So Big was required reading for me in high school (1960's). I remember loving it.

As a teenager, some 40 years ago, I discovered Edna Ferber and her amazing book, So Big. I loved old movies then, and I was amazed to find the actual book on the shelves of my school library. I agree that this book should be a part of the Canon. It speaks of the ephemeral and the elusive qualities that time and steadiness bring. It is also a testament to the strength of women. Even after 40 years, So Big is still one of my favorite books and, having read several of her books, I can say that Edna Ferber is still one of my favorite authors. Thank you for recommending her book.

I’m reading it now
