Summer of Soul was fantastic. I couldn’t believe the quality of the preserved, remastered footage.

Surprised nobody in the comments has mentioned Bo Burnham's Inside. A stand up comedy special turned art piece time capusule of the pandemic. Could have been part of the collective trauma we were all going through at the time but it was one of the most moving and relatable films Ive ever seen. I watched it five times in 2021 and cried every time.

What a great surprise this video was! First of all, great list. If I said I disagreed with the choices here, I would be lying. My personal favorite was Drive My Car, but I also really loved and connected with films like Titane, The French Dispatch, The Tragedy Of Macbeth, The Power Of The Dog, The Worst Person In The World and countless others. Speaking of The Worst Person In The World, seeing it get the top spot here made my day. Norway is a pretty tame country when it comes to cinema, which is why Joachim Trier is such a blessing, and also why it just makes me so happy to see him get the attention he deserves. So yeah, great job on this one. Cheers!

Honestly, I have seen very few films from 2021 because I prefer to see films after a certain amount of time has passed and they are not new.
    Why is that?
I have the (maybe stupid) idea that when you see a movie it is very difficult to evaluate it without the expectations you check before watching it influencing your opinion about it. If you see a recurring movie, there is a lot of noise around it, as you are pushed by the choice of reviews, award nominations, advertising campaigns and other kinds of external influences because the commercial life of the movie is very active.
All the films you said sound very interesting to me, and all of them (except the chefs one which I didn't know) I had on my radar.... I hope to enjoy them in the future.... Because the only one I've seen is the Judas & Black Messiah....
Of the little I've seen of 2021 there are four films that I miss un your list because I really liked them...
Dune, The Inocents, The Suicide Squad & The Green Knight.

    • @1-2many

Sensible. I tried to hold off on this list for a while but really wanted to talk about these films but I agree that people tend to throw out lists way too early!

Agree on Dune and the suicide squad!
Also prefer watching movies later… but that mostly cause I like older movies.

I've so far only seen 4 films this year with differing views on each:
    4 Cruella - Not a fan.
3 Batman: The Long Halloween (parts 1 and 2) - Average.
2 Assault on Station 33 - Really good.
    1 Halloween Kills - Fantastic!!!

Obviously it's an animated Batman but had quite a few villians in it, not counting the gangsters there was the main new villain, Holiday, as well as Joker, Harvey and Two Face, Poison Ivy, Solomon Grundy, Mad Hatter, Calender Man, Scarecrow and the Penguin. Catwoman also starred but as an ally to Batman.

@@jonbolton3376 Soul of the dragon is animated too. The best animated one overall would be batman vs the teenage mutant ninja turtles. It’s not from 2021 though…. But if you get a chance I recommend you check it out.

A best of 2021 that doesn't mention Power of the Dog or Dune is a brave one - I salute you for it. Both films are very good but overrated. I would add The Green Knight, but mostly because it was almost as good as I wanted it to be, rather than as good as it could have been...

    • @tranaproductions
      @tranaproductions 2 роки тому +2

For me, no. It is a film which shows you the messiness of love and really just living, but at the end of the day, it celebrates this, making it a strangely optimistic film. Go watch it as soon as you can.

I have no interest in any of these films. I think if you compare the 2021 list to your lists from previous decades you will see how uninteresting these films look. I don't want to see superhero movies anymore either but I would rather rewatch my favorites or discover a missed 20th century film than see these.
