Thanks for uploading! What I've seen of Vic and Bob's stuff has never really grabbed me before, but I loved this. I only just found these videos yesterday, and once I started watching I couldn't help binging the whole series. I expected batshit surreality, but was surprised and impressed by the compelling storytelling, gripping cliffhangers, nifty editing, skillful acting, and genuine emotional depth.
Catterick was panned by critics when it first came out. I really can't see why, its excellent and I think the strongest work they have ever done (I do fucking love their other stuff as well though). Some of the greatest bits of comedy dialogue are in this series. If you like this, have a look for The Weekenders, a pilot they made for a competition in the early 1990's. Its similar to this, but they are just young lads.
I think part of the reason may have been the critical mindset at the time. If you can accept that, regardless of credentials or credibility, critics are wankers, then it's fairly easy to accept that they consider themselves influencers, a word I hear a lot these days. In 2004, the comedy du jour was the more naturalistic one-camera comedy, kicked off in Britain by Gervais & Merchant. A lot more up its own arse than the balls out silliness of Vic & Bob. Were they to make Catterick from 2008 on, perhaps the critics wouldn't have been quite so sniffy.
I came very late to Catterick, actually very late to Vic & Bob in general really. But better late than never. I absolutely love their angles into comedy. People define it as surreal, or absurdist, or just plain silly. And all of those descriptions are fine. But to me, the single defining characteristic of their work is that it's joyous.
Clever plot, I have just found these fabulous guys, I have only seen Bob Mortimer in WILTY, now I know why everyone loves him. I am quite thrilled to have the same sense of humour as these wonderful comedians. I live in Australia, my son lived in England in the 90s, he has just told me these guys were is favourite. ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤
Rob: "So Bob, how do you know Micky?" Bob: "This is Micky Bell, he works for an estate agents and puts up the for sale signs by ramming them straight in the ground."
im actually from catterick garrison..and i agree it wasnt filmed anywhere up here..yet theyve used names of local places north allerton station there is a northallerton and it does have a train station...id love to know if theyve ever actually been to catterick seeing as vic/jim is darlington which is only a 10-15min drive up the road.
I really enjoyed this, been watching it all week! Can’t believe I missed this back in 2004🤦🏻🤣... I love Reeves and Mortimer, I found this by mistake! Been walking around all day saying “I knooooo!”🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Dead Parrot for posting this, I’m a trucker and get tired of shite I watch, this was really good😉👍🏻
5:10 I don't know why it's always funny when Vic Reeves pokes at or points at things with a pen. He did it on Shooting Stars. Just to make myself giggle, I used to do it at my old job when explaining to customers what options were part of a deal. I also love the intense eye contact and cheeky wink while blowing up the balloon.
This has been one of the strangest comedies I've ever seen & I loved it! Gonna watch them all again tonight! It's It's got the lady from Harry Enfield, a couple blokes from League of Gentlemen & some folks I remember from other stuff but can't recall from what & of course the guy from Little Britain.
Cheers Parrot, haven't seen these since they were aired. One series, after all the other shite that gets multiple series you have to wonder. The only hope I hold out is that they couldn't be arsed to write any more.
Yeah its been a while since i saw this, still funny as feck though, would love to see another series but i think it ended well, no loose ends or whatnot, bloody brilliant sitcom!
Took an episode or two to grow on me...ended up thinking it was great. Kinda binge watched the whole lot..like most right now, got a bit o time on me hands...(covid-19 thing future people)......peace yall.
All the attempts at sit com type series on TV by Vic & Bob seem to be discontinued after one or two series. Does no one else see the potential? House of Foiols was the best arround at the time, but was stopped. Similarly with this. Thanks for uploading.
When I started watching episode one I almost didn't stick with it. "More standard, tired Vic and Bob shenanigans", I thought. Boy, was I wrong. Glad I stuck with it.
Big Vic and Bob fan but I can see why this didn't get a second series. Some great daft laughs in the first few episodes and some great performances but overall kind of hard to watch. Bet it was fun to make though!
Bloody brilliant ! Top suggestion while stuck at home ,have a listen to bob and andy dawsons podcast athleticomince.com , I guarantee you wont be disappointed 😄
What a brilliant series. The only thing that could improve it would be getting rid of that self-promotional mark in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
Chris Palmer is my spirit animal.
"There goes the balloon I sent in to discourage 'em".
Shearsmiths balloon comment kills me every time I rewatch this.
Bob Mortimer is a surprisingly good romantic lead.
...And he came first in _several_ races at high-school!
I wish we could’ve had a second series, this is such a cliffhanger
Agree
One of the greatest shows of all time.
Now finding this for the first time...absolute genius!
Vic and Bob just never disappoint. Everything they do is gold and this might be up there as their best work aside from shooting stars.
No.
Better than 'Big Night Out'? Get a grip, lad!
Bob rates this as the best thing they did .
Thanks for uploading!

