Doopliss was probably the greatest boss. Unlike other Mario bosses, this one was truly a boss against Mario, as he retained all of the original Mario's abilities and didn't use some weird magical nonsense. In addition, since he looked almost exactly like Mario, and the original Mario looking like a shadowy clone of himself, it seemed like a battle of villain versus hero, with you on the villain's side.

One of the things I like about Mario boss fights is you never fight Mario because obviously he is the hero and one of the characters you play as but someone who is imitating him or in the case of Dreamy Mario an alternate version of him. Really the only exception is Donkey Kong Jr. That's actually Mario or if you believe certain theories, his father.
Both fights with doopliss are by far some of my favorite fights in the paper Mario series, I love the music, the character development of Vivian, and the fact that this person didn't just copy your body, but completely switched places with you in the process and stole you identity and your allies. It's such a brilliant concept. And I know I've already said it but I love the doopliss battle theme!
Man I REALLY wish there was a Dreamy Mario X fight, oh well, I'll just hope for it when they do the Dream Team Remake for the Nintendo console for 2033

I'm not sure if Belome counts as a Mario fight since the chances of Belome cloning Mario are 1 in 3. Besides, you can't even deal damage to the clones.
you forgot two of them: 1- Super smash bros brawl: In the great maze you must defeat a doppelganger of every character (including a Mario doppleganger) 2- Super smash bros for Wii u: The final boss (shadow core), mimic the player´s character in one of his forms, so if you play as Mario, it transform into a shadow Mario.
Personally I like paper mario the best is just had very unique characters that are not in any other mario games like dark peach well the only other game that dark peach is in is super smash brothers but paper mario is still unique

the cosmic mario thing made it's debut in rayman (1995). where cosmic rayman copies 3 seconds of your moves and touching him = instant death
