there is something beautifully tragic about these desires. Like what if none of these people were twisted? what if things were better? what if Akira (ren) was never there? would they perhaps have led better lives? Akira knows the truth but at the same time these friends of his seem so happy with their desires coming to fruition I almost would hesitate in his shoes to change the world that made them so happy despite knowing it was not reality.
Out of all of them, I think Futaba's and Yusuke's hurt the most. Futaba specifically asked for the lies to stop decieving her and Yusuke wanted to seperate truth from lies. The palaces not only were close to them for a long time: Futaba's shut-in life and Yusuke literally growing up next to the corruption, but were a literal part of their personality. In a similar way, Haru's is sad. And to AkiRen, the memories he made of trusting his allies and fighting in palaces not only dissapear...but the effort is lost, all his progress and efforts made worthless. The reason this reality hurts is because we know the truth. It's the same pain of seeing a friend wholeheartedly believe a lie. It's fake and is just painful. They wanted to believe in lies because it offered a life away from pain. Like how you might play Animal Crossing to forget about your real life, they wanted to pretend everything was alright, they put back on the mask of society to be 'happy'. They believed in the fake reality the same way the people believed in that fake god.
Yusuke basically falls back to before he opened his eyes and became a Phantom Thief. Averting his eyes again. (Granted in this case Madarame isn’t evil and it happened in a way where he didn’t give active consent when it would happen, but that’s probably how he felt when he finally snapped out of it and would apologize for in his third awakening)
The most depressing one for me would be Brojiro. He easily is my favorite character in the game, and I believe him to have the best Confidant as well. To see him trapped in such a bliss, but cruel reality is just awful to watch. Maybe I just has a softspot for Uncle like figures who take in troubled teenagers, and try to raise them well(Uncle Phil,Uncle Iroh)
Funny you bring up Iroh. I was watching JohneAwesome's playthrough of the original Persona 5 around the same time I was watching Avatar. One night, my brain decided to cross over the two properties, and I actually found it easy to do so, because many of the characters have a lot of similarities, plus they have similar art styles. Your comparison between Sojiro and Iroh is one that my mind thought of almost immediately. It's now my most wanted crossover, and I've thought of a lot of stuff for it, including Palaces, Persona awakenings, and more.
I like the details of the npcs gradually getting more and more confused about reality, since so many of their wishes conflict with each other. Like one person wanting to quit their job while their boss wants production to increase, meaning the employee has to still be working. Neat details
Nobody: The title: "Everyone's desires ENGLISH" Me: Well, they all live in Japan, and Japanese people usually learn English as a second language so the title makes sense.
Maruki gotta update his reality 😂 I would love to see that patch notes, it'll probably be: "Bringing Dead People back, fulfilling healthy desires and updates to weather.
Probably cause Morgana keeps the same voice in japanese they didn't bother on making a new code for a human morgana npc, making it impossible to the translation team to change the voice lines cause there is no voice file to change
I saw it as another form of distortion between the real reality and this alternate one. Kind of like the messages you see on the loading screen where people seem utterly confused on what was going on with other people.
It would've been awesome if the same could be done with every confidant that the player was able to get to Rank 10. Of course, they would be optional. It really bothered me when neither Sojiro or Sae react at all to what Joker said (I guess it's because they don't have Personas, but it still would've been great to see what each confidant's ideal realities would look like). It's also weird how there's little to no conflict of interest (I guess Maruki filters which wishes are more acceptable, like a wish that someone died is unacceptable so another wish that has no conflict is fulfilled) 7:33 - Also, a dog died last year...
27:38 notice how akechi’s sad/disappointed face is used here as he describes how he’ll live how he wants until the end. Also consider how he tried to move past how he escaped death. Ryuji says it best that Akechi knew he’d die if he escaped this reality. Him wanting to not talk about how he escaped was a pretty big clue but this face panel and line slipped past me the first time I watched this part of the game. Very subtle atlas
This section of the game feels so wrong... in a good way. You really feel alone going through the week and seeing your teammates live perfect lives with only you and Akechi remembering the old reality. Everyone is doing great, and it feels like their character arcs were somewhat negated by this new reality. It even feels off to walk around without Morgana in your bag. The reality you fought for and against, the reality you worked so hard to improve and liberate, right back under someone else's control. You know this isn't how it's supposed to be, but they look so happy...
