Depends on you. Some QBs like the QB/WR pads like the version of the O2 flex. I thought the skill position version of my Armor Flex allowed for a higher range of motion and more protection.
I have only tested the pads in this video and the XV Flex -QB/WR. All the pads in this video and teh XV Flex I've worn are for receivers. It is personal preference and I go over the benefits to each in this video. Hope that helps you decide.
Depends on how tall you are. Asking me what pads are the best are like asking me what jeans are the best. Depends on what you like....As long as you have the right position it depends on personal preferences. My video goes over the differences to help you make your decision.
They both fit the way they are supposed to on me. My O2 flex are WR/QB pads and my Armor Flex are Skill Pads. Armor Flex does not come in QB/WR pads. I usually wear position QB/WR pads because I'm a DB and they are less restrictive. I ended up liking the Skill Position on the Armor Flex better. This pad is also meant for running backs and linebackers so yes it has a bigger flaps on the shoulders and comes down more on your chest.
They use all types. Schutt, Riddell, and Douglas brands are most popular. I'm not sure which pads he wears but the cut of his jersey will also make the pads look a certain way.
Each of those pads come in different positon specific cuts. Which position are you talking about. Protection will be the same if the positions are the same. Armor flex does not come in QB so that's why I compared these two. The other differences will be the same as this vid pretty much except XV doesn't have vapor windows.
You play a position I get that. Your pads are also for a certain position. Armour Flex comes in 3 different styles. It comes in a Skill Position and also an All-Purpose Position and also a Non Epaulet Position. Which one do you have?
In regards to sizing, I have found that the sizing is the same tho the fit is different. The right size Schutt pads may seem a little bigger than the right sized Riddell pads. This is ok. The important part is that when you lift up the shoulder flaps, the arch should be at the end of the shoulder. This is why I only go by shoulder size and ignore the chest size. The belts are long enough to fit any chest size.
I don't know which pad you are talking about but both pads in this video...just like every other pad on the market...are flat pads. Both these pads are very light as well.
Check out the QB/WR Schutt XV Flex or the Schutt Varsity Flex. Varsity Flex will be cheaper. Make sure you message your shoulders correctly at the right points and order the size that fits from anywhere online. Both are great pads that are not too much.
Depends on how tall you are and how far your shoulder pads come down at the back. Also depends on if you have a longer or shorter torso for your height. I would probably go 4 inches.
Both of these are light but you will need the ALl-Purpose Style PAd. I don't know how those two pads compare to each other in that style but you can't go wrong with the Armour Flex.
Any pad is going to be good as long as is for a DB. Pads come by position so you either want QB/WR pads which are for qbs, wideouts, corners and free safties usually or SKILL position pads which are for WR/RB/CB/SS/FS/LB. I haven't tried Riddell yet only Schutt. Schutt pads are a lot cheaper for the same caliber of pad.
I've had both, both are good. O2 flex is going to be lighter than XV flex. As a running back, I would get the All-Purpose version no matter which you decide to get.
Which O2 flex pads do you have? The ones in my video are WR/QB and the flaps don't fold down as much over my shoulder which make it look a little bigger than the Armor Flex I guess.
I would go with any "All-Purpose" position or with the two above the "Skill" position will work. All purpose will give you more protection over your sternum though
Both pads come in different positions. The ones in the video are QB/WR pads vs skill position pads. I compared these two because DBs often wear qb/wr pads.
Each Model of pads comes in position specific versions. So first you need to decide the model you want, then the style. I compare two different models of the same style more or less.
You can't really tell by feeling. The thinnest pads I have are actually the best I have tested to date in regards to feeling impact. They are so thin, I was afraid to even try them at first.
All purpose goes down further on your body. So it's not as light. Protects you more but at the expense of weight and free movement. All purpose is for running backs and linebackers fullbacks TE and all around. Skill pads are for the skill positions.
The skill position armor flex is the same as RB/WR. The all purpose pad which is also for running backs will cover more of your sternum and upper ribs than the Skill position.
@IKF...Third, in this 2012 Youth Air Maxx Flex...The internal padding cannot be removed from the plastic shell in any way for cleaning. The rivets also seem like they will not hold up over a long enough period of time.
