Started with OldFilth last year and I can’t get enough of Jane Gardam. The most brilliant writer of the twentieth century. Why is she not world famous? Loved The Queen of the Tambourine , two books of short stories and I am currently reading A Long Way from Verona. So clever and so hilarious.

Ann Patchett has a very pretty smile.

Film adaptations of James's work sometimes stick out to me more than the reading experiences. But one of my favorites was The Spoils of Poynton

I also loved The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer

Transcendent Kingdom is phenomenal. This was book of the year for me last year, and I read many great books!

That trilogy is addictive and a masterclass in how to handle structure and perspective. So clever, so moving, so intelligent. Gardam is a wonderful short story writer, too!

yes. the Casey Cep book is one h of a book.

This was a good enough book, but I believe the author writes in a somewhat naive way. Also, she doesn’t seem to know much about Labrador retrievers, of which one is portrayed as a snarling guard dog. Labs, as a breed, aren’t like that. They’re goofy and loveable. Ms. Locke is somewhat better with human characters.

Having that giant pile, i.e. multiple shelves, gives me such a sense of security, books for every reason and mood right here.

I was driving from Florida to Massachusetts and took a long detour in order to go to Parnassus today--so disappointed to find it closed! But it means I get to plan another trip soon…😁

First: Christmas comes early - see all the blinking lights! Second: Who ist that dog?! And he reminds me of some book lovers, who come in the store and are walking up and down, like, no, I have just not found, what I was looking for, because I have such a very special taste.

Okay, sounds weird, I'm watching this on July 19th, and it was probably about July 8th or 9th I pulled this book from my shelf and started reading. I'll finish it this weekend, and YES! it's been the perfect novel for right now.

Publishers should be giving you commission!!! You're wonderful! I wish I lived in your country, in your neighbourhood, so I could pop by and listen to you wax poetic about books, and buy some of course.;-)

Excellent recommendations! DFW and Sam Beckett are the two authors who most frequently drove me to the dictionary. If you didn't know the word chances were, it was the PERFECT word for that sentence. Even, perhaps especially, when the reading was infuriating, you could learn something very interesting.

I would be sitting in a park homeless because I would have spent all my money on books in your store if I lived in your city, and country. What a good writer you are, and what an enthusiastic book seller, and just very decent human being.

Funnily enough, I read On Beauty for the first time this week! I really enjoyed it. So much to think about in it, too, as well as pure enjoyment.

I just listened with JC on NPR. I'm glad she didn't have any kids. What a self possessed whining entitled whatever the heck she is.
