This will be the best way for me to tell you but I'm taking my classes now to start my career in Law enforcement! I want to go into SWAT work as well!!!
I am a paramedic, been working for 25+ years. I was once on a scene of a DUI/MVC (motor vehicle collision for those of you not familiar with the abbreviation). No major injuries or major property damage. I will never forget the PD speaking with the suspected DUI driver. The suspect was very polite and respectful and just as obviously drunk. The PD began to administer the field sobriety test and asked the suspect : "Sir, place your feet together and walk this white line one foot after the other", the suspect responded (very politely) " I will Officer. As soon as it stops moving"
Even the cop had a good chuckle at that one.

I actually got paid to get drunk one time. My department needed to send someone to the academy to be a training subject for DUI/ OWI testing. So they drove me up there, paid me $15/hr to drink beers, and do field sobriety tests every 30 minutes. I don't think I've ever been that drunk in my life. There was some Sergeant who kept saying "have another beer". They gave me a ride home, thank Christ, because they got me fucked-in-half-drunk. I, no shit, forgot how my fucking face worked.

I have lived in La Crosse for decades. What is going on is that we used to be in the Guinness Book or World Records for most bars per capita. On top of that, we have 2 universities and a huge technical college in a city of 52K people. We no longer have the world record, but there is a lot of stupid here.

Yea there a couple dozen campuses in the area between Lacrosse, wi. and Winona, mn. along the river, Plus the already mentioned zillion bars. Eau claire and the twin cities aren't too far away either with a ton more campuses. The roads and highways up and down the river around there are full of drunk college kids.
Basically it’s Wisconsin. Since the record for most bars per capita was in Cudahy, and other Wisconsin towns. This is a little to common in the state.

The kid seems polite and respectful. It’s a shame the decisions he’s making are going to make his life very difficult.
Hopefully he learned his lesson and thank God no one was hurt.
Its a shame the system doest offer something other than life altering consequences for poor decisions when your young look at alll the young men with felonies that cant get regular jobs so they are now forced into lives of criminal behaviour to survive

I actually went to school with him, I was a freshman when he was a senior. I had a study hall with him and thought he was the coolest guy because he rode a “cool” motorcycle. Everyone now at my school knows about this and it’d super funny

The people here worship the kid as a hero for some reason. It was surreal to see a student get punished for saying "he did it to himself". Not "he deserved it", but "he did it to himself"

And that was one of the most poorly conducted HGN tests I’ve seen. Officer kept starting and stopping, re-explaining to the subject, repeating the same portion of the test multiple times, much more and I haven’t done an SFST since 2013!

Kid is toasted, both sides. He may think he had a really shitty night, but he's lucky. No serious injuries and he got a chilled cop who's vehicle he trashed. End of all this, everybody got to walk away.
Kid would have been a lot better off if he hadn't said anything. Without him talking, there's no way the cop knows conclusively that he just smoked weed and took Xanax, among other things. Certainly not advocating for people to be driving in his condition, but he did just about everything wrong as far as protecting himself from prosecution after.

Literally the best case scenario of a DUI incident. Both parties absolutely chill and respectful!!! Credit to both of them for that. Although the kid could have killed someone which is a big deal. I at least appreciate he didn’t treat the cops like they were evil people

Just because the internet loves to cherry pick police interactions and only show you the horrible ones doesn't mean those are the major majority of police interactions. Here's a mind blowing fact for you, people of every age, race and gender have police interactions and don't film them because it's a normal interaction. The inter net will show you horrifying things because that brings in more views, sure common courtesy has becomes a news worthy thing as well but doesn't sell as well. This video isn't highlighting "white privilege" it's showing a bizarre situation where the young man is zonked out of his mind. I grew up right down the road from LaCrosse. It's a nice place surrounded by bluffs but there are a few things that make it a magnet to these kind of interactions.
1) it has more bars per capita than any other city in America
2) it's a college town with three different schools (UW-LaCrosse, Viterbo, Western technical)
3) it has one of the largest oktoberfest celebrations in the world (in fact I'm pretty sure Daniel Tosh mentioned that going to LaCrosse's oktoberfest caused him to poop his pants as an adult)
4) It's just Wisconsin, the land of beer and cheese. Especially in winter, drinking is one of the few activities to partake in.

@@uslph. Not true. You only get read your rights once arrested. And he wasn't under arrest during the field sobriety test, just detained. If you offer up info willingly during the investigation while you're detained then that's on you.