This part of the game hurt, and honestly only strengthened my resolve to kick Makuki's ass. Forcing the Thieves to relive their trauma by handing them what could've been, instead of doing his job as a counselor and helping them get past it.
This reminds me of that one Batman TAS episode with Bruce living the life he always wanted, his parents are alive, he's found love, and someone else is doing his job defending the city. However in the end it was revealed to be a dream created for him by the Mad Hatter and none of it was real.
What's funny is that I just realized all the main cast are orphans in some way: (idk enough about Kasumi) Joker/Akira/Ren: His parents abandoned him after he was put on probation Morgana: Is abandoned, and does not realize his purpose until Mementos is finished Ryuji: His dad abandoned him and his mom Ann: Her parents are always traveling, so she never sees them Yusuke: His mother died, and he isn't with Madarame anymore, his foster father and mentor figure Makoto: Her parents are both dead, with Sae having to take care of both of them Futaba: Her mother is dead, and Sojiro is her foster father Haru: Her father is dead (probably her mom too, but idk really know) Akechi: His mother is dead, and his father plotted to kill him
Fiery Tiger Gaming That’s true, but at the same time you don’t really know much about her mom’s status. On top of that, she is exclusive to P5R, meaning that she may not fit this archetype of orphans I described for Vanilla P5
this is so deep, it's genuinely fcking with my head like what would I do if I had a choice between living in a cognition I wanted where I was happy vs reality
Yeah, it seemed like Makoto was able to see through the illusion more easily than the others even if she fell through anyways. Well, she is the most analytical and observant member of the team besides Joker. But strangely, there was no mention of Sae being unemployed in that world like it said on the wikia even though their dad is mentioned to be alive. And is it just me, or is Makoto wearing a black skirt and tights even though I thought she doesn't like wearing skirts in her off time.
It's probably because Makoto's revised reality has the biggest number of contradictions. Her father's death had big effects on both her and Sae's personality, yet both of them seem to be pretty much the same person. Sae also seems to retain her position as head prosecutor but is still able to come back home on time to eat dinner with her family. Finally, Makoto would have never become such close friends to the Phantom Thieves without the Kaneshiro incident. Haru and Joker share interests in coffee/cafes and she has the Gardening Club. Yusuke would have met the gang at the art gallery they went to. Morgana and Futaba are in close proximity to Joker while Ann and Ryuji seem like the type to become friends anyway. Makoto's the outlier in this case.
Bruh its almost like the phantom thieves are just becoming like the npcs that walk around. Like they're becoming a thing they refused to become. Succumbing to their owm desires. And joker and akechi are the two wild cards.
Yo OP just wanted to let you know I kept coming back to this video when writing my fic. I must've been like 20% of the views on this. I don't comment much on UA-cam videos but this one is just so useful to me that I had to say my thanks! Hope you're doing good :-)
IDK which one would get me to mentally crack; I'd prob say Haru or Futaba because their parents got revived in the illusion, and they have trauma about it, and seeing dead people alive kinda doesn't sit that well with me 😅😅😒
Personally, while I do agree with you, I also think Makoto's dad being alive as well to be a bit cruel. He died in the line of duty, according to the game. That caused Sae to grow distorted, but it's exactly that why she and Makoto got along much better afterwards. Not only that, but dying on duty is meant to be held with honor, right? Like... Not in vain. Bringing him back could be an insult to him (although we never see him). But... Tbf, ANYONE brought back to life stands equal there. I like the alternate reality, but it's, in my opinion, a more cruel one.
Yeah...when someone your love is gone but that is obstacles if keep going and is pain but that give you will keep forwards path of live by you will. reality, that is bad as same as by using drugs. It keep happiness by your own desire but not way in life. painful and sadnesses is the key of happiness in your life. Ps i am not good in english
What about it is bad gameplay wise? I thought it was brilliant roaming around the new reality and being able to see how conversations and people have changed as you visit your friends. The music and warping screen just adds to the atmosphere. Forcing you to walk around like this is great world building considering by this point you’ve already spent 90+ hours in the old reality. Unless you have 0 idea how to use a map, I have no clue how this would be bad. The game literally has markers on your mini map as well.