Tim Healys character was hilarious
What's the bet that they cut straight after Mark's kiss on the cheek because it was ad-libbed and everyone laughed?
Thanks for putting this up, I've been wanting to see it for ages but couldn't find it 👍

It's amazing. So many genres used, so many devices. Amazing cast. Music from Jeff Beck. Best one-off comedy of all time in my opinion

@@NxDoyle Yeah I completely agree.. I think this is actually ahead of it's time in many ways and it went completely over the head of the critics.
Yeah other commenter was right this was completely out of style at the time. Still brilliant though, critics are wanks
If this had come out when the mighty boosh got big critics would have been fawning over it
Ended up quite enjoying this show! Glad I stuck with it. Thanks for uploading it, DP.
This is just a saga now
"It might be yours" Brilliant.

Mark Benton. Never too late. Superb🙌
Cheers for putting these up. Under-rated unadulterated undiscribable undeniable brilliance. Understood BBC ? No ? I KNOOOW.
Wish the had done a 2nd series, absolutely brilliant...

i've always found it such a bloody amazing twist!
Rob: "So Bob, how do you know Micky?"
Bob: "This is Micky Bell, he works for an estate agents and puts up the for sale signs by ramming them straight in the ground."
The limo scene at the end cracked me up, funniest part of the series!
I've got everything these two have ever done on DVD or Video, without a doubt the most creative comedy duo this country has produced for decades.
ant and dec are better

Binge watched this on a Sunday afternoon, but that's it, the TV's going back on now. 😉🤣
Thank you for posting. X
Been meaning to watch this for a while and thoroughly enjoyed it. All in one sitting too.
Quite a lot of this was shot in my hometown...
Of Folkestone. Nowhere near Catterick.
Jon Page are you saying these Charlatan tv directors are throwing us a bent spoon you say? MY GAWD
I do not spook easily so you are wasting your time with these surprise attacks!

Catterick cannot be mentioned in our house without someone mentioning whicker shit

This is so sad, very beautiful too.
Ah knuuurr!

I'm from the future and I'm still stuck at home in lockdown watching Catterick.
@@ivorbiggun710 Thanks for your reply future person 👍
Yeah I know
Love the music in this.
I'll never understand how did this not get a second series yet the BBC churn out series after series of utter shite like Mrs Brown's Boys
Comic
I think they kind of 'shot their load' so to speak on these six episodes. If you like that kind of thing then definitely watch Psychoville
@@MrArchie800 I'm so glad I scrolled through the comments and found this. Watching Psychoville now. Brilliant!

Creative brilliance.
What a marvelous example of British dark comedy ... Hilarious.
Nasty dog! Naughty dog!

A QUALITY ACT.. INDEED!

Sadly this was all for Catterick. 6 fantastic episodes.
Pure quality
STARDIVE!!
Wicker Shit.
Do you know of any other programmes like this with vic and bob ?
When I started watching episode one I almost didn't stick with it. "More standard, tired Vic and Bob shenanigans", I thought. Boy, was I wrong. Glad I stuck with it.

Fruit cake? Great fun.
Eric Fox *was* a fucking legend, that's the tragedy.
Free - only my soul

The turkey in the box was funny though...ah feck it maybe they should have made a second series.
Fucking brilliant series 😂😂😂
My first guess was Plonker Rodney was his, my second guess was correct one.
Pmsl 🤣🤣
Star dive. Cool. Reminds me of kamen rider
jaysus mary and joseph!
Siberian Khatru :)
This proves the BBC is not fit for purpose. Denying us a second series of a masterpiece in favour of an untold amount of shite. Amazing series.
Stardivvvvvvvveeeeeeeee
Ithink hoover head henry is bobs boy....
Nice bit of Free at the end
Boss.
It's the evil dead
It’s a great series but bloody hell they really are monetising the hell out it adverts wise!
What adverts? "Ublock Origin" browser addon.
Come on man - an Amiga fan should be tech savvy!

A bit dated now but still very funny :)
It's timeless. Even when it came out it looked " dated " . It's their own unique world in my opinion