@IKF...Second, in the protection, the internal padding seems high tech and very comfortable--but doesn't seem thick enough in key places. The plastic shell doesn't seem protective enough, especially for the sternum.
No they don't run big they just fit on your body differently...It's like comparing two different brands of jeans. Mine fit perfectly...measure you shoulder and chest and order that size. The correct way to measure your shoulder is put your arms up, measure the indentation in your shoulder (these are the measuring points) then put your arms down and use the distance from these points with your arms down. Measure your chest across your nipples and use Schutt's sizing chart for their pads.
If you have a tight jersey sometimes it will do it naturally. Otherwise you fold the jersey under the backplate so that at the sides, it will be pinched between the shoulders pads and the backplate.
I'm older and have a full time job that I can't afford to miss due to an injury so my preference is for picks 1st and then hits. I don't intentionally try to deliver bigs hits. That's how you miss tackles.
They are medium. Measure your shoulders properly to get the right fit. Check my "How to put on Football Equipment" video to see how they fit. You can also find more pics etc. on the I KNOW FOOTBALL facebook page.
Nice presentation young man! Very well articulated, great comparison points, and overall great presentation! I am also looking for info on the Armor Lite pads which seem to be the replacement for the Armor Flex.
I'm a firm believer that you can learn anything...They probably put you at DEnd because of your size and speed relative to others on your team. Sometimes you will have to play a position if you are good at multiple positions and others are only good at one position.
Maybe in another video..it's pretty easy though. The screws they give you just attach right to the back of the pad. Most people wear it too low. It should protect your lower back not your butt.
i made my decision thanks. ima go with the WR ones because football is like my job and i dont wanna miss any of it. Picks are always better than big hits also, but i guess i can make them once in a while. Thank you!
@IKF... First, the sizing doesn't seem to make sense. It seems like they make the shoulders too wide for the chest proportions. My son is 13 as of Sep 19, 2013 and his Riddell shoulder arc measurement is 16.5." His chest is 38." His Schutt shoulder measurement should be less than Riddell, since Schutt told me they measure straight across. These pads are for 16-17", but are 36-38" chest. They seem too wide.
@IKF...Fourth, on the Schutt 2012 Youth Air Maxx Flex, the TPU doesn't seem that special as Schutt describes it. Just a note also--I saw, touched, and tried on an older and the 2012 version of the Schutt Armour Flex. The padding on the older was not very padded. The 2012 was better, but not even nearly as padded as the other Schutt pads like the XV Flex.
Then an All-Purpose Pad is better for you. Both of the pads in this video come in all purpose. At your age, you probably need a youth version though so check the websites as both of these are for adults.
You should be running low so it's not as important as a QB who keeps his arms high but if you want the protection you can. Check out the Nike and EvoShield padded shirt reviews.
if you are a corner or receiver, where a padded compression shirt. Check out my video. The size depends on your shoulder width. You have to measure it.
Hey, I play wide receiver and I'm good at it. I was wondering what pads you could recommend me. I know I would have to pick skilled position (QB, WR) pads. Awesome vids. Keep it up. And also what back plate is the best and what height as in 4" 6" which one is better. Thanks
I really love your vids, they are very informative and helpful. i have a question.I play LB should I get the armor flex or Douglas nitro 56Z? I want mobility, range of motion and protection. Breathability is also an important factor. Please help! Thankyou very much!
The review covers everything. Try watching again. You are wearing All-Purpose Pads. Why are you wearing pads that arent for your position. No matter what model of pad you get if you get them as All-Purpose you won't have great mobility with your arms.
Neck size probably won't change much. You should have measure your shoulders and chest to get proper fitment. If you did that then that's all you can do besides get another pad.
Thanks for this review man, I can't find Armor lite reviews anywhere, thinking about copping the OL version without the shoulder stack, sounds pretty solid.
Depends on you. Some QBs like the QB/WR pads like the version of the O2 flex. I thought the skill position version of my Armor Flex allowed for a higher range of motion and more protection.
I haven't reviewed those yet, but I plan to before the end of the year. When does your season start?
I have only tested the pads in this video and the XV Flex -QB/WR. All the pads in this video and teh XV Flex I've worn are for receivers. It is personal preference and I go over the benefits to each in this video. Hope that helps you decide.
thanks Bro. I got these in October last year. My cousin and friend ordered theirs two months ago and don't have the shiny pads either.