I have to oppose Takuto. Why? If something goes wrong or that power turn him evil, we need multiple eject buttons. Plus there's no way to keep everyone from recalling their past memories is a problem.
If this reality affected everyone, would the p3 and p4 crews be affected as well? I can imagine that S.E.E.S would want to see door-kun and Shinjiro. The Investigation team back in Inaba together.
@@TelikiMouse If you match the dates P5 takes place in 2016 and now with Royal at the beginning of 2017, but with what I grasped about this deal my thought is that in this reality P3MC is alive along with Shinjiro, and most likely the Investigation Team is hanging together with Yu living permanently in Inaba (much like Joker in one of the "bad" endings)
Maruki used the personal and confidential details of each Phantom Thief's life that he invited with welcome arms to manipulate them into accepting a reality he creates and controls. That is fucked up.
I know the focus is on the desires that Maruki gave the Phantom Thieves, as it should be, but I can't help but wonder if the other confidants have any unique lines durign this period? I mean, you can kidna see it with Sojiro I suppose but I mean more like, say, Iwai, Yoshida, or Takemi.
@@iskoconquers Fair enough but, well, it'd still have been a nice touch, wouldn't you agree? Doesn't even have to be anything big or whatnot, like, say, one of those news dialogue about Yoshida or watnot for example.
This is probably the hardest decision in the entire game. Not only you'd ruin their almost perfect peaceful lives, you'll force them to return the real shitty world that everyone despises. Makes you feel like you're the real villain here
It didn't really came off as hard for me though. I feel like a villain if I choose to let them live their lives in that lie. Its even crueler to deny the developments and efforts that the character has already made and lose it all due to a selfish reason like 'They're happy, I don't want to ruin it'. The one that got to me is Akechi, since he went through the shitter throughout his entire life, he deserves a second chance with his first true friend, Ren. Made me cry a river during during his evolved persona state
@@secretscarlet8249 Other Phantom Thieves? Well, non-Shujin aren't in this scene. If you mean others in general, you could eavesdrop and see what they say in other places.
I believe that the thing that started to snap them out of it was that not only were they because of their bonds with joker, but because in truth they were also going against what they truly believed in on inside. You could say that it is their personas trying to remind them why they became phantom thieves in the first place.
Okay I have a question, how the hell are Sojiro and Wakaba not dating, it's been established that Sojiro used be in love with Wakaba, but gave up because none of his hoo boy tricks would work on her, and Futaba ends up saying to Joker that Wakaba "really liked" Sojiro. That and they work so well together. It's just I would've loved to see more interactions between those two because they're so damn nice together.
It's a good thing they broke through this reality. What could have happened if Maruki's heart became even more twisted as the years of loneliness goes by? All of reality would then be affected
Can you imagine the story if this was the world it was set in? I mean, the only story Palaces in this version of the world would have been Kaneshiro’s, Shido’s and Mementos. Maybe it’s just me, but can you imagine P5 and P5R by extension only having these three Palaces? I certainly can’t.
The only reason I agree with Maruki is simply because I to would perform the same things on the world in P5R. Though I wouldn't screw around with people's brains for stupid reason. Messed with people's brains only to make them better happier
Futabas is rough mostly because she straight up asks you to tell her what’s wrong as if she already knows but is scared. Makoto for me was pretty rough to because how she responds seems to suggest she knows something doesn’t quite add up.
While their confidants are normal, talking to shopkeepers like Iwai, Takemi, and Chifune have them all point out how everyone seems so happy and chipper - eerily so. It seems so far, they've escaped Maruki's world.
Does his research become finished whether you max out his rank or not? I feel like Joker was a massive impact on him finding out about the Metaverse and Mementos.
If you don't max out his rank you get the normal P5 ending, so I'm assuming that his research doesn't finish in that case. I think you also need to max out Akachi and Kasumi to be able to get to thrid semaster and all that.

I put in his place I would agree with akechi a reality under someone else's control is not worth living.
I'm sorry but that animal crossing bit got me and I couldn't take the rest of the comment seriously 😂
Wow... That sounds depressing.
I wonder how life was before you were paying off debt to a freakin' raccoon...
