    New gardener here, and something I'm confused about regarding drip pans: is it okay to leave the grow bags with a plant soaking in standing water? Will the extra water rot the roots?

    Pea gravel is too alkaline. Use crushed granite, it is pH nuetural.

    • @jamescampbell1060
      @jamescampbell1060 3 роки тому

      Most pea gravel is quartzitic which is in the granite family. If the pea gravel is from crushed limestone it is pH neutral. The bigger question is why use any rock whatsoever, the rock simply displaces the volume of water the tray can hold. If the gravel is higher than the water level, no wicking occurs and as soon the bottom of the fabric pots are submerged in the water, makes little difference if they are submerged 1/4 inch or 2 inches

    Advantages of growth bag:
    1) Made of environment friendly non woven fabric, allow roots breathable and healthier.
    2) Booster better roots aeration and access to oxygen, resulting in a vigorous plant with more flowers and fruits.
    3) No-strap water design prevent over watering of plants.
    4) Keep roots warmer in winter and cooler in the summer
    5) Sturdy handle straps easier transportation.
    6) Decrease risk of transplant shock.

    • @ecoagroguy2415
      @ecoagroguy2415 7 років тому

      I've thought of it: a seperate outlet from the swirl filter runs into and through a shallow media bed just like this one here and empties into the sump tank. I would prefer a flow through instead of flood and drain because if there was a pump failure there would be a fix reservoir of water and the plants would neither dryout nor drown.

    #Larry & Eyvonne Hall Hi Larry, I thought you'd appreciate a heads up. This link: (www.growbaggardensystems.com/) is unable to give a secure link so Firefox diverts and gives a warning. Upon proceeding to the page, it returns a "403 Forbidden" message. So there's a domain permissions misconfiguration there. It may be as simple as the "html" folder's 'permissions' being set to "private", and needing to be changed to "public". There's probably a setting in your "C-Panel" to switch on 'secure socket layering' to solve the initial browser security problem too. I hope this info helps you out. Great videos, thanks for posting them. Stay safe. Ve

    Larry, I filled the pool with 1 1/2 " water , then added my bags and pea gravel up to 3 inches on the side of pool. My bags are swimming in water.and I didn't cover the entire bottom with pea gravel. Did I do something wrong?

    • @ritcheymt
      @ritcheymt 5 років тому +2

      What do you mean, "swimming in water," Sue? The concept of a grow bag is that you water from the tray. since the bag allows the plant's roots to have a lot more surface area exposed to oxygen, it's okay for the bottom of the bag to be sitting in water. In fact you want it this way because the roots on the sides of the bag "air prune" -- they dry out and die off near the walls of the bag due to too much air and dryness. the plant can't drown because 1) all watering is from wicking upwards from the bottom and 2) so much oxygen gets to the roots through the bag sidewalls. I grow herbs this way, and they thrive. Healthiest and largest herbs I've ever had, and watering is idiot-proof.
