I never heard this version! Even singing in another language,, she nailed the emotion, the power in her vocals. She got even better as she aged and came out with an album recently. Love it
She was an amazing singer. There are three versions of Shirley Bassye's song Never Never Never - the original in Italian by Mina titled Grande Grande Grande; the Spanish version by Vicki Carr also titled Grande Grande Grande; and the English version by Shirley Bassey titled Never Never Never. Ironically I like the original the least. Both Vicki Carr and Shirley Bassey put so much MORE emotion into their versions. They were all great singers though.

I've been a fan of Shirley Bassey since "Diamonds Are Forever". I went out and bought the soundtrack to the movie. There's a line in the song, "men are mere mortals not worth going to your grave for". I absolutely love the way she pronounces mortals while she is singing!

I am not a concert goer. If there is a performer out there today that can deliver such a voice to an audience, please tell me, and I will travel to wherever, to sat front and center. Such a voice, such a talented performer, her image belongs beside the words artist, musician, superstar, and diva. Many have imitated, but none have duplicated such performance. Contemporary singers, performers, simply don't measure up to Dane Shirley Bassy. Shocking, some of her albums are banded in the United States, I wonder why!😮
As well as her amazing voice Dame Shirley's a remarkable performance artiste.
She emotes each song with the appropriate passion, sass and humour. 🙂

there are thousands of performances from shirley on youtue and i have to say most of them are much better than this. a much better performance from the same period is her version of 'if you go away'. search for if you go away/domani. a short way of discovering if bassey is for you, watch 'live at the royal albert hall 1973. a very good concert.