@@fierce6140 excuse me, tanuki
The Impersonator Uncle Ben
Dojima
Funny you bring up Iroh. I was watching JohneAwesome's playthrough of the original Persona 5 around the same time I was watching Avatar. One night, my brain decided to cross over the two properties, and I actually found it easy to do so, because many of the characters have a lot of similarities, plus they have similar art styles. Your comparison between Sojiro and Iroh is one that my mind thought of almost immediately. It's now my most wanted crossover, and I've thought of a lot of stuff for it, including Palaces, Persona awakenings, and more.
Apocalypso
There’s always fanfics.....
I like the details of the npcs gradually getting more and more confused about reality, since so many of their wishes conflict with each other. Like one person wanting to quit their job while their boss wants production to increase, meaning the employee has to still be working. Neat details
That and people starting to question each other like "I thought you hated that job?" shows that the whole thing would eventually fall apart anyway.
The fandom: Akechi isn't a real detective!
Akechi: *Literally investigates Maruki and in a week was able to dig up a lot on his own*
Well he did commit a lot a corrupt things
Nobody:
The title: "Everyone's desires ENGLISH"
Me: Well, they all live in Japan, and Japanese people usually learn English as a second language so the title makes sense.
1:16 ryuji:THAT'S MY LINE
Morgana has a new “human” voice but his little clips still use the old one. Creepy
Ryuji : it’s winter break still.
Ryuji : *is wearing sleeveless.... thing*
Me : yeah sounds fine, warm and cozy. Maruki kinda messed up in the seasons patching.
Maruki gotta update his reality 😂 I would love to see that patch notes, it'll probably be: "Bringing Dead People back, fulfilling healthy desires and updates to weather.
Lil Star XO Maruki patch notes but vocoded
Why is morgana’s voice his cat voice when he’s an npc and a human in cutscenes make it one or the other
Probably cause Morgana keeps the same voice in japanese they didn't bother on making a new code for a human morgana npc, making it impossible to the translation team to change the voice lines cause there is no voice file to change
I saw it as another form of distortion between the real reality and this alternate one.
Kind of like the messages you see on the loading screen where people seem utterly confused on what was going on with other people.
I saw it as his cognition going out of wack, going back to his morgana voice
It would've been awesome if the same could be done with every confidant that the player was able to get to Rank 10.
Of course, they would be optional. It really bothered me when neither Sojiro or Sae react at all to what Joker said (I guess it's because they don't have Personas, but it still would've been great to see what each confidant's ideal realities would look like).
It's also weird how there's little to no conflict of interest (I guess Maruki filters which wishes are more acceptable, like a wish that someone died is unacceptable so another wish that has no conflict is fulfilled)
7:33 - Also, a dog died last year...
Just thinking of how Ryuji becomes crippled again after accepting reality.
well yeah, I'm pretty sure that part of his wish was for Kamoshida to never have interfered with the track team (Or even TEACH there)
*Ren:* Okay, some things are definitely wrong here! I’m not sure, but... Did it first start when Akechi took my place to testify against Shido...?
It’s like a lucid dream where you can have everything you ever wanted, but it isn’t real and you have to wake up eventually.
Morgana loses all acceptance of reality in order to simp for ann
This part of the game hurt, and honestly only strengthened my resolve to kick Makuki's ass. Forcing the Thieves to relive their trauma by handing them what could've been, instead of doing his job as a counselor and helping them get past it.
Like John Proctor in The Crucible. I'd rather die an honest man than live on as a liar
0:04 "If theres pay ill think about it" *Most players have Around 2 Million+ Yen*
This reminds me of that one Batman TAS episode with Bruce living the life he always wanted, his parents are alive, he's found love, and someone else is doing his job defending the city. However in the end it was revealed to be a dream created for him by the Mad Hatter and none of it was real.
I know facing the painful reality can hurt like helll... even for the Phantom Thieves.
What's funny is that I just realized all the main cast are orphans in some way: (idk enough about Kasumi)
Joker/Akira/Ren: His parents abandoned him after he was put on probation
Morgana: Is abandoned, and does not realize his purpose until Mementos is finished
Ryuji: His dad abandoned him and his mom
Ann: Her parents are always traveling, so she never sees them
Yusuke: His mother died, and he isn't with Madarame anymore, his foster father and mentor figure
Makoto: Her parents are both dead, with Sae having to take care of both of them
Futaba: Her mother is dead, and Sojiro is her foster father
Haru: Her father is dead (probably her mom too, but idk really know)
Akechi: His mother is dead, and his father plotted to kill him
it's hard to say on that front, since you meet Kasumi(re)'s dad on new years day
Fiery Tiger Gaming That’s true, but at the same time you don’t really know much about her mom’s status. On top of that, she is exclusive to P5R, meaning that she may not fit this archetype of orphans I described for Vanilla P5
As I watched every one of the Phantom Thieves get their happy endings, I watched and couldn't help but feel... betrayed.
