I personally read this as a psychic battle in which the following occurs: 1. David, not wanting to harm Oliver, establishes a defensive perimeter. 2. Oliver pushes the offensive. 3. David maintains only defensive action. 4. Lenny joins the fight. 5. Outnumbered and overpowered, David is forced to take more aggressive, offensive action. 6. All parties go for broke at the climax of the fight and outcome of battle is left unknown.
kebin Someone brought up an interesting point on Reddit, that our minds wouldn't be able to comprehend a real psychic showdown so we see it as a dance off.
That's it. Deadpool needs to completely randomly show up on Legion while on his way to another Marvel property, like he's Bugs Bunny : "Well, fucknuts. Looks like I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque."
Taken from IO9 "It’s not just that it works as a visual representation of a psychic slap fight, it’s also an indication of what’s going on with David and how both his and the Shadow King’s skills are evolving. When it appears as if David’s about to beat him, the Shadow King stops presenting himself as Oliver, whose dancing was hard and violent, and instead transforms into Lenny, whose style is more fluid and seductive. The shift takes David by surprise and we see that the game he and the Shadow King are playing is one both of skill and ingenuity"
They apparently spent about a week working on that scene. Aubrey said that she'd had no previous formal dance training, and they stuck everybody in a room with professional choreographers seven hours a day to get them ready for this dance battle.
I love the subtle similarities between the 1st episodes of both season 1 and 2 both have a group choreographed dance scene and in both once when David is freed he instantly wants waffles
@@cheeky_cheeks5086 I recall liking it well enough. Moody and interesting, though at least one of the supporting cast performances didn't click with me, and the half-hearted references to Professor X were more frustrating than engaging. I think the X-Men connection is a mixed bag: their adaption of the Shadow King is creepy and cool, but from what I remember, they didn't do anything compelling with this alternate version of the X-Men team. It felt hamstrung and awkward in that regard -- almost like they had to have the comic book connection but couldn't fully explore it. Legion is at its best when it is allowed to take its influences and does its own thing with them. If I recall correctly, I fell off watching the show because I ran out of episodes. I'll have to give the final season a look.
Aubrey's dancer body would be killing me if everything about Dan Stevens hadn't already utterly destroyed me. Cary and Oliver are just extra murder on top.
For anyone who's unaware, this is a psychic battle being represented via a dance battle. The end where the lights overwhelm everything is David unleashing his latent power which eclipses both Shadow King and Oliver.
OK. The first time I watched the premier I was confused but after watching again I think I got it, this is basically a psychic battle between the three of them right? Oliver and Lenny vs David. It's just being represented with dance because telepathic battles are about perception and mental attack. They are supposed to be surreal and mind bending. Right?
S D I think so and I love it. Other shows and movies have psychic battles happening in the astral/mental plane as a physical fight, Like Xmen Apocalypse. There just throwing punches in another plane. This show tells us that a mental battle could take many forms. It's happening in the mind so anything is possible and everything is surreal.
There's actually two shadowkings well 2 versions of the same person. The new shadowking that is shown to us is controlling cary and oliver. The question is why is the new version of the shadowking holding back cary if they are essentially the same person. My theory is that cary is a manifestation of the shadow king in davids mind and instead of finding the original shadow kings body, cary wants to connect back to david since davids power is limitless compared to the original body of the shadowking. Just my theory on whats happening next.
You may notice a lot of references to "X" or images containing "x's" in Legion, and this one of them. David's backup dancers form an x around him on the ground, and he repeatedly makes an X with his forearms when he's...idk, "pushing the offensive" and stepping forward. There's so many little details in Noah Hawley's shows, I love it
DAMN CARY Edit: Also if this is how David saw the battle (assuming it's his perception of one). what do you guys think Farouk/Lenny or Oliver saw? What about Professor X when he fought him? And what about Kerry?
lenny is dead and just a puppet at this point. oliver was shown earlier to be in an imagined world where he is being kept quiet while farouk is piloting the body.
Head writer: okay, next we need to figure out how to show a psychic battle between three people without the budget for crazy cgi stuff ideas anyone? Random writer: (mumbling), fuck if I know, dance battle? Head writer: what was that? Random writer: uh, nothing, dance battle? Head writer: that’s... that’s genius! That’s why we pay you the big bucks! Random writer: wait, you don’ Head writer:THAT’S WHY WE PAY YOU THE BIG BUCKS Random writer: uh, sure
my favorite show had a dance off! my second favorite (magicians) had a david bowie musical. And my third favorite had a cartoon Scooby Doo episode. TV is awesome right now!!
Now imagine Professor X and shadow King in a dance off in Cairo.... I’d give my left but to see Patrick Stewart in a dance battle this season in the finale with Shadow King!! Lol
1:12 the way Lenny moves with the one dancer is really reminiscent of when the Shadow King revealed himself as Lenny back in Season 1, with Lenny sliding down and around their body. Except Lenny isn't at all in control, and Oliver/The Dancers (Shadow King) are in charge of her.
Curious It's not White Rabbit. White Rabbit is the song at the end of episode, which was a cover sung by the showrunner Noah Hawley. OP asked about the song in this scene which is just a track from the score by Jeff Russo.
I want Noah Hawley to say sometime how much of the show was artistic vision and how much was just messing with FX executives to see how much they'd let him do
actually, it would have to be the other way around, as david was looking for the shadow king, and it appears that they were representations of the defenses that he was using to prevent it.
he's controlling a cerebro-like device. if you view the choreography an analogy, him and david are in sync, working together to enhance david's powers and help him ward off the shadow king. while the shadow king manages to stop david from finding his body, i think david manages to get the upper hand at the end.

