Hell itself was supposed to be a beatiful and normal world until Davoth (who is immortal) went after the search for immortality for his people as he feared they'd become extinct and over time the land fell into ruins and turned into hell. Also most of demons are formed from the Husk bodies from which the Argent energy is extracted so Dark lords doesn;t really protect their people but use them as a pawn for most of the time
That they put this much work into his face, only to cast him in a helmet for official release just shows you how much love was put into this game. ID Software deserves some real recognition for this.
Compared to the base game, the dlc seems to have more detailed facial animations on the Slayer. In the base game you'd often see some weird out of place animations, but here it looks very well.
gameplay being very intricate and tight unlike most AAA games should be a far more notable example of care rather than superfluous visuals that every modern game has

That's not the case at all. Read the codex for the father and seraphim. Dark Lord was actually the first being the father created. Back when there were no universes besides jekkad (which eventually became hell).
I don't know if this means anything but I find it interesting that the Slayer has scars here and there and the Dark Lord has none. At the very least that means they're two separate models and not just different textures applied to the same one, way to put in the work, id.

After seeing doomguy looking like a grain of sand against the Titan's hand, it makes me wonder how he's killed TWO OF THESE
This is really good that they did those face expressions under helmet, because we can see what he is thinking or guess at least
They should add an option to not have a helmet.
They put wayyy too much work into the facial animations for them not to even be seen.

It works so well. I have no idea why they didn't just have him take the helmet off during specific scenes. It fits so good it's like it was made that way in the first place.
3:14 you can see here The Slayer is actually stunned at Samuel having the audacity to tell HIM to be grateful. Because of all people it's _totally_ Doomguy that's the one that needs to be grateful. The attention to detail is just amazing here, id needs more kudos for this kind of work.

The facial expressions just tell that doomguy is really tired of the seraphim telling him what to do and he justs wants to kill shit
despite being under a helmet for the entire game, they still gave him facial animations rather than a foggy visor and somehow it makes the slayer less blood thirsty and more goal driven and I like it
