    When you realize the lord of the rings is the bottom of the barrel side quests and mini bosses left over from someone's epic playthrough after they already beat the important quests and monsters

    Who is Smaug the Dragon? He is fire. He is death.
    Seriously though, although he was smaller than those other great dragons, I get the idea he was likely the greatest of that time.
    EDIT: If you google this size comparison chart, you'll see that there isn't much difference between him, Scatha, and the fire drake of Gondolin. It's really only Ancalagon and Glaurung that are noticeably bigger, so he was no joke, even among most of the older dragons.

    Did Smaug know about the one ring? Like when he meet Bilbo he knew he had it on him, even said (in the movie) “something more precious”. How did he know to use that terminology describing it or was that just how it had always been referenced as?

      That's just a line they threw in for the movie. I don't recall his making any reference to it in the book.
