There's examples of good people all around them, they choose not to take that route. People make mistakes, that's understood, but they don't have to keep making mistakes every single day until they die. Anybody who puts soul blame on the area or the family or the streets and takes it off of the induvial is part of the problem. Those people in the street life make up a small % of those that live in the hood, it's not most people gang banging, selling drugs, fighting, or shooting it's a small % of a criminal element. Most going to work, going home and get caught in the cross fire of these criminals nonsense. And many of those people in the hood, just like I grew up, have gang banging family, friends or were raised around it, yet MOST are not doing it. FBI got the criminal statistics on gang membership, they have informants in the hood, they have criminals that speak on it in and out of jail, there's enough information for us to see what is what and where it happens, people just refuse to accept the truth about these things because the truth brings accountability. There is more than enough good examples around the community to display why they shouldn't be doing what they doing, they choose to do it because to some the lifestyle of a street person is appealing and you can thank glorification of that lifestyle via the media, businesses and some in the hood for that.

The word you're looking for is empathy. Not sympathy. And when people are raised in a warzone they tend to deal with PTSD and lack empathy towards others. When you grow up without love it's impossible to love others. When you grow up around heart ache and suffering you're unable to develop empathy. You don't know how because you were most likely raised in a fairly healthy household. Or at least healthy compared to what these two have endured. They probably lost their senses by the time they were 4 or 5 years old.. if not even sooner. Similar to the kids that grow up in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other parts of the world that deal with violence on a regular every day basis.