Depends on how tall you are. Asking me what pads are the best are like asking me what jeans are the best. Depends on what you like....As long as you have the right position it depends on personal preferences. My video goes over the differences to help you make your decision.
The best pad I've played in so far are the Armor Flex. I have tried the O2 Flex and the XV Flex. I will try more in the future though.
I prefer the Armor Flex for the added protection in front and back. It feels really good once broken in. I got used to the bigger epaulets.
I did...You can try Sports Unlimited or Sports Depot. Make you get you order for your position and your size.
Try the Schutt XV Flex in the QB/WR Position...those are for corners but don't offer as much protection.
They use all types. Schutt, Riddell, and Douglas brands are most popular. I'm not sure which pads he wears but the cut of his jersey will also make the pads look a certain way.
Either should work. I was playing at professional level and used the Armour Flex because I like how it felt. I have not tried the Air Flex.
I have another full-time job, but I've had about 3 or 4 shoulder pads over my 2 year career so far.
Each of those pads come in different positon specific cuts. Which position are you talking about. Protection will be the same if the positions are the same. Armor flex does not come in QB so that's why I compared these two. The other differences will be the same as this vid pretty much except XV doesn't have vapor windows.
Are you a hitter or do you go for picks?
You play a position I get that. Your pads are also for a certain position. Armour Flex comes in 3 different styles. It comes in a Skill Position and also an All-Purpose Position and also a Non Epaulet Position. Which one do you have?
In regards to sizing, I have found that the sizing is the same tho the fit is different. The right size Schutt pads may seem a little bigger than the right sized Riddell pads. This is ok. The belts are long enough to fit any chest size.
@Sachit Dhiman I like the XV flex for quarterbacks. Get the QB version of it.
Yes but it comes in different styles for different positions. All purpose armor flex or skill Armour flex will be best for those.
Both of these are light but you will need the ALl-Purpose Style PAd. I don't know how those two pads compare to each other in that style but you can't go wrong with the Armour Flex.
Any pad is going to be good as long as is for a DB. I've had both, both are good. O2 flex is going to be lighter than XV flex. As a running back, I would get the All-Purpose version no matter which you decide to get.
Whichever helmet you get, you should get a we facemask and skill position pads. Visor is necessary if your concerned about getting poked in the eye.
What model did you get?
I'm trying to get those two. I actually may need new shoulder pads this year.
Which O2 flex pads do you have? The ones in my video are WR/QB and the flaps don't fold down as much over my shoulder which make it look a little bigger than the Armor Flex I guess.
@HammerSam1 you should check your shoulder size and order off of that instead of chest size.
I would go with any "All-Purpose" position or with the two above the "Skill" position will work. All purpose will give you more protection over your sternum though
I hear ya...I will do the review and post it by Thursday morning. I have to use the talons a couple times to give an accurate in depth review.
I have not worn the Riddell pads. What position did you wear in the armour flex that you couldn't raise your arms?
What position in the pads I mean? Did you have the Skill position? All-Purpose position? Have you ever used another pad?
Both pads come in different positions. The ones in the video are QB/WR pads vs skill position pads. I compared these two because DBs often wear qb/wr pads.
Check out the Schutt Sports site. They have a lineman specific version of the Armor Flex that is specifically for Lineman
Cool videos man, really helpful for new comers buying their own kit. What pads do/did you wear now?
Soon my friend. Very soon. They may it may not have been in that big box of stuff I recieved a couple weeks ago.
What disappointed you about then when you saw them?
I have not tested the Douglas pads..
@IKF...Second, in the protection, the internal padding seems high tech and very comfortable--but doesn't seem thick enough in key places. The plastic shell doesn't seem protective enough, especially for the sternum.
Never heard of mid flex but the xv flex is a very good pad.
For a great cheap pad, I like the Schutt XV Flex.
All pads come in a variety of positions. RBs can either where All-Purpose of Skill Position Pads.
I can't remember but I did put it in the video. I think around $160 maybe.
If you have a tight jersey sometimes it will do it naturally. Otherwise you fold the jersey under the backplate so that at the sides, it will be pinched between the shoulders pads and the backplate.
