I don't know how many of people have actually experienced i8 inperson, but i really loved this artificial sound althought i hate them usually. For me it made car feel more powerful because that V8 M3'ish rumble mixed with eletric sound intensifying with revs, i had very little expectations about 1,5L i3 engine with quite little electric power, but it blew me away completly! I personally own a E60 M5 and a tuned 500hp E92 335i but this car felt so much more aggressive and faster, eventhough it surely wasn't, atleast not above 100km/h.
It's that instantaneous torque from the front motor. You look at the car's specs and on paper it's not terribly impressive but in real life the car feels strong all the time and probably the only place it suffers a bit is near triple digit speeds where it quickly runs out breathe.
That's noise, some car makers (Rolls Royce?) Work hard, with blocks of rubber, to insulate from noise. BMW were half way there and then added fake engine noise , crazy. They should have worked with Bose on active noise cancelling speakers instead.
Damn. Wish I'd seen this video a few months ago. I'm 6'3", 220lbs and bench 1.5x my body-weight and drink whole milk (fck skimmed!) - is it even legal that I own an i8??? On top of that, I now learn that the speaker modulates/tempers the engine & exhaust note, not fakes it, and that this car actually sounds genuinely good? It's all too much - this all piles on top of the fact that I seem to have gotten a factory-error i8 that's fast (beginning to wonder if they're all fast, tbh...). I hope I'm allowed to keep it - fast, sexy AF, sounds great...
Thank’s for the explanation. Can you tell me how to connect that speaker on the interior? I think my speaker is dead and I would like to test it before open the piece. Thanks!
Hey man. I own a BMW i8 and I stumbled upon this video and instantly thought where you were in the video is the place I work and after about 2 minutes I was positive that was where I work. Anyway, I was wondering if you have an instagram or something. I was wondering what you’ve done to your bmw i8. We just got ours and I was wondering what you have done to yours if anything as well as some questions of what I can do with mine. Let me know if you see this!
Bruv how do I disable this completely haha I’m getting a ton of distortion through my i8 speakers specifically when I switch the car on to drive mode…if I turn on the accessories only the speakers are fine and there is no issue…however as soon as I press the start button with the break down I get max distortion out of every speaker. Which leads me to believe it’s the active sound somehow. Any thoughts?
Dude its so annoying how "real car guys" criticize this amazing car, I don't understand why maybe the electric part of it? Like its so dang cool it's my favorite sports car ever for so many reasons.
Thanks for that info, do you have any knowledge of any other engine sound gadgets out there that's good as I don't have a BMW, lol, please and thank for anything that will help.
What a shame ! It’s all Fake sound effects thats actually sad the car looks dope but since all the engine sound is fake then whats the point buying it?
Maybe owners are just happy with a relatively quiet exhaust? Not sure why some people seem intent on trying to better what the manufacturer can do. In the UK there are sound cameras which detect a noisy exhaust and them photograph the number plate so a fine then comes through the post. Unfortunately, too many have taken the piss over the years with noisy cars and motorcycles etc, which has resulted in this action. Not saying I agree with it, but it just goes to show what can happen if you piss enough people off...
Lol the UK, where there is no air conditioning, you have to measure your own electricity, pay for a license to watch television, and have approximately five cameras aimed at your asshole at all times. No thanks, btw real car people DO like engine noise.
Great video, this is exactly what every I8 owner was asking.....what does it really/or not/ sound like. Well done.
Thank you!
I doubt that very much, maybe a few, but most will be driving the car and enjoying it, rather than worrying about what noise it makes...
It would be cool if you could download different sounds. I would get the DeLorean from Back to the future or Snoop dog saying shizzle.
Love this video. Straight to the point!
Dope video bro. Thank you
BMW states that it's not generating exhaust noise but to just amplify it. Hence it sounds very similar (just a bit louder with speaker).

The inside sound was amazing
The fake engine nosie sounded like a commerical jet engine starting.
3:00 That sound gives me headaches.
BTW, do you have just the sound of the electric engine?

This car sounds like ghost from horror movie :(

Welcome to the club! I'm up to 2% milk myself. And they are fast. You're just not allowed to be a real car enthusiast and like the i8 apparently.
Thank’s for the explanation.

Great Car!
sound so future vibe we like that😍
Thanks so much for this! Tells us so much about what fake sounds they're really playing.
But is this with the interior fake sound deactivated?

Sorry, just seeing this. Simi Valley I assume?
That car is cool very very awesome
I actually like it, sounds awesome. Downshifts sound almost racecar like.
Great vid... got an i8 also and love it. Though, I would love to have more sound to it.
Just turn up the volume! 🤣🤣
@@srcastic8764 i agree
just make the speaker louder cat delete is free so that makes it even louder so yeah
This speaker is located in front of the car or back? I think I dont have this space sound for pedestrians on electric mode
The EV pedestrian alert sounds like they're filtering the interference from the drive inverter PWM signal.
Interesting take. Makes sense though. There would be a direct correlation.

The only way I’m aware of is to code it out. You can disable it in bimmercode but it will turn back on with every drive.
@@jankywhips1756 🤔 I wonder if there’s an independent fuse for this?
@@UnderTheBar There isn't. You end up disabling the entire audio system.
@@jankywhips1756 Damn, that blows. 🧐 maybe a hard reset would help or updating the software

three cylinder, slow car. there ya go.
Lmfao what a pathetic favorite sports car
@@eane1275 Top speed is actually electronically limited, so probably without it, it could go a lot faster 💀
I prefer as quiet as possible.
I've seen you lift and drink oat milk...
Can you post a link to the sound kit on sale ? Is it only able to connect to all cars or not?
As far as I know it’s just for the i8. If you google Maxxhaust you should be able to track it down.
Thanks for that info, do you have any knowledge of any other engine sound gadgets out there that's good as I don't have a BMW, lol, please and thank for anything that will help.
Why is the pedestrian warning on if the car is not moving? Its annoying
In EU its required
@@blademanx Nope. In Portugal i can turn off the sound with a button on my Leaf, even while moving.
Absolute silence
How does bmw know what a spaceship sounds like?
It sounds like an old Boeing 727
What a shame ! It’s all Fake sound effects thats actually sad the car looks dope but since all the engine sound is fake then whats the point buying it?
its an inline 3 sourced from a base model mini...the only reason to get this would be to flex
@@hertzwave8001 yea exactly i would not. Buy a car just to flex i would buy it couse i like it
To....drive..?
LISTEN HERE ITS NOT ALL FAKE 4:34 to 5:00 its not fully fake you hear the actual engine sound.
I wouldn’t buy it. I never buy just based on looks anyway.

Please someone put a b58 in a friggin i8 man. Replace the front electric engines with one it will literally be 9cyl man!
No way to fit a B58 in there. You could probably upgrade to the 2 liter 4 cylinder though.
This is stolen valor
Youll need fake sounds for all the Electrics coming out. Nothing people can do about it. On the outside its a regulatory requirement in EU
What a perfect piece of junk.lol.exhaustspeaker.
Hello brother can you give me your WhatsApp number
I have face same problem so how can I disable this voice
Sounds like a jetliner lol
