What is this obsession that I have lately with Valentino? I have known of him for decades and my favorite era in all of history is the roaring 20's -- the time when he was all the rage. I have my entertainment room set up with pictures of some of the idols of that time -- Louise Brooks, Harold Lloyd and Valentino. But I don't know what has prompted this obsession to know everything about him. He was so different than other men. He was so ROMANTIC. When I see a scene in his movies where he is kissing a woman's hand, I literally MELT! Let alone him kissing her lips. He had animal magnetism and charisma that no other actor had or has today. I shiver when I think of him. Wish I could go back in time and just see him, even if it was from a distance. Gosh, I really don't know when this will end; hopefully, NEVER!

No, not a perfect man for just any woman. Valentino grew up in a traditional family, that honored and respected its traditions very seriously. He needed a companion that understood and revered those traditions the way he did so both of them could have a successful union. Nothing is ever perfect, but I think that teaming up with a mate that understood what he was all about would have made him a happier man.

I think Rudy missed his chance to save himself by not seeking medical advice about his stomach problems. He was young and fit and unfortunately put up.with the pain and discomfort he must have been feeling. Rudys story came to a horrible ending and to say fate is sometimes cruel is not even close to the reality of it. On another topic the first record I ever bought was in the ghetto by Elvis and what is really weird my relative an actress named Angela Green was in a film.with him. There are also some Valentino blogs. There is also his private diary (kindle, amazon) he wrote while on his trip back to Italy. In his own words, it gives a feeling for his visits with his family and revisiting his native land and local area where he was born and grew up (Puglia area in Italy in the heel -- not the toe -- of the Italian boot geographically). His family didn't really understand his fame and what he did for a living until he arranged film showings for them and they were quite amazed. In London he was mobbed, and of course, in the US he was also mobbed. He knew this came with fame but it bothered him to be stared at and he didn't like the sudden lack of privacy. Even today young idols have to learn to deal with the fishbowl atmosphere, but then there were few to advise him on how to deal with it, or at least commiserate with him. He did have a small group of good friends, though. He would go to Palm Springs to refresh in the desert -- few people around at that time. One further comment, I love the choices of music used in these homages to the fabulous Rudolph Valentino. This Italian rendition of The Righteous Brothers classic nearly trumps the original. Just as Rudy trumped all film idols, before or since.

There have been two films made, both not very good. We have been waiting for the independent production for years...little bits have been posted...it's made from Rudy's viewpoint...and seems very heartfelt...Money issues have made up wait for so long and we're still waiting....

According to "the Big Money " by John Dos Passos, for Valentino's burial there were thousands of mourning women fighting and trying to get nearer his coffin, and there were hundreds of women's shoes which did not match left on the ground after the ceremony . Dos Passos, who hated the star system, had very hard words : when they opened the beautiful body, everything was rotten inside. A symbol of America's decay .

Read Dark Lover, the best bio on Rudy by Emily Leider, available on Amazon. Also Donna Hill's Rudolph Valentino, Silent Idol tells his life in short 2-3 pages in sections, each short text section followed by dozens of lovely photos. Get the expanded edition, also on amazon. There are also some Valentino blogs.
There is also his private diary (kindle, amazon) he wrote while on his trip back to Italy. In his own words, it gives a feeling for his visits with his family and revisiting his native land and local area where he was born and grew up (Puglia area in Italy in the heel -- not the toe -- of the Italian boot geographically). His family didn't really understand his fame and what he did for a living until he arranged film showings for them and they were quite amazed. In London he was mobbed, and of course, in the US he was also mobbed. He knew this came with fame but it bothered him to be stared at and he didn't like the sudden lack of privacy. Even today young idols have to learn to deal with the fishbowl atmosphere, but then there were few to advise him on how to deal with it, or at least commiserate with him. He did have a small group of good friends, though. He would go to Palm Springs to refresh in the desert -- few people around at that time. He also liked traveling in Italy on his trip home, and nobody knew him from Adam and he was "just another Italian" when there. He drove fantastically expensive cars and drove so fast his wife had anxiety attacks in the car. She took the train back to "civilization" in Paris where she ordered extravagant clothes. He had a few car accidents too. He loved to tinker on his cars, taking them apart and putting them back together to run more smoothly. He also loved horseback riding in the Hollywood Hills, and at Palm Springs. He was essentially still a boy at heart. On his trip to Italy he instantly bonded with his nephew, Jean, who later worked in the film industry in California. Jean looks just like him especially around the eyes. Quite amazing.

@@colleencupido5125 It is dry and also now out of date in some areas as more information has appeared. I try to update a lot of things going back to the original sources...Too many sites repeat the "lore" which is not true. I have found errors in books ...have the original sources in my collection and it really upsets me to see information made up i.e., time the body left the hospital. I have a whole video up on that on my channel!