Cary was in the lab, not being controlled by Farouk. In this scene Farouk had control over Oliver's and Lenny's forms. Oliver and Lenny, as shown in another scene, are trapped in Farouk's mind as Farouk is piloting Oliver's body.
I personally read this as a psychic battle in which the following occurs:

GunslingerKT19 Maannnn, thats some psychological educational boss ass scientific shit right there
GunslingerKT19 Yeah, it was a metaphor.
Oliver starting to use Lenny when he was lossing ground surprising David.
This was happening in the past...
In a way, this is the most dangerous dance scene ever to appear on screen.
Words can’t describe how amazing this show is
But numbers can, 9.5/10.
This show is something else
dude took A LOT of acid
Kirbae Exactly, I was like what the fuck did they do to my show? It’s sooooo good and it makes no sense at all.
kebin Someone brought up an interesting point on Reddit, that our minds wouldn't be able to comprehend a real psychic showdown so we see it as a dance off.
I never said I didn't get it, but okay.
Deadpool is just sitting there offscreen going, "this shit's weird."
KingOfMadCows 😂😂😂 I can just picture that in my head !
Brendan Milburn 😂😂😂 love your comment !
It's because he's the most insane person in the universe. Of course it's weird.
That's it. Deadpool needs to completely randomly show up on Legion while on his way to another Marvel property, like he's Bugs Bunny : "Well, fucknuts. Looks like I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque."
Deadpool is weird
Love it.
Still thinking this is David's re-imagining of a psychic battle the three of them had, or at least something to that effect.
Hee I think you're both right.
Taken from IO9

You can tell Dan's, Jermaine's and Audrey's moves were very practiced and choreographed. With Bill Irwin, I think Hawley just said, "Do what you do."
marchap11 Jemaine*
They apparently spent about a week working on that scene. Aubrey said that she'd had no previous formal dance training, and they stuck everybody in a room with professional choreographers seven hours a day to get them ready for this dance battle.
I can do those dance moves no problem. I learned them by slowing down the video
@@malakaimorgan6583 que legal saber desses detalhes

Hawley: "Bill, there's going to be a dance battle. Join the fight -- it's playtime."
Bill: "Say no more."
I love the subtle similarities between the 1st episodes of both season 1 and 2 both have a group choreographed dance scene and in both once when David is freed he instantly wants waffles
Legion is easily the coolest shit ever done with the Marvel brand on it and some of the best TV/film ever, god dammit.
Yawn
Larry Ullrick you are a fool
I love how you posted this so quickly!
*Astral plane dance fight*
This show is the trippiest show ever. Been watchin it since it started.
Legion was barely on my radar, but this clip changed that. Gonna start watching.
It’s been 5 years how’d you like it?

I was expecting some loud music for this! I like the song they chose its really surprising and intense!
This show has a lot of really wonderful original composition by Jeff Russo, including the song for this scene.
Aubrey's dancer body would be killing me if everything about Dan Stevens hadn't already utterly destroyed me. Cary and Oliver are just extra murder on top.

I love this show so god damn much, THanks FX.
I love how they incorporate SK's music into the dance at 2:04.
Bill Irwin, you are my spirit animal :)
Who?
Paul Christle Bill Irwin plays Cary.
I know who Bill Irwin is meant SK
Paul Christle oh sorry lol
SK stands for Shadow King.
In the best possible way, my reaction to this is:
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat thaaaaaaaa fuuuuuuu-
Love this show. It's like if Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson, and David Lynch all collaborated on a superhero story.
Not A Doctor the X-Men + Twin Peaks= Legion
random nerd And I love twin peaks so this ep or even this show as a whole makes me happy
Get out of my head
You meant antihero
Yorgos Lanthimos too
that violin at 0:59 though......shit my heart stopped
George Weasley that violin is killing it !
George Weasley They really knew what they were doing here
Kirbae true that.
music is SO dayUM good!!
I know CPR! On my way!
My favorite moment from the episode
I'm pretty sure this is the visual representation of a Psychic Battle, and I love it! This show is so creative!
So was this what Professor X was doing in the astral plane all those times he fought the Shadow King in the comics? lol.
Super Nerd Video imagine if he was in the wheelchair and the original xmen are his backup dancers that be even more hilarious.
Brendan Milburn We should that would be great.
It should be. He's not crippled in the astral plane.
The dancing scene from the first season was so suddenly random that it made me burst into laughter.

