    the physical lay out and signal chain , to me, is confusing when people put the effects on top, and the pre amp below. I rack mine in order of signal chain. so i do pre amp on top, into effects, below it, effects into a BBE below that, BBE back up to 1st position pre amp, then from the pre amp out to the amp at the bottom position, out to the cabs. Also allows you to put a tuner in there between the pre and effects, you just by pass the effects so you dont listen to it weirdly while tuning. for your layout, between your pre and amp, you can get those smaller 2 or 3 inch patch cables you use for pedals and then you dont have to tuck anything.

    Nice rack man! I used to have a rocktron chameleon back in like 1990. I think thats the predecessor of the inteleflex

    Musician's Friend, giving away those rack setups back in they day? Some gear dates the times. Those were great times.

    Hey man, thanks for the video. Just a question, I want to hook up my rocktron piranha and intellifex to my mono tube amp, do plug the pirnaha in the front of the amp or the fx loop?

    Serious question. I just got an JMP-1, Alesis Quadraverb. I know how to hook the Quadraverb into the Marshall. Downloaded the owners manuals for both units. My question is, I don’t have a power amp, just a portable 6 channel PA system. Do I plug the main outs from the Marshall into the stereo in channels, or the emulated outs from the Marshall, to the stereo ins? The Pa does have a built in power amp, and two cabs. Just a bit confusing. Thanks in advance.

    I'm starting ot build my first rack. i got a U6 Rack with the furman 115amo, The eleven rack, Korg DTR-1 Rack tuner and the Mesa boogie 2 fifty power amp. I was wondering what cables i should get for jacks and power to power everything and how long? i want to buy those wires u have like that to make it more shorter tighty and cleaner. Thank you!

    Thanks for the helpful video. I was wondering, I sometimes see people throw a rack mixer like a Samson S10 into their rack. Is that for when you want to use both instrument level pedals along with line level rack effects or is it for when you have multiple rack effects units?

    • @gr8guitarplayer
      @gr8guitarplayer 3 роки тому +1

      I believe the answer can be for both situations. Basically its used as a helpful tool for getting your levels balanced out the way you want/need them, once you have more than just a few effects. But since most effects units have level adjustments, it can be done without a mixer. Also a mixer is used in large rigs (like EVH) in which you have several loops, and your "tone generator" amps miked up and sent to the mixer, then onto additional power amps (I think he used HH amps), then the final mix is sent to multiple stage cabinets. It gets complicated fast, as I see it, not to mention, large!
      I'm in the process of building my ultimate stereo rig, with a combination of pedals and rack effects, and I don't think I'll need a mixer. My previous stereo rig was an ADA MP-1 into 3 rack effects, then powered by a Mesa Stereo 50/50 into 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs, midi controlled with a Behringer FCB1010, and I didn't need a mixer. When I needed a particular preset to be a different volume, I copied a preset to a new location in the MP-1, and changed the master volume of that preset to suit whatever I needed that patch for (like a lead solo, for example.)

    Do you use Balanced Cables in your rack System ? What Reference Cables do you use and Balanced Jacks what do you use ?

    You plug left to left and right to right since you want to run the poweramp in stereo, but what if I want to run my poweramp (mesa fifty fifty) in mono ?

    • @callumartax
      @callumartax  4 роки тому +2

      Hey man, the EL84 is a dual mono block, so requires a constant load on both channels, yours will be totally fine just using one of there stereo outs (usually left is for mono). But any stereo effects will only get one side

      There's a little more you need to do if you only want to use your 50/50 in mono (I also have a 50/50.) I assume since you're asking this question you don't have the owner's manual (or haven't read it) for the amp, because that issue is addressed in the manual, and it's very important to do a couple more things. You must turn the Level control of the unused channel to zero to prevent transformer damage (and avoid premature power tube failure), and turn the Presence control all the way up (this instruction isn't actually in the 50/50 manual, but it is in both the 20/20 and 2:90 manuals, and since they're very similar in operation to the 50/50, I would follow this instruction as well) to avoid what is referred to in the manual as oscillation.
      I bought my Stereo 50/50 so I could have a stereo sound, and there's nothing like it. Yeah, you need 2 cabs (or a stereo cab) & a 2-channel pre amp (I've used an ADA MP-1as well as a Tri Axis), but with just a simple stereo chorus pedal or delay, the amount of extra fullness you get from your tone is amazing!

    What if your preamp has an L and R output but your power amp only has one input? Can you just pick one of the preamp outs and run it to the power amp?

    • @callumartax
      @callumartax  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah usually one of the stereo outputs has one dedicated for mono. If not it shouldn't matter too much if not