I totally agree on the neck space.
Depends on time of year but I do something different each day really. Check the training playlist on my channel.
I wear a schutt back plate...Riddell's can be found on their website.
A back plate is cheaper than the padded shirt but a shirt will provide rib protection. I wouldn't wear a flac jacket that's overkill.
What do you mean?
Currently testing the Riddell Power CLS. Check the unboxing video.
I'm older and have a full time job that I can't afford to miss due to an injury so my preference is for picks 1st and then hits. I don't intentionally try to deliver bigs hits. That's how you miss tackles.
Thanks, Looking forward to it, my NikeID version is on it's way, so i'm curious to see how you like them.
Thomas Rodriguez I haven't tested the Armor Lite pads but yes it is the replacement
recruit hybrid uses foam liner while the dna pro+ uses an air liner.
They are nice. I've used them and liked them.
I'm a firm believer that you can learn anything...They probably put you at DEnd because of your size and speed relative to others on your team. Sometimes you will have to play a position if you are good at multiple positions and others are only good at one position.
Its also not about weight its about size. I'm 6'1 200 lbs and i like size medium. My cousin is 5"10 190 and he wears a large. You have to measure.
Yes they do.
My school has Riddell and Shutt helemts and shoulder pads. I wore the O2 Flex. They were really good pads.
You can do whatever you put your mind to.
I'm looking into doing some soon.
I think they made some small changes and changed the name. The design is a little different (uglier) but hopefully they are more durable.
Each pad comes in specific models for each position.
Maybe in another video..it's pretty easy though. The screws they give you just attach right to the back of the pad. Most people wear it too low. It should protect your lower back not your butt.
Nice video bruh, real helpful! Would you be able to do a quick clip with both pads on with a jersey over the top?
i made my decision thanks. ima go with the WR ones because football is like my job and i dont wanna miss any of it. Picks are always better than big hits also, but i guess i can make them once in a while. Thank you!
Doesn't answer my question. What positions are your pads not what position to you play.
For safety I would go with the Armor Flex, better for hitting.
I havent tried either of those
thank you. Now as a corner myself you think i should get the all purpose, skilled position, or the QB/ WR ones?
I do not know the difference but the Armour Lite replaced the Armour Flex
@IKF...Fourth, on the Schutt 2012 Youth Air Maxx Flex, the TPU doesn't seem that special as Schutt describes it. Just a note also--I saw, touched, and tried on an older and the 2012 version of the Schutt Armour Flex. The padding on the older was not very padded. The 2012 was better, but not even nearly as padded as the other Schutt pads like the XV Flex.
I do not unfortunately.
Then an All-Purpose Pad is better for you. Both of the pads in this video come in all purpose. At your age, you probably need a youth version though so check the websites as both of these are for adults.
I play semi-pro and arena football. So everyone is 18 and over. There is everyone from Ex-highschool players to Ex-nfl players in both leagues.
I like sports unlimited or sports depot. Try googling tho.
You should be running low so it's not as important as a QB who keeps his arms high but if you want the protection you can. Check out the Nike and EvoShield padded shirt reviews.
if you are a corner or receiver, where a padded compression shirt. Check out my video. The size depends on your shoulder width. You have to measure it.

nope, i look around till I find a site that has some in stock
Yes you can.
Peace man,
i love your Videos! good Job man!
But I have a question, what do you think about the idea to put a gopro camera in a helmet( rdl 360).
I really love your vids, they are very informative and helpful. i have a question.I play LB should I get the armor flex or Douglas nitro 56Z? I want mobility, range of motion and protection. Breathability is also an important factor. Please help! Thankyou very much!
Arena and semi-pro in Chicago
Glad I could help!
The review covers everything. Try watching again. You are wearing All-Purpose Pads. Why are you wearing pads that arent for your position. No matter what model of pad you get if you get them as All-Purpose you won't have great mobility with your arms.

Possibly in the future.
I can't remember cuz I don't have those pads anymore.
Thanks for this review man, I can't find Armor lite reviews anywhere, thinking about copping the OL version without the shoulder stack, sounds pretty solid.
That's what up. Let me know how you like em.