Brock Roscover Cary isn't being controlled
Every time I watch this I pick up on something new, everyone did a truly amazing job in this scene.
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched this scene but I’m always smiling at the end. Just brilliant.
The sound and music on this show is of the hook 😎
I swear, this is one of the coolest moments, not only of this series, but in the history of television. I flipped over it. Legion is amazing.

This blows away the Step Up dance battles simply for what it represents! I'm falling deeper in love with this show!
The shots cutting to Cary dancing in the material world right in the middle of this battle was genius
This show is beyond tremendous. It is a gift that keeps on giving. And I am very thankful for that.
This is absolutely amazing.
"they're break dance fighting"
I love this strange-ass show soooo much.
I feel like everytime I watch this show im losing more sanity than i have
Anybody else feel like they were checking out Jemaine's Sugar Lumps?
BEST SHOW EVER!!!

I'd imagine the battle between Prof X and Shadow King manifested as a chess game (or some other strategy game).
That was actually excellent.

💘 this show! It's so trippy!!!
Fox marvel sure has some creative battles. Theyve come a long way from striking amphibians with lightning.
This show is next level.
Anyone else think Kerry's dancing was the best part?
I LOVE how Cary is essentially DJing this dance off.
Rap Battle currently happening in s3 and I'm missing this dance off. Iconic moment
LOVED the rap battle!!! Seeing Jemaine in fine form again was BEST.
I can’t help watch this over and over Cary Part gets to me every time 😂
great scene. good job cast and production!
Love this shoe lol it was like a super hero mushroom trip 😂
You just got served
Big fan of the show! Love the music!!
I've seen every episode at least twice now.
What a mindfuck of a show,and it's pure genuis!
So this is what a psychic battle looks like.
Best fight dance scene ever!!! Didn’t think I’d won’t that but I did
could we add emma frost or jean grey to the mix?
finale music battle makes 100x more sense
Mind control dance battle!!!
.......I love this show.
that's the stuff.
I think I should just start sending legion scenes to people with no context and see if they can figure out what the shows about
Star Lord is not happy...
I love this trippy show.
Bill Irwin is the MAN....look at those fu*king moves!!
Where can I find the song in this?
What song is that?
Michael Simpson a lame choice is what.

A+ grade. Great freak'n scene! Excellent episode, actually. ☕🙃
1:20 Mr. Noodle!
Love it. A telepath dance battle
Is there fight scenes in this show
Thank god for Audrey plaza
Haha I fucking love this show! Hawley, you goddamn genius
Does this track have an official name?
0:59 omg Aubrey plaza is just so fucking hot in this show I can't get enough of her !
Legion plus Deadpool would be a interesting combo of crazy 😂
Cary getting down
Who won?
wiinterflowers It’s ambiguous, so for now, probably safe to assume none of them.
WHO'S NEXT?!? YOU DECIDE!!!
Cary
Seems to be a draw or David hit them just enough for them to back off.
actually, it would have to be the other way around, as david was looking for the shadow king, and it appears that they were representations of the defenses that he was using to prevent it.
THis just screams EMMY!!! please...
Aubrey plaza portion is mesmerizing ❤❤
I love it
Foreshadowing this season?
Layers of the shadow king
How’s a schizophrenic supposed to social distance when there’s this many personalities??!! 🤯
i love this scene but can someone explain wtf is going on? a psychic dance off between david and farouk (and lenny)?
pezloal88 it's suppose to be a psychic battle of sorts on the spiritual plane.
Neave Robinson that's what i figured. really awesome way to depict it. thanks! what role did the tan suited guy play though?
he's controlling a cerebro-like device. if you view the choreography an analogy, him and david are in sync, working together to enhance david's powers and help him ward off the shadow king. while the shadow king manages to stop david from finding his body, i think david manages to get the upper hand at the end.

💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Aye this shit lit
So we can all agree that Cary won this fight, right?
I just realized the music is almost completely synthesized, which is virtually always a bad thing, but this is so good.
Was interested in learning more about this show and this is what I get? Wtf 🤔🤔🙄🤪🤕🤬🤭🧐🧐
Lol
Why tf is cary dancing too lol?
"Battle"
The sk totally ripped off his moves from the White Chicks in the movie White Chicks .
👍
Boogie down winners
