Same situation, my R9 290 Tri-X OC reaches 50 / 60fps all at maximum and 3440x1440 resolution in Darksiders Genesis, 30fps in SW jedi fallen order and many others, unfortunately it does not support freesync and saturates the whole VRAM quite easily, lowering some details, it keeps beating for a few more years.

thespanishinquisition damn you’re right... When I was looking for a card for my new build, I was deciding between a 1070TI, 1660TI and a Vega 56. The videos I watched showed the 1070TI beating the 1660TI and the Vega 56. I must have watched a very old benchmark video because the results were that the Vega 56 compared to a 1070. Just watched a more recent benchmark comparison video and it shows the Vega even beating the 1080 in some games. Would have definitely opted for that used Vega 56 I saw for $195 instead if I had known just how well optimized it has gotten, oh well
@@vexlegacy5471, I've got the Vega 56 at the beginning of the year, winning the bet with the future cards, at 275 euro shipped. 230 for the 1070ti, is not bad, I would've definitely got it if available, for around Vega 56 money, when I was shopping... I hate Nvidia, but I love my wallet!

See what you guys never talk about is yeah the Performance difference is the same but with a 4gb card you cant max out the settings. Yet once i started playing games like doom eternal, warzone and apex legends i find out any card with less than 8gb of ram won’t let you turn the texture detail all the way up. So when you guys compare these cards you must being using the lower rams cards max settings and not the higher ram card.
@Matt Kelly stupid saying ablut Vega. Pls Turn -50mA and she will be good. In my opinion Vega is atm very cheap for it's performance especially with a ryzen CPU. Depends where you life. Buy the best price for the most efficiency (fps) not watt. You won't even notice it if you are not playing 8h a day
Jay you gotta remember that many Internet cafes use prebuilts with 1060s so anyone signing onto steam with them counts it as a pc per person, steam charts are pretty skewed but its true that the price range is preferred. Anywho if AMD could make their driver installation more reliable (less likely to need a re-install after 'quirks' appear) and they fix the fan curve sometimes not responding to heat change, then AMD would truly be an equal contender with nvidia for ease of use, hardware wise ohh man they've done a good job for the budget/mid tier market!
@Rahul Biswas Thats the way ive done it lol, even letting windows install the drivers can be a hit or miss. I Build pc's for people in my area(I mostly use 570s) and most of the time AMD gpus need a driver reinstall to fix their issues that I notice in game while testing them, even my own sapphire pulse 5700xt had similar issues (it also had a hardware defect but some issues went away after driver re installation). Amd needs to make the process less prone to failure; and the fan curves more responsive.. The software is dragging down the great hardware AMD has made and its annoyong to deal with imo.

@o0ericj0o It's about maximizing revenue for a given set of silicon, by binning them. so they buy 1000 count of 1660 chips. then bin them for the std, oc, gaming, gaming, x, etc. and sell them to us at the highest price they can. Because they pre-bin them the chances you get a std card that can OC up to the SUPERMEGADOUBLEOVERCLOCK card isn't likely.
I just picked up a GTX1660 Super for a daily runner build because of the performance + amount of GDDR6 + NVENC capabilities for OBS encoding. Getting my first AMD CPU in this build tho, so pretty excited abut that :)
5500 8gb looks more suited to compete at the $200 price point. At $230 I contemplate just buying a 1660 cheaper or saving another $100 and buying a 5700; both options giving a boost in performance.
what the hell happened to entry level pc gaming??? 2017 I build a mid range pc with all brand new hardware that just released for 600, 2019-today you couldn't build a entry level one for lass than 800. rx 580 8gb was $140 when I built my rig, now you can barley get a card for less than $200.
I got a 5500xt with 8gb for like 180 a few months back. I’m on the waiting list with EVGA to get the 3070 but in the meantime. The 5500xt is a very Capable card at 1080p. With forza 7 you can max out the settings at 4K and the card barley breaks a sweat. But games like red dead 2. The card works hard. It pushes the card in the 80s junction temp. You’re not going to be able to max out games but you’ll be able to play any game that’s out now and still look pretty damn good at 1080p and 4K for racing games. I only got this card because it’s the cheapest capable card you can buy now. And it’s impossible to get any 30 series card and will probably be impossible to get the new AMD cards. Once I can get my hands on one I’ll be getting one ASAP
LOL this didn't age well. This card has great performance now thanks to its latest drivers and pricewise it's comparatively competent. Good luck nabbing a 1660ti, or an Nvidia anything these days really. It's not worth it. Gaming at 70-90 FPS on high/ultra paired with a 3600 in 2021. 😎

1080p is still the overwhelming leader in resolutions because most people don't buy monitors very often - since a panel will last you 5 - 10 years easily its not often that people go out to buy new ones and when they do the monitors that support 1440p+ expensive enough that they'll just stick with a cheaper 1080p monitor instead.
I would too. But my XFX card is having bugs all the damn time. Crashing games, screen goes black sometimes etc. They said it was software bullshit I say I done reinstalled my OS and driver nothing was fixed.
I think it comes down to personal preference rather than pure FPS numbers. I personally would pick AMD 8GB card just cause I'm familiar and enjoy their driver suite. I feel like NVIDIA is a bit behind in terms of drivers and feature support.
I just got this card for $190. Comes with a copy of Godfall ($60) that I wanted to play anyway when it releases and a $25 gift card for doing a review so I feel like this was a worthwhile affordable upgrade at $105 from my EVGA GTX 760 SC.

Yeah, I put RX 590s in my kids builds because I was getting them for $185 a piece. They get warm, but they never even approach thermal throttle or even run their fans full speed, even with a 10+ minute furmark stress test.
i have one , it still pretty good at 1080p gaming and 1440p with messing up the settings
I LOVE that Jay will do tests and builds for more moderately priced systems and components. Not everyone can afford to put 2+ RTX2080ti's into a computer and then rebuild it every year with the newest components.

It's worth it if you wanna try to play in 4k and fry eggs on the side of your PC while doing it. I am 100% certain that switching from the 1660 super to the rx 5700xt is the reason my less than a month old brand new PC went out on me completely. At first I thought in my have been my 700 watt 80 plus PSU, which it wasn't, and I honestly really didn't suspect that it was. Now that very PC I spoke of is at this moment being repaired in which I suspect they will be replacing the mother board. Did you factor in the cost of the power it uses? I just bought a VEGA 64 for 200.

I got a 5500xt with 8gb for like 180 a few months back. I’m on the waiting list with EVGA to get the 3070 but in the meantime. The 5500xt is a very Capable card at 1080p.
