    You teaching skills are awesome, better than most payed tutorials. You Vocals are great too, such a natural ability fo harmony. Great idea to run looper on a send. More tutorials please

    Digged the use of a return channel to hold the loops - I don't usually hear about that methodology. Sick! Great video :)

    That's a nice trick, found that Looper thing after going through the plugin section on Ableton but there was some issues and feedback distortion, probably caused by the channel. Will try to use the return channel.

    I've always thought the LPD8 was the best controller for using Looper. If Akai would only make the knobs endless, it would be the perfect controller. Nice video! ❤

    I am a bit lily livered about midi mapping from a controller. It appears to be so easy in Ableton. You just did it. Not only that but you did it on 3 different controllers as your needs evolved. Personally, I would love to know more about that.

      Ableton makes midi mapping super easy, maybe I’ll make a more in depth vid on it in the future :)

    I couldnt figure out why my ableton push wasnt doing the assignment with buttons then realised i have a launchkey plugged in and ableton was choosing that device over the push. i need to figure out a way for it to work without unplugging it. at least i finally got passed the buttons assisnments. lol

    Hey Alanna, thank you so much for sharing this video. When you perform in a live setting does this looper work well? As in to not pick external noise? Do you use a performative mic or this dynamic mic in this instance? Thank you! :)

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  4 дні тому

      I’ve done it live many times yes!! The amount of pickup really depends on the volume of the room and the volume of your monitors! If I know I’m going to be doing vocal loops I generally don’t use stage monitors just in ears, but I find that the bleed is generally not that bad when using a normal SM58 mic

      @@AlannaMatty Got it! I'm always very hesitant to do "technical" performance on stage just because of tech, but the Shure mics true don't pick much external. Thank you for all your insights :)

    Love your videos Alanna. Thanks for doing a in depth video about the looper. I have started out with the looper and test some hands free setup with the looper. I hope to be more on stage with my music.
    I can’t get my head around loopers quantisation. Even if I set the loopers quantisation to for example’ 2 bars’ the recording of the looper starts recording instantly as if the looper quantisation is set ‘None’. Any ideas how to solve it? I am using ableton live 9 standard.
    Thanks again

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  2 роки тому

      Good question! I took a look at it, and I can't seem to recreate it on my side, I'm in 11 but I don't know that there would be a difference. I keep my looper set to global, and my global quantization is one bar so I know the loop will start recording at the next down beat. Sorry I can't be of more help!

    • @queerfx
      @queerfx 2 роки тому

      @@AlannaMatty Thanks for answering and taking your time. I should add that even the quantisation without the looper as global quantisation, is still failing. So It’s not a specific problem for the looper at my side. I have to dig in to it further.

    • @queerfx
      @queerfx 2 роки тому

      @@AlannaMatty Well I watched your video again I realised that quantisation only works when you playback the project, as you did in the video. At my side I also needed to fix the projects master tempo via master scenes. So now the quantisation within the looper works as well😀. Thanks again

      I've experienced the same in Live 11 when using the "Device" mode on my Push2 and using the rotary encoder on the push2 to control the looper's "state" value (stop/record/playback/overdub). When dialing away from the "Stop" state, recording starts instantly, the quantization setting doesn't seem to be respected and Looper acts as if it was set to none. Also, dialing to play mode acts as if tempo control was set to "None"; the looper shows a bpm which is off from the song's BPM. Could this be a bug in Live11?

  • @Jakeonetwo

    I was wondering if you have ever ran into a latency issue when recording audio in your looper setup... I am on beat with the metronome but it seems to be a bit late in the looper itself during playback
    thank you for your video, i hope to see if you have any advice for this issue!

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  9 місяців тому

      I would take a look at your chain! If you need to be in USB 3 for midi devices, or if your interface might be slow for vocals/instruments. You can toggle low latency protection and see how that goes, the only time I ever really experience it is with my octave pedal which tends to be a little behind
      You can also look at lowering your sample rate to find a point where the latency isn’t going to affect you too much!

    Thanks for the video! Super helpful!! Do I need to drag the loop into the scene for it to play or will the loop just keep playing from the looper plugin?

    • @AlannaMatty

      You don’t have to no! I just play it directly from the looper plugin :)

    Super video!
    1. I'm confused by how to control the loops once created - they don't exist as clips, right? So they'll just continue to play regardless of scene switches. What am I missing?
    2. And then would you do this for any audio sources? Have a separate send channel with looper for guitar, vox, and piano? Would you need to have multiple instances of each if you wanted the option to create different vocal or guitar loops in the same song?

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  Рік тому

      You are correct. They exist as separate clips within the vocal looper plugin. There is the option to drag them out of the plugin and onto a track to trigger them in a scene but generally I just trigger them from the plugin
      As for 2, yes you could do this with any source you want if you wanted to loop in a more “traditional hardware” kind of way, but I tend to use it just for vox

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  Рік тому

      And yes, I have four tracks with the looper plugin on it so that I can record different parts for each song

  • @usernamehandle

    Hey Alana, thank you for this video, but I’ve been watching a few of your videos trying to understand WHY we send it to the return? You seem to be the only person using it this way. What is the benefit of doing that instead of just putting it directly on the track?

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  9 місяців тому

      I mainly do because I usually layer 2-3 vocal loops at once and if the loop is on the main vocal track I can’t control the reverb or volume independently
      Chances are I probably don’t want my harmonies to be as loud or using the same processing as my main vocal so I like to micro manage and have them each on the return tracks 😅

    Hi there! Thanks for the tutorial!
    Do you hear the looper while recording these? Ehen doing this, my looper seems to respond a bit weirdly, and only plays the loop after I record something in the arrangement (not in the looper)

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  Рік тому

      I only hear it afterwards! The first recording I’m just monitoring my vocal track as usual

    Can I use this for live performances? If so how?

    • @AlannaMatty
      @AlannaMatty  Рік тому

      Absolutely you can!
      The key is that you have your vocals going through your computer before they go out to the sound tech. The other thing you want to watch out for is that if you are using a monitor on stage (like a speaker to hear yourself) that it’s not getting picked up on the mic. I’d recommend either using in ear monitoring or talking to the sound tech about the vocal levels in the monitors :)
