  • I was really eager to put this crazy looking FOB thing to the test. How does it compare to vanes, and specifically Blazers? Check out the vid to see. There's also a coupon code to receive 10% OFF if you order them from their website: FOBArchery.com I get a small bit as well, which helps me purchase materials for my tests.The code is LUSK10 Thank you!

    Add another vote for FOB from me. I've been using them since 2009 and for the speed of fletching, ease of replacing on the range and getting that arrow back in the quiver immediately, and laser beam accuracy at long distance I'll never use vanes again. As far as losing an arrow on a pass through shot, that has never been an issue for me. I have lost a couple but if i lose that arrow on a shot at an animal I'll gladly trade that arrow shaft for the memory. Honestly though after walking a couple circles where the animal was the shafts have always been pretty easy to find. For the price they're worth getting a package and trying them out.
    Great video and review!

      So how heavy are they? I hear there hvy. So it messes up your f.o.c.! Also, wouldn't it prevent your arrow from passing through or does it stay in them as they run off?

      Do you hunt in windy conditions? As a Kansas native, I can attest to how well the FOBs handle strong crosswinds better than vanes. I've been using FOBs since 2011, and I won't use anything else when I hunt from a tree stand. I use vanes when I hunt from a blind since I leave the mesh screen up. I have calculated front/back balance between my vane/wrap setup and my FOB/wrap setup so that my dynamic spine is the same. I can stack FOB and vane on top of each other. The FOB has popped off with every deer I've shot, so I know where to start looking, and the reflective wrap I use makes finding the arrow at dusk very easy.

    • @remi3479
      @remi3479 5 років тому +1

      I live in the PNW and it does get windy. I mainly spot and stock, I’m usually hunting in extremely brushy densely wooded areas. I have no doubt the FOB is good alternative to fletching.

    I have had these for years now and I agree, they flat out work. as for nock pinch there used to be (maybe still is) a nock company called Accu-noc their nock was a bit longer and has a string grabbing feature. Also to avoid those "FOBinhoods" put a mesh or target face about 3 to 4 feet in front of your target...allows you to group tune without busting nock's and FOB's.
    When I was a member of the "FOBNATION" forum waaaay back, some of those guys came up with some really cool "hacks" so to speak for these FOB's.
    COOL video!!!!

    I've been shooting FOBs ever since Paul came out with them. They just sat in my archery cabinet for more than a month because I kept putting off trying them. I was kind of dreading it as I was thinking about what could happen if the rest did not drop fast enough. I was very pleasantly surprised at the shot when nothing exploded and the arrow flew like a dart! I've been shooting them ever since. I have killed dozens of animals using FOBs and can't imagine ever changing to anything else. Most of the time when you hear someone criticizing FOBs, it is either someone with a really bad anchor or someone that has their nocks TOO TIGHT and their FOBs are breaking on impact with the target, and in many cases, the naysayers have never even tried them (typical for the AT crowd).

    • @JohnLuskOutdoors
      @JohnLuskOutdoors 5 років тому

      Joe Blake Haha. Very true Joe. There were a lot of scare stories about rest timing. But the FOBs stick out less than a Blazer and you have a few more inches for the rest to fall before they get there. If that causes a problem, the rest was way out of tune already. Good to hear your experience. I’m eager to try them on some animals.

    Cool concept to consider. However, the reason for better penetration could be the veins caused significant slowdown through the gel where the FOB came off allowing it to pass through the gel effortlessly. Nonetheless, great vid and comparison between the two.

    Ok so after watching this video I purchased a pack I stripped off my 3” 4 fletch fletchings and wraps put on a fob and shot it all I can say is if your not shooting fobs you definitely need to be now with that said I’ve shot them through 2 of my hunting setups my dangerous game set up it’s a btx28 pulling 83 pounds with Easton fmj 300 nock on addition with 200 grains at the nose of the arrow it weighs 630 grains and my deer set up is a 72 pound Hoyt nitrum shooting a 400 grain arrow the fobs had no issue stabilizing either setup and increased accuracy using fixed blad broadheads drastically I’m able to spot shoot with fixed blade broadheads at 50 yards all I can say is buy a pack shoot them and I’m willing to bet a fob will be on your arrow this hunting season

    My groups are very tight I have five robinhooded arrows at forty yards so far , I've shot shafts touching at a 100 yards three shot groups. You should try a accuracy test and penetration test on straight versus helical.plus the noise helical makes at high speeds is way to loud causing deer to jump the shot

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts Richard. Honestly, I am not concerned about arrow flight noise. I've never seen it be an issue in the field. Bow noise is horrible, cause the animals can pin point the origin...but I've zipped arrows past turkeys, and deer and elk with helical vanes and never had them move a bit. For all they know, it's a bird or bug zipping by.

