I still find it beautiful that Gregory was driving home at 3am from Boulder, Colorado and he just stopped on the side of the road to write this. It’s pure magic
Improvisation is the true sign of genius. This came out of him without searching, just came to him, like air, like breathing, that inspiration from an unconscious place deep inside us.
"Even my own self, it just don't seem mine" Wow, amazing. Pure poetry and the way he looks at the camera after he says it, wow What a beautiful soul this man has.
I dont think it gets any better than this. I discovered greggory alan isakov about three years ago. I haven't stopped listening to him since. Out of all his incredible songs I think this one is my absolute favorite. The lyrics make it.
I am living in Malang, Indonesia at the moment. I played this song for some people at a cafe. Gave due credit, of course. He was a huge hit. The university students in town really take to his music it seems! i wish it would catch on in my hometown of Milwaukee. But, then again, I guess it's cool he's a bit of hidden gem, eh?
Why did I only discover this gem now? I have been listening to him most of yesterday and honestly, he should be right up there with Dylan and Cat Stevens.
Verse/intro (capo 2) C G am F Chorus am F C G Interlude dm F C G He uses his pinky on the 3rd fret of the high e string during instrumental parts and forefinger on the first fret of high e on the G. Inbetween am and F use your pinky to play the third fret on the low e. Few hammer on using his middle finger on C and F chords. Good luck in working it out!
Funny to see this comment in the thread. I love the poetry and how he writes a song and weaves it all together. But I have also thought, “I want to be able to play guitar like this!” I was given a guitar recently and am learning. Strumming is all I got for now.
Great song by an even greater song writer. I love how the beginning of this song there is some crowd noise and by the end it is so silent in the room....shows the power of this song and singer :)
I've played this song so many times over the past year that I've been listening to Gregory, and It seems that I've come to understand what it really means. Amazing!
"Well its 3 a.m again, like it always seems to be Drivin' northbound, drivin' homeward, drivin' wind is drivin' me And it just seems so funny that I always end up here Walkin' outside in the storm while looking way up past the tree-line It's been some time Give me darkness when i'm dreaming Give me moonlight when i'm leaving Give me shoes that weren't made for standing Give me tree-line, give me big sky Get me snow-bound, give me rain clouds give me a bed time just sometimes Now you're talkin' in my room, but there ain't nobody here Cuz i've been driving like a trucker, I been burnin' through the gears I've been training like a soldier, i've been burnin' through this sorrow And the only talkin lately is that background radio You were my friend, and I was… " Poetry.
pure perfection 3 a.m. that's one song I'm going to learn bottle it up for my home away from home! your music is psychedelic may God bless you for sharing it with the world. :-)
I love this song and would again love to sing and play it. Anyone figure the chords out yet? Not my strongest skill, but there are those of you blessed. Please pass on that love
Ill study up though on this because I want to learn it too. When I get it ill throw up a tutorial vid. Oh and I gotta give Richard props for helping. Did a good job. It may be enough for some to learn it but ill still throw up a vid. Just need a few days to check it out.... Possibly a week. It's a little more advanced then what I'm used too but yeah
It takes some fingerpicking studying. I'd recommend checking out John Mayer Tabs. He fingerpicks in alot of his songs. The reason I say that is because all his songs are tabbed cuz he's way famous. Then listen to this and see if there are some similarities with certain songs and build upon it and eventually you'll get it. Even if your not the best guitarist you can always strum the chords and sing. Then as you become more skilled work on getting this to sound like the way he plays it
Okay i think i finally figured out most of the song, capo on second, at the start it's C G Am F, mostly, and then when he sings give me darkness when I'm dreaming etc. it's something like Am F C G, and well, it alternates depending on parts of the song, but you know, hope i helped a little
I am also trying to figure it out, but I am not capable of it. Would you please so kind to post or send me the tabs and chords that you have? Any help will be really appreciate it. I am a big fan of Gregory and 3 AM is my favorite. Nothing would make me more happy than playing this song by my own. Thanks
They are fairly normal cords, just with a capo. The tricky bit is his picking style. It's fucking crazy lol. I'll do my best to get back to you guys and let you know what those cords are soon
I think it's pretty similar to 'Don't think twice it's alright' by Dylan and that definitely has extensive tabs and tutorials, hope I've helped someone...
Better lyricist than Dylan. His music is more complex and lyrical that Dylan, Yet we can't let ol' Bob Zimmerman go for the young 'uns who've been gifting us since the turn of the century.
NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! I do love this guy's music, buy he's really trying too hard on this song....So so so so sad? For what? He actually mentioned a coyote in the song, NO way that means serious shit....
He sings, "I ain't out there to cheat you. See I killed that damn coyote in me." I would take that to mean that he is not prowling around looking for anyone else. He will be true to whoever he is singing to.

I hadn’t heard this. Thanks for sharing.
I hate that some people didn't have the decency to be quiet. Poor Gregory. His music is so pure and amazing, everyone should listen carefully.
I'm sure he felt it's all as it should be, which is all as it is. The music bridges the gap.
As soon as he gets to .. singing so much softer than I did back then.. the crowd has gone quiet. He captures them in his grace ❤️
the indifference of the listeners brought the sensuality of the song to the top
@@muhsinark1 most definitely. this could almost be a nice scene for a music video. it fits with the song very well.
"Even my own self, it just don't seem mine" Wow, amazing. Pure poetry and the way he looks at the camera after he says it, wow
What a beautiful soul this man has.
Tears in my eyes! Yes!