As a citizen of Wisconsin, I can most definitely say that the drunkest state (Wisconsin) is most likely three times more drunk than the second drunkest state.
i saw a graph the other day that colored the US counties by % of heavy drinkers. White was very low, light blue was not that bad, Wisconsin, i kid you not- all dark blue lmao. Information lines up

There's actually sometimes notation on people's medical records that says their balance is not good enough to walk the line. My mom has an inner ear deformity that I'm pretty sure precludes her. Not that she's ever needed it but that was the joke between our family friend, who was a deputy, and her.
"Ma'am, can you walk this line for me?" "You know I can't! Get your coffee and bother somebody else."
My officer friend once had me go through the dui test when we were drunk and explained the process, he told me that the eyes are the biggest teller. You could score perfectly on the balance test and if you fail the eyes test bad enough they’ll arrest you anyways because it’s a dead giveaway.
@@purgatory671 I actually know someone who got pulled over and passed all the tests except for watching the pen. My understanding is that the eye test is so effective because it's involuntary movement, like a heartbeat, that you can't consciously control.
In some states you don't have to take it. Check your state and local laws.
This cop is so calm and chill with all of this. We need more cops like this on the streets.
There are a ton of them like this lmao. I’ll be honest I’ve never been pulled over by a cop (except by a trooper) but the general run ins with them are pretty chill. The older guys are kind of not so calm and the women are usually strictly business (and they’re hot) but the young guns are pretty relaxed. It’s pretty easy to forget the good times and only remember the bad. This kid was obviously not being too shifty he was just high as fuck lmao. The shiftiness of criminals is what makes cops and people uneasy.

@@andrewkravmaga1833 I agree I have never been pulled by a cop only a trooper , I wont even lie i was doing 75 in a 45 , on my defense i had a long day was in a 70mph zone that turned into a 45 and i didnt see the first 45 sign and when i seen the trooper i looked down and looked back up and was like shit , then seen him hit breaks and was like shit shit then seen him turn around i knew he had me , i pulled instantly because I knew he was coming after me , had truck off keys on hood and papers ready , he was so cool about it he gave me a ticket for 58 in a 45 and in state of Ga that means no points on license because it's under 15 over , it was a $120 ticket and that was all, I wasnt even going to fight it I knew I was in the wrong and I was just thankful he cut me slack. I had just worked a 15hour shift and on the road for another 8 hours round trip so I just wanted to get home and was tired and covered in sawdust *I worked at a cabinet shop* . I have always had good run in with officers even had a few as drinking buddies along with the district judge and the commissioner of the town , but there is also a lot of bad attitude ones out there that think they can treat everyone like shit, this cop was so laid back and calm even after being hit by this guy and was just patient with him , most cops if someone hit them by running a red light and stoned would be having a field day drilling the person and going off . That is what I meant by this cop was super chill . I am almost 100% sure that ANY other cop been hit they be acting totally different and I'm sure even donut operator would be the same way and highly pissed off .

First chill drinking, then Euphoria like I am a teen again, after that some philosophical and melancholic state, after that I get freaking tiered and after sleeping through I feel like I am 60 and my body is not working anymore and I have feelings of regret.

Actually having a line for them to use as reference would make the test easier for people who ARE actually drunk/high. Because if you were sober then walking straight for 10 steps would be easy. You wouldn't need a line as a guide.

I lived in Lacrosse!!! 6:38 I applied to work at that Subway!! (didn't get the job..lol) It's insane there at night. My mode of transport was a downhill MTB and I'd never been so terrified in my young 19yo life at that time...Screw those drivers!!!
Edit: To be fair when I first moved there I was looking for the Library; should be simple. I asked some random citizens and they directed me to 3 different bars named "The Library." It was the fourth person that I finally said "I'm looking for the place with books" that I finally found my destination. This place was as drunk as Kenosha my hometown...almost more so but we have drive-thru liquor stores....

Most of Central Wisconsin knows that all you need to do is take the back roads home to avoid the flashing lights. Only way they get busted is if they pop a deer and the car is stuck. Wisconsin, especially in the winter, knows how to drink. Unfortunately, not very many know how much Kessler is too much.

Way too honest. This is a perfect example of why you never answer questions or talk to police. Had he kept his mouth shut, it would have been an accident report and insurance matter. Now he’s got some serious charges to which he couldn’t wait to explain the manner, and extent to which he was guilty.
One thing to know that I thought I’d share with people, because in my teens and young adulthood I struggled really bad with Xanax addiction, is that there is nothing intentional that he is doing or saying. He is completely blacked out and has no control over what he is doing or thinking. The next day in jail he will wake up having literally no clue what happened. Crediting him with any kind of honesty is too much credit especially knowing myself what it looks like to have no control and then finding out the consequences a day later.
I would agree in most cases that honesty is the best policy but not when you're talking with the cops.
Unless of course you don't care about your sentencing then go right ahead.

I think it just comes down to, it's a lot easier laughing at a video of something like this than when you're in the presence of said intoxicated driver while they clearly don't even know how to put their car in park.