    How do they fit in a quiver? My blazer vanes overlap quite a bit... My arrows have just a hair under 3/4" between each other in the quiver... How tall are these from the shaft?

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  5 років тому

      The entire diameter is 1", so they stick out less far from the arrow than a Blazer vane does. There is no problem fitting 5 of them in my Tightspot quiver. If there were a problem, they are so short that they can easily be staggered above and below one another.

  • @news2383
    @news2383 2 роки тому

    I think hunters care way to much about noise. I can drive right up to deer on my lawn mower and they will not run away. Hell I have put arrows right next to deer without them running away. I have listened to podcast with the sound all the way up without them running away. Only thing that's scares them is the sounds of leaves being stepped on.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 роки тому

      In general, I agree that arrow flight noise is not a very big deal. Bow shot noise can be, but they cannot pinpoint the origin of a flying arrow--it could be a bug or bird flying by for all they know. But I suppose every animal and environment can be different.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 роки тому +1

      It can be difficult. That's why they recommend using a reflective wrap. After using them on animals, the nice thing is the FOB falls off right where you hit the animal, so you can find the exact spot you shot the animal fairly easily. Then you just line up which direction the arrow was going and you can find it. But if it buries under leaves, it can be difficult.

    Great video John, I'm going 2 be hunting with a low profile fixed blade BH Holy Trinity in the 125 grain size with a just over 16% FOC so the weight doesn't bother me due 2 shooting both smaller surface area on the front as well as the back of the arrow when using the FOB. However I have micro Victory VAP TKO's 4 less drag & more penetration with a 515 grain setup. The blazer vanes on these shafts with the Blazer jig r very consistent from 1 arrow 2 the next. I also am using pin nocks on these VAPS so my ? is what do i have 2 do 2 incorporate FOB into my setup? I have 2 bare shafts & a new well tuned bow & I am finding no difference when shooting those also.

      Thank you Joseph. I really appreciate the encouragement and support. Sounds like you have a great set up. You certainly don't "need" to incorporate the FOB. But summer is a good time to play around and try some stuff out. I would suggest you get a pack and try them on any bare shaft you have. Make sure you order the correct size. They sure look weird when you're looking at them. But you get use to that. They have some good colors. and adding a nice wrap makes it look cooler. I would just experiment a bit and see which set up you prefer.

      @LuskArcheryAdventures  5 років тому +1

      Rages are good, but they're not the best. In one of my big mech tests, the Dead Meat took first place. I like that head. But I don't totally trust the way the blades open and close within a medium. I've set up several different layers of different materials. When the material was really hard, the blades would open fully. But then when the mediums were softer, the blades close back down. The wound channel varied from 1.5" diameter down to 1". That's why it penetrated well, but in an animal that will not cut as much tissue. Most mechanicals have that problem, except for the Sevr and the Afflictor Hybrid.

    • @danmerck7613
      @danmerck7613 5 років тому

      Sevr has had my attention since I first seen Deer and Deer hunting talking about it. My main concern with it really is that the blades will move if they come in contact with something such as bone, does that mean if its passing through a deer and comes across something other than bone like an organ, will the blade move and not damage it as well as it would if the blade was fixed. Just a thought I guess. It all comes down to shot placement at the end. I'm very picky. Lol. I once shot a doe with a rage and the angle was steep. Looking back I wouldn't have taken the shot but instead of penetrating the deer it found a rib and rode down the deer cutting it clean open. I did recover the deer but I didn't like how the broadhead did that. "Really my fault" but thats a case where the sevr would probably preform much better I'd think. Thanks for your time John.

      The rest is supposed to be down and out of the way by the time the fletching or FOB passes through. That is the idea of the drop away, it is out of the picture once the shaft gets moving. Some drop away immediately, others are microtuned to support the arrow until the very last microsecond before the fletchings pass through, then drop away just prior to the fletching arriving at the rest.