Gregory Alan Isakov is such a gift to the world. what would I do without his music?
"God's been livin' in that ocean sendin' us all the big waves" 🙏😇

woah! I live in Malang too! this song is a gem for rainy days like these
Small world
+itskonde i totally forgot about this post. are you indonesian? or an expat?
3 years passed and nothing has changed
I am from Indonesia too. This song is beautiful, subscribe his youtube channel!
Pure musical perfection. He makes everything better.
Those idiots who keep laughing do not deserve to be in the presence of such a great genius.
Kudoz for the person who keeps shushing.
Already pushed like before he even sang the first note. He’s just great
Why did I only discover this gem now? I have been listening to him most of yesterday and honestly, he should be right up there with Dylan and Cat Stevens.
i am so there! I thought this music/ song was lost his voice and music just keep at me
One of my favorite songs ever. His music is true art
One of the most beautiful songs in recent history... He is just too real.
This line brings tears to my eyes “you were my friend I was the same”
I love this song and my dad listens to this song almost every day at work.
one of my favourite songs of all time
Verse/intro (capo 2) C G am F

It’s a crazy hard song to play. I’m about 90% there 😂 He makes it look super easy :)

The calm that this piece of music conveys is soothing. :)
I'm in love with his music. He's incredible.
so amazed and so in love with this masterpiece and pure poetry
My new lullaby... every night a peaceful dream... thank you, shining soul
Brilliant song and awesome music artist ❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏
Lord There are no words for this
There's something deliciously authentic about this impeccable performance, masterfully captured.
I've played this song so many times over the past year that I've been listening to Gregory, and It seems that I've come to understand what it really means. Amazing!
0 dislikes. Not surprised. This is lovely.
This is prolly one of the best songs I've ever heard, great flow and peacefulness, great job man, keep it up!
"Well its 3 a.m again, like it always seems to be
Drivin' northbound, drivin' homeward, drivin' wind is drivin' me
And it just seems so funny that I always end up here
Walkin' outside in the storm while looking way up past the tree-line
It's been some time
Give me darkness when i'm dreaming
Give me moonlight when i'm leaving
Give me shoes that weren't made for standing
Give me tree-line, give me big sky
Get me snow-bound, give me rain clouds give me a bed time just sometimes
Now you're talkin' in my room, but there ain't nobody here
Cuz i've been driving like a trucker, I been burnin' through the gears
I've been training like a soldier, i've been burnin' through this sorrow
And the only talkin lately is that background radio
You were my friend, and I was… "

I love this song and would again love to sing and play it. Anyone figure the chords out yet? Not my strongest skill, but there are those of you blessed. Please pass on that love
Cracked me up the news came out right after that comment. Disappointed no Mercury or Liars on it... but maybe even better? Can't wait.
5 years after your comment and Liars has its single release and I'm still waiting for Mercury...
❤️
🖤
I'm jealous. If you see him again tell him to release his new album please.
I dont know if you can find the exact hat he wear, but search on the Kangol website, you should find something which looks like his hat ;)
It's coming! July 8th, I believe :) I'm going to see him shortly afterwards.
please notify me when you do!!
@dannyhowlett17 his music is on itunes!
Ill study up though on this because I want to learn it too. When I get it ill throw up a tutorial vid. Oh and I gotta give Richard props for helping. Did a good job. If Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley had a musical love child......... Amazing.

Awesome advice!

I'm not going to say anything. I don't have any words.
Did bob Dylan have a love child with Bonnie raitt 😆😆😆
Hey Chuck--I was wandering around thinking what you said. Seems so, doesn't it. Sounds wonderful to me and makes me feel nostalgic as hell.
does ANYONE know how to play this?! I really want to learn but I'm terrible at figuring out fingerstyle playing
I am also trying to figure it out, but I am not capable of it. Would you please so kind to post or send me the tabs and chords that you have? Any help will be really appreciate it.
I am a big fan of Gregory and 3 AM is my favorite. Nothing would make me more happy than playing this song by my own.
Thanks

well it's 3am again, like it's always seem to be
the only talking lately is the background radio
The only talking lately is to my radio at 3am then back to someone else home to turn to dust.
Anyone figure out how to play this?.....there's some G and Am relative to the capo but that's all I know....I'm not very good.
damn the guy laughing in the background.
I think it's pretty similar to 'Don't think twice it's alright' by Dylan and that definitely has extensive tabs and tutorials, hope I've helped someone...
I love how this song is like he's looking back on his whole life
i am in the midst of figuring it out myself. i have the chords he uses and some of the riffs down as well
Why does 3 AM always feel so good (unless you're in your bed trying to fall asleep and failing)...?
Better lyricist than Dylan. His music is more complex and lyrical that Dylan, Yet we can't let ol' Bob Zimmerman go for the young 'uns who've been gifting us since the turn of the century.
✌❤🌷🌷🎶✊
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😇
Why is this so similar to my life
He makes me want to get on bended knee and propose to him.
sign me up also, I will work on trying to figure it out but if one of you guys does it first, perhaps post here...
Being all locked up in stupid covid…I wanna stink eye the ppl laughing in this vid
@SMsam796
I love this song..but I have no idea what the hell he's trying to say
Good. Maybe you'll figure it out when you're 40.
NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! I do love this guy's music, buy he's really trying too hard on this song....So so so so sad? For what? He actually mentioned a coyote in the song, NO way that means serious shit....
Wardup04 smh you have no idea what you're talking about..
He sings, "I ain't out there to cheat you. See I killed that damn coyote in me." I would take that to mean that he is not prowling around looking for anyone else. He will be true to whoever he is singing to.
