid later for work you do now is called my job 😂 Anyone need a payroll specialist?!
Yesss listening to this while cleaning toilets. Fitting 😂
I’m a house cleaner so same !!! Ahhaha
Oh joy! Just did ours, too, though.😂
Not Brent’s ears perk up when he overheard you mentioned the fast and furious marathon!! 😭💀🤣
Yasssss I said “who am I Sherrilyn’s husband?” But my edit cut it out😂😂😂
Coming at me with that hair wanting to sell hair products? No ma’am they don’t look like they are doing you any favors.
This one is gold Chelsea. 💛
(and the title is facts.)
These women might be getting money back through the Earned Income Tax Credit cuz they make less than poverty wages 😂
It's always interesting to me that they bring up "oh end of the month, perfect time to join!!" But girl that means the START of the month is coming and most of us have rent or a mortgage to pay. I'm more concerned about the roof over my head instead of the imaginary "half a million in four years"
My “girl math” is: ‘me at home’ minus ‘my bra’ equals ‘not going back outside’
Always so happy to see your new upload, also commenting for the algorithm
You definitely pay a monthly fee for your “website”. I ALMOST joined (that’s how I found you Chelsea. I was doing research on MLMs and found you 😂) and as I was reading the fine print it says you do pay for your website. They also ask for your social security number when you sign up!! That’s what scared me off. I guess if you don’t make the payments if you are on autopay they send it to collections. Crazy stuff!
They prey on people when you are really susceptible. Then exploit you unless you realize how you're being exploited
I think she knows the lies coming out of her mouth are lies, so she can't even be bothered to say the entire words..hence "redeschuyall income".😂
she's smirking saying this cause she doesn't believe it
Can you go into what MLMs are not doing well by showing how the comp has changed or their top earnings are only getting a third of their checks?
OMG, CC when my kiddos were little, my hubby and I would joke at how it took an entire DAY to watch one movie. And they were toddlers then. LOL. Never related more to a comment.
Am I the only one thinking of 'The Craft' every time she says "Now is the time..." ? 😆
I’ve been waiting for a CC upload 🎉
The one on one "mentorship" is bull. They don't care to mentor you.
I didn't realize that's where girl math came from but it makes so much sense lol. I've only seen it in regard to spending money 🤣
Happy belated birthday, Queen! ♥️
“My baby is teething and I’m just surviving”
Girl same
Sweeettttt...just in time to listen while I walk my pup since my current audio book sucks.
I just think of Dwight pressuring Andy to sell his Xterra “Do it do it sell me the car” 😂
I don't trust the judgment of anyone who says "seen" when it should be "saw."
Yes! That does my head in when people say "I seen", aaaaaargh. 🙃
@@ashleyhall6098 I've heard people with advanced degrees do it the Buffalo area - just colloquially, but it does happen!
@@gasparinha even people with degrees can have bad grammar 🤷♀️
7:24 to me girl math is telling my husband that I bought something because it was 30% off so I’m saving us money, or fibbing (…lying) about the price or how much money I’ve spent.
1) OMG push your glasses up 2) why do you sell shampoo but go online with greasy and fried hair?
My husband woke up to a $500,000 purchase order this morning. He spent the last week working on the quote. He will have to quote something new to get a new order in the future. Just because someone buys something while you are asleep doesn’t mean it’s passive or residual…
Urgency is also a tactic for social engineering (hacking user accounts and/or devices).
Urgency is always a red flag.
My husband is a tunesian... We were walking near the village his parents live in, and where he grew up in... I tried to explain The Olive Tree people... He was just laughing so hard... There are trees everywhere...
I did feel more grounded... But, that isn't something that anyone could sell me...
IDK tho, maybe I don't want people to talk to me at family functions lol 🤣
Lol
I wanna know who looked at her very damaged hair and said yeah totally I wanna try this scammy scam
Right? You can’t even get a hair cut?
But people follow Jodi Hildebrandt, who apparently (and visibly) does not bathe and stinks. Really???
Why would you take ANY kind of advice from an ‘expert’ or ‘professional’ who does not have good personal hygiene??😢