I don't have a PS4, and your videos are a lifesaver. Thank you for the uploads, and keep up the great work, man!
Glad you enjoy them :)
this is so deep, it's genuinely fcking with my head like what would I do if I had a choice between living in a cognition I wanted where I was happy vs reality
kinda depressing, crushing all their dreams for a greater cause
12:15
Something's not right here..
the voice
AKIHIKO GOT HIM!
Same energy as Akihiko and Mitsuru
In the distance, you can hear something.
Did you see that *Shinji* ?
Honestly Morgana's progression still hits hard even if it's not as emotional as the scenes with the others
@@mrex666productions7 Never mind. It's gone.
I like how the color of the date and weather is inverted because its a fake reality
Faz is quickly become my favorite youtuber, he uploaded every scenerio I want to see
the date font in this reality is too perfect, too ideal
I like it more than the original just for the aesthetics.
Bruh its almost like the phantom thieves are just becoming like the npcs that walk around. Like they're becoming a thing they refused to become. Succumbing to their owm desires. And joker and akechi are the two wild cards.
Thanks for the uploads! I sold my ps4 without even knowing this came out. Biggest regret of my life
My poor baby Yusuke he still wants madarame to be a good person best boi :(((
Man, Yusuke, Haru and Futaba were so heartbreaking
Yo OP just wanted to let you know I kept coming back to this video when writing my fic. I must've been like 20% of the views on this. I don't comment much on UA-cam videos but this one is just so useful to me that I had to say my thanks! Hope you're doing good :-)
That’s really sweet
HMV?! Like the British store ?! It's the same colour font and everything, how did they get in this?
IDK which one would get me to mentally crack; I'd prob say Haru or Futaba because their parents got revived in the illusion, and they have trauma about it, and seeing dead people alive kinda doesn't sit that well with me 😅😅😒
Makoto's dad died in reality as well right?
Oh...don't forget yusuke's mother
Sorry,i meaning painting sayuri
Story wise this part was pretty great.
Gameplay wise this week was the worst part of the damn game.
Fast travel would fix this.
When I saw Futaba back with her mom again, I knew that I just couldn't change things back to normal.
As far as I know persona 5 takes place after the events of 3 and 4. As shown in pq2 it's been some time since persona 4.
PMC3 lives to adulthood and gets a job
a future to look forward to
Was I the only one who realized he chose the first option for everyone except Makoto, he chose "I'll be waiting for you" for her lol
(Reads title) makes sense
Maruki used the personal and confidential details of each Phantom Thief's life that he invited with welcome arms to manipulate them into accepting a reality he creates and controls.
That is fucked up.
I'm sorry Morgana but a reality where you aren't in my bag is not one I want
I know the focus is on the desires that Maruki gave the Phantom Thieves, as it should be, but I can't help but wonder if the other confidants have any unique lines durign this period? I mean, you can kidna see it with Sojiro I suppose but I mean more like, say, Iwai, Yoshida, or Takemi.
Kawakami... Mishima... Oda...Iwai...
Its easy to interpret their desires after knowing their stories...
@@iskoconquers Fair enough but, well, it'd still have been a nice touch, wouldn't you agree? Doesn't even have to be anything big or whatnot, like, say, one of those news dialogue about Yoshida or watnot for example.
@@Deserit
True
Their confidants are normal, but talking to them normally, the note how eerily chipper and happy everyone is.
Made me cry a river during during his evolved persona state
@@yusaika Same, Akechi should've lived in the True Ending
@@hairglowingkyle4572 Did you see the post-credit scene where he walks by with two guys in black suits
@@Kagetora- Ofc I know. Could be him, could be not, we never know.
@@hairglowingkyle4572 I think it's definitely him.
Just them? What about the other confidants?
Well, Sojiro and Sae did not have any reaction.
