I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Draper. Jon Hamm is phenomenal in the role and boy is he sexy. A man's man. He is what i would call my fantasy man.
What is funny about this kind of comment is: they don't understand the series. Mad Men is not about praising that kind of behavior, is about making a social comment about that era.
In TV and studio Movies, the chain of command/veto is labyrinthian. Just because you wrote something and are driving the car, doesn't mean that there aren't a hundred backseat drivers who are paying for each fill-up.

jon hamm is phenomenal, but the writing on this show could make damn near any actor with a sag card look charming and appealing to women cuz its that damn good.. shiit look how they make campbell.. that actor gets a ton of ass on this show, and he looks like he should be an inmate somewhere..
John Hamm as Don Draper > George Clooney. But Clooney is a stylish, smooth mo-fo in plenty of roles. Hamm looks kind of dorky as any character other than Draper.
No...the guy who played the hardass on Deadwood would have been a decent Don Draper....Timothy Olyphant has that sort of presence....but I think they got it right on with Jon Hamm.
