Grips are from Larry Davidson,. The original design were called Shredders. However the ones you have look a little different. He pioneered the use of G-10. (He was a custom knife builder and started using G-10 on his knife scales.) When he lived in central Texas I used to visit him in his shop. The grips are not symmetrical on purpose, This was his take on a palm swell. He made all the OEM G-10 grips for Wilson Combat, Mil-Tec, Nighthawk, and the Springfield Armory.
I know this is an old Video, but I have just became interested in one of these vs a SA TRP Operator, and I want to tell you. YOUR NOT being nit picky on the items you noticed, those things are just WRONG, the rear sight and coating SHOULD NOT be like that on this level of Pistol. No this isn't Nighthawk, Ed Brown, etc, but Still it isn't colt, SA or Rock island either, and should be a lot cleaner than this. Glad it was shot great. Carry on, Great job, Love the channel, always check you out.
Polymer mainspring housings get a lot of bad comments but I’ve yet to hear of one breaking. Personally all of my 1911’s do not have them but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me
Big Johnson Guns and Gear yeah that was kinda sad. I owned two kimbers that had polymer mainspring housings. Never had a issue with that. But I didn’t own them long for other reasons. I guess the nice thing is it’s easy to replace and not real expensive
I have very long fingers as well but recently I’ve been experimenting with short triggers. I used to try using the long flat but they still weren’t quite right. Counterintuitively I can really bury my finger in there with the short triggers and get a perfect pull. I know it doesn’t make sense but I promise it works. Might want to try it.
Looks like a good shooting gun ! My Kimber also has plastic on the back of the frame , I was glad because it was so sharp I trimmed it down at the bottom & didn't want to file on a High $$ part . When you get anything New & perfect , the first ding is always painful #2,3 & 4 less so . You already have 5 dings on it so the next few should be mostly painless .
That is sweet! Maybe they made the right grip larger to help set your trigger finger further from the trigger, that's my guess. I've only shot one 1911 before and it was mind blowing how accurate they are. I'm thinking my next gun will be a 1911, but I'm not sure which brand to go with. I was thinking in the low-mid price range.
@Michael Saenz I heard great things about RIA. I'm not that knowledgeable on 1911s in general. The Smith sure is pretty though! Oh crap...as I'm typing this I get a notification "pops quest RIA 1911" 😂🤣
Nice job Big J, I have been liking my STI H.O.S.T. as well most accurate 1911 I own (2011 in 9MM). Getting better and better as round count goes up. At about 850 now. 115's 124's and 147's all very accurate.
I own a number of Wilson Combats and none of my sights have that damage done to them. NO f’n way would WC let that go out their door. That is piss poor. I like STI too.
I saw the 4.0 9mm version of this yesterday. Beautiful gun (although it did not have the magwell). I do not understand the logic of the blacked out front sight though, especially on a "tactical" firearm. I have an astigmatism, so I'm thinking that "feature" would pose problems for me. I will definitely have to do some research about that.
All in all though, that looks like a very nice pistol. The rear sight install work though. The marks wouldn't bother me...the quality control itself is what concerns me.
I am upset the gun has those marks on the rear sight and the chips in the coating. This is why I refuse to buy one. How much was it? You need to have them fix those problems. Quality control is 0
Ive had the same experience with the old CMC magazines. The follower tends to nose dive. Never tried the new ones. That’s a sexy beast. Can’t wait to see what you/LOK do with the grips. Hey Big hands 😂 Never have seen the Streamlight TLR1 mark up a rail like that either. I have to take my metal ring off my right hand when I shoot my 1911s. The ring marks the front strap. You should be nit picky with a custom gun. They should take pride in manufacturing that exceeds mass manufactured guns. I like a heavy pistol. So much fun to shoot. I find them easier to stabilize that extremely light pistols. Really good review Big J.
Wow send it back if you go to sell it you won't get nothing for it wow unless you got it for 400 dollars keep it if you paid good money for it Send this junk back.
Plastic mainspring housings save cost and weight. Probably to counteract weight from the rail a bit.
Probably So, man it sure dings up easily. TFW Carry On

Nice looking pistol, enjoy it
You are not not picky at all he'll your an angel if you keep it.
I would be sending it back.
AMEN I wouldn't put up with this pistol at alllllllllll.
I dig it.
Gorgeous 1911 Big Johnson.
Very nice gun Big J. Thanks for the video as always. Cheers!
Badass 1911 ! Love the full rail 👍
Looks good!
Thanks Brother, Carry On

Thanks, the gun has been completely customized since this vid. If you want to check out the other vids. Carry On
I like the looks of it as nice pistol as thanks for the good info....Good stuff....
The front strap stippling reminds me of my p220 legion
This gun is totally different now.
@@BigJohnsonGG how do you mean? I just picked up a staccato c2. But i heard the company is different since the name change
I had it totally customized, here it is now.

I also have the Staccato C2 Duo & vids on it.
@@BigJohnsonGG ah ok i gotcha
Looks like the right choice for a guy with super big hands

It’s not for me either, but as you can see they get dinged up easy. TFW Carry On

I have a love/hate relationship with these high speed 1911's. Anyhow, thanks for the video amigo.

They definitely chunked up the sights a bit but it still looks like a badass 1911 brother!
Thanks Man, Carry On
Sure looks like a lot of fun.🇺🇸👍
Very nice 1911, love to see more on it since it's an STI
Thanks Brother, TFW Carry On

That is an awesome firearm!! Good deal!

That's a pretty nice thrower for the 230 grains of hate☝️

I agree! TFW Carry On
Big Johnson Guns and Gear Found your channel through KSGunguy and Honest Outlaw. Keep putting out the content. Very interesting videos.
Cool, Thanks for coming aboard! Carry on
Great video brother. Those cosmetic issues would annoy me😂
Yeah I’m trying to brush them off until I get with STI. TFW Carry On
Was it a second from STI ? The coating looks odd on the back, by the slide cuts.
The dents marks on the rear sight would drive me nuts.
I don’t see anything on it or the box that indicates that? I know Tap,Tap,Tap. TFW Carry On
Nice review, Big Johnson!
I have a STI Marauder. It’s a great pistol as well. Best 1911s & 2011s on the market in my opinion.
Carry on! 😎
Thanks Brother, Carry On
Can you do the Staccato P .45acp model
I don’t have one, I also have an STI 2011 in 9mm. Thanks for Watching, Carry On

Old school 1911 had black sights & now they call them tactical sights..some say there better target sights? There nice pistols, TFW Carry On
All in all though, that looks like a very nice pistol. The rear sight install work though. The marks wouldn't bother me...the quality control itself is what concerns me.
I hear ya! TFW Carry On
What holster IWB you use on this? I have the 45acp cant find company will make holster for it.
This pistol has been completely customized since & now I don’t have an AIWB holster for it, only an OWB holster. Carry on
Obviously a failure by quality control. They most likely correct or change the pistol without spending a Penny.
almost looks like pitting under the finish
We use to call that orange peel, sometimes from not prepping the surface correctly? We shall see, TFW Carry On
@5:20 Not the end of the world .. but surprised to see that , I'm not a gun smith with a full tool box & I would do better than that ??
I am upset the gun has those marks on the rear sight and the chips in the coating. This is why I refuse to buy one. How much was it? You need to have them fix those problems. Quality control is 0
