Antal Zalai is to the 21st century what Grumiaux and Oistrakh were to the the 20th century. Without a doubt, one of the world’s greatest violinists. He makes beautiful music out of a fiendishly difficult piece without drawing attention to himself. An authentic artist who refuses to use the music for ego or self aggrandizement. I have complete and total respect and admiration for Mr Zalai and wished he were more widely acclaimed, especially here in the United States. Best wishes and warm regards from sunny St. Petersburg, Florida (USA)!
Maestro Zalai is undoubtedly one of the best living violinists, he reminds me of the warm sound of Oistrakh, and the virtuosity of Kogan. An artist completely dedicated to music, without fanfare or eccentricities, which is abundant in modern violinists. Personally, I wish that he could tour the five continents to demonstrate his talent and that he would be recognized for the artistry that he shows in playing.
I couldn't agree more with Alex Saldarriage. Antal in his ultimate mastery of his craft is a throw back to the days of the old masters, Oistrakh in particular, so secure in his iron clad technique and execution. With a technique so good he makes the most fiendishly difficult music look and sound easy and without attracting attention to himself. In terms of sheer technical virtuosity he reminds me with Ruggeri Ricci, but these are 2 different players of 2 different eras. Antal is so different than any of todays young virtuosi, but that is not to say I don't enjoy the others, they can be exceptionally good at what they do in their own way!!
