- This port report is from Kristiansand, Norway, where we sailed with Holland America Cruise Line. We cover the port basics and our experience touring this small, sunny and relaxing place. We go exploring on foot for a DIY excursion, visiting Fiskebrygga (Fish Market), the Kristiansand Cathedral for an organ recital, Posebyen, Bystranda Beach, Ravnedalen Park. Let’s get the lowdown!

The Port Lowdown offers detailed and fun video guides for cruise ports and destinations, helping independent, budget-minded travelers save time and money. We found that many videos lack the details we needed, such as parking, restrooms, available services, and even sidewalk quality. We act as your “port scout”, providing first-hand reports on essential information that others overlook; our videos cover port terminals, independent excursions, goods, services, transportation and even ship tours. With time ticking away during your port visit, we understand the importance of sound planning to make every moment count. Let us give you the Lowdown!

There's a very interesting museum near the port; "Kunstsilo". Really worth a visit for both the art collection and the impressive building; an old grain elevator/silo.
Ah, I see. It's across the water and next to the performance center. This DOES look interesting and right up my alley, since I'm a culture vulture. Thanks so much! Hopefully, I can come back to do a follow up video.
We really enjoy your vlogs! Very helpful! Thx so much! 👍
You're very welcome!
There's a ferry service that goes Bergen - Stavanger - Hirtshals - Kristiansand (and then back again), and I've taken that to Kristiansand for a short vacation before. It's a lovely place, personally I liked the ferris wheel, because it gives you a very nice view of the whole bay area. You do get a slightly more central dock than the cruise dock, but then again, your ship is smaller, with only 1500 passengers.
Right. But we really don't have much time in port. That said, the area is a fine place to spend more time outside of a cruise. Lots to explore!
In Aquarama building a little Delicatessen store have opened now , and the Portalen you walked by on route up there, burnt down last year .
Oh no! That was a cool building! Thanks for the heads up.
Hotel also in Aquarama that offer deals in the gym , spa and the swimming pools also
Every year that area and beach is part of Palmesus Festival also .
Further up from city is Boen Gård. If one wishes the Salmon Lord and Oscarian ers visit its a fine place for that . Mentioned In Michelin guide and afternoon tea aswell as lodding and more there .
Posebyen comes of french name for Lodging or Garrisonned . Before the barracks were built millitary were housed with the civilians in town . The Fortress were some of places used by military then.
Thanks so much. This is great update information for a future trip next year!
@@ThePortLowdown and also look up Batteri Vara , Tino Von Struckmann made some good long video documentaries on that fine Cannon battery . One of of Bismarck type cannons there .
If it is couple of days look up Lista , Kvinesdal , Farsund . Part of Little America , and many went over to US and worked and came back once a year or every second year .
@MrPh30 Cool. Thank you! All this really helps for future trips. Best to you!!
