I'd like to know how to get SH3, SH4, and SH5 to work. I have all from Steam, and since Ubi created their new Game Launcher, none of them will load now. And I'm pissed!!
@@nealrstevens If I remember correctly I played around with the compatibility options. I know on SH4 I also had to play with the graphics settings a few times to get it to work.
SH3 and 4 require "disable full-screen optimisations" checked. Otherwise you'll just get a black screen that requires task killing to get rid of. The ubi launcher should only be required for SH5 which was one of the 3 launch titles (next to Settlers 7 and Assasin's Creed 2) of that thing. The reason why many gave it a hard pass, at least when it was released (myself included) :)
Quick question for you AOD guys, did the chart have this flashy blue texture? And did the waves also have a jittery look? ua-cam.com/video/pxcF9J14O6k/v-deo.html Have you played Aces on DosBox "lately"? Reason I am asking is, I'm not sure if the jittery chart and ocean textures are something to do with *my* PC playing on Dosbox, or if this is the way Aces looked...? if you have played lately it would great if you could confirm it looks like this or does not look like this. Also, where is the top menu bar? Was it not in Aces? thanks!.
@@nealrstevens That's more or less normal for AOD originally and in dosbox. Maybe turn down the cycles and see if you like it better, never really bothered me but different strokes.:) Also, AOD never had a top menu bar.
Sad to say on W11, following the steps the game tries to launch, I see the splash screen, but then it closes immediately :( Really glad to see someone can get it running though. This was dad's favourite.
same problem here. It appears to be having a problem reading a very specific code on Line 522 on the WIN_SND.CPP file. I can't find the file for some reason, though.
8:04 I remember that issue from back in the day when I still had Win95. Not an issue in the good old DOS version, which is way easier to set up, luckily. Also, there are different sounds for different speeds which somehow isn't the case in Command. The only thing that it has in advantage is the manual gun shooting and the higher resolution if you don't like pixels. It doesn't really add to the game though. 20:20 Totally... I kinda like them even more than SH3's :D And even the English ones have German accent, nice touch! 20:55 And only within the red circle which is your visibility area. One of the most important indicators on the map. 26:56 She got the real motion immersion at least! Who else can claim that? :D
I installed AOD on a certain work computer, at a certain place of employment, back in 1995. Got it to run perfectly, and then changed the entire installed folder attribute to "hidden". When I would get a lunch break, I would walk over and type the executable from the run command, and play while I ate my dinner. Pretty sure it was still installed when they got rid of that computer 5 years later. 😇
Best WW2 submarine still with it's dynamic campaign with wolfpacks included. I played this for years again and again. Sadly CAOD was somewhat bugged. Is it working fine now later into the campaign?
Phenomenal work. I played non-command AotD with the med/Type XXI expansion because I couldn't get the 95 version to work. That was about 7 months ago so just missed this video :s Edit: In case it helps anyone I'm on Win 10 V. 22H2 and I think Build 19045.3324
Already replied to a comment about this, but I'm on windows 11 and still gettig the "unable to initialize sound/fx. The game is saying there's an error in Line 522 of the ".../SIM/WIN_SND.CPP" I haven't been able to find the file in the SIM folder, though.

I downloaded the file as soon as your assistant gave the instructions, and rated it as EXCELLENT! 🙂 I am insanely curious if the CD installer isn't 64-bit compatible as I have never tried to install it. I have gotten many other old games to install and run using compatibility settings in Win 10 over the last 5 years, and now I'm going to try my boxed AOCD, and I'll let you know!

I played around with SH4 from Steam and got it working on Windows 10, I think I have also been able to with SH3, but haven't had any luck SH5.

What did you do to get SH3 and 4 going?
I have had no problems with SH3 & 4 running (in Steam), but I had to download the game launcher directly from Ubisoft to get SH5 going.

AODCD is a much better choice via dosbox. CAOD was/is buggy.
True, I prefer the Dos version over this as well.