@@KikuraKunI mean how about the others? It'll be nice to see their desires.
@@secretscarlet8249 Other Phantom Thieves? Well, non-Shujin aren't in this scene. If you mean others in general, you could eavesdrop and see what they say in other places.
Hearing Shiho's happy "bye" with bright eyes makes my heart hurt...
This reality is strange
I believe that the thing that started to snap them out of it was that not only were they because of their bonds with joker, but because in truth they were also going against what they truly believed in on inside. You could say that it is their personas trying to remind them why they became phantom thieves in the first place.
Maruki really be casting Infinite Tsukuyomi on us here
I was kinda expecting Ryuji's to be a harem.
Its like making hard choice of Living a happy fantasy or Facing the sad reality..
I always think the dream reality is actually a glimpse to parallel universe where everything is ok for the Phantom thieves.....
1:16-3:35 just makes me want to get a confident for Shiho more
Okay I have a question, how the hell are Sojiro and Wakaba not dating, it's been established that Sojiro used be in love with Wakaba, but gave up because none of his hoo boy tricks would work on her, and Futaba ends up saying to Joker that Wakaba "really liked" Sojiro. That and they work so well together. It's just I would've loved to see more interactions between those two because they're so damn nice together.
So, for one week, Ren gets up, heads to see a friend, then comes back.
Could they not have programmed us to do other things?
It's a good thing they broke through this reality. What could have happened if Maruki's heart became even more twisted as the years of loneliness goes by? All of reality would then be affected
One by one, we fall deeper
These are kids who just wish to have their parents/parental figures back. They do not deserve to have to apologise.
I let you know that if you accept this reality, you've played the game for nothing.
Man this is so perfect but fuck up at the same time everybody is happy but doesnt feel right
Can you imagine the story if this was the world it was set in? I mean, the only story Palaces in this version of the world would have been Kaneshiro’s, Shido’s and Mementos. Maybe it’s just me, but can you imagine P5 and P5R by extension only having these three Palaces? I certainly can’t.
22:56 my baby boy ;A;
Are you calling yourself Baby boy yusuke?
This just looks like something coming from Persona 5 Scramble instead of Vanilla Persona 5.
The only reason I agree with Maruki is simply because I to would perform the same things on the world in P5R. Though I wouldn't screw around with people's brains for stupid reason. Messed with people's brains only to make them better happier
*Talking with confidants*
Me: "They seem to be happy"
*Sees flashback*
Me: "GAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!"
Seeing this reality is really heart breaking
When it comes to exposing the truth to the Phantom Thieves, I think I really hated doing it to Yusuke and Futaba the most....
Futabas is rough mostly because she straight up asks you to tell her what’s wrong as if she already knows but is scared. Makoto for me was pretty rough to because how she responds seems to suggest she knows something doesn’t quite add up.
The real way they could have twisted the knife in this?
Sae would be romancable.
Was Joker just running in the overworld?
Yup p5r you can also do the same in mementos
11:32 even in Japan people have to much homework lol
Human Morgana is a big mistake. Now he's just a simp. I'd rather be a cute cat than a simp.

Morgana's colour scheme reminds me of Ryoji and that scares me deeply
That's quite the funny joke it makes me want to puke
Faz-senpai, can you show how the other confidants (adults, etc.) fare in this fake reality?
Aren’t these the only one’s tho
@@FazPersona I wouldn't know. No P5R for me in this quarantine! :D
Not even eavesdropping would reveal stuff then?
While their confidants are normal, talking to shopkeepers like Iwai, Takemi, and Chifune have them all point out how everyone seems so happy and chipper - eerily so. It seems so far, they've escaped Maruki's world.
@@TheRaginAsian thank you for that answer. I've been waiting for it. :)
Is it just me or do I hear a bit of "I'll Face Myself" in the music?
What’s the song called in the beginning of this video?
Does his research become finished whether you max out his rank or not? I feel like Joker was a massive impact on him finding out about the Metaverse and Mementos.
If you don't max out his rank you get the normal P5 ending, so I'm assuming that his research doesn't finish in that case. I think you also need to max out Akachi and Kasumi to be able to get to thrid semaster and all that.
@@Sunnyboy-ob4xz No, you just get locked out of Hereward (Akechi's 3rd tier) and Sumire's confidant (Faith Part 2)
