Why 20 Franc Gold Coins are AWESOME for Gold Stacking
Вставка

- In this video I talk about 20 Franc Gold Coins and why they are AWESOME for Gold Stacking! The European 20 Franc Gold Coin gets most of its value from the gold content in the coin. Each 20 Franc Gold Coin contains .1867 Troy Ounces of Pure Gold. The 20F Gold Coins are 90% Gold which makes them 21.6K. The most common 20 Franc Gold Coins are the France Gold 20 Francs Rooster and the Swiss Gold 20 Francs Helvetia. After the currency treaty was signed in 1865 many other European Countries started making their own versions of the 20 Franc Gold Coin. These Gold Coins are great for Gold Stacking today because they are very liquid and because they can be bought near spot or even below spot! I will be looking for good deals on these in the future and will be trying to acquire the swiss 20 franc gold coin and the french 20 franc gold rooster as well!

Topics I cover in this video: 20 Franc Gold Coins, 20 franc gold coin, 20 franc gold, 20 franc gold rooster, swiss 20 franc gold coin, stacking 20 franc gold coins, european 20 franc gold coin, european 20 franc gold coin value, 20f gold coins, France Gold 20 Francs Rooster, Swiss Gold 20 Francs Helvetia, gold stacking, gold coin, gold coins, french 20 franc gold rooster
I live in Switzerland. Here the Helvetia 20 gold francs, or "Vreneli" as they are nicknamed with affection, are popular, as are the also plentiful French roosters. Compared to newer under 1 ounce gold rounds, they are cheaper. An advantage is that they are as small in diameter as common currency coins. If you have to bail out with gold by plane, you can mix your gold with your small change in your wallet so that the scanner staff of the airport security will not be alarmed as easily as when you would try to slip full 1 ounce gold coins of larger diameter trough.
Und falls der Zoll fragt, wieso haben Sie 20x20 Gold Vreneli?
Antwort: wieso nicht...sind nur 20Fr/Münze :))
I'm traveling to Basel around July, I will try to find some of this coins :D Do you have any recommendation ?
@@elpasito Credit Suisse bank in Basel
Rob Endert nice ai love fractional cheap gold compared to 1 ouncers for sure 🔥🐉
Hoi Rob. Sieht der Scanner echtes Gold auf dem Bildschirm?
I'm French and these little 20 Francs gold coins are the most popular, easy to buy and sell gold coins of all. The French 20 Francs gold coin comes in 5 different designs: Napoleon III tête nue (naked head), Napoleon III tête laurée (crowned with laurel), Genius (lucky angel), Marianne-Coq (rooster) and Ceres (Roman goddess) that you've presented.
I have the Napoleon one and looking to buy more
@@Saint696Anger It's the right time to buy more, the price of gold is favorable.
I plan on getting my hands on some of the roosters. I find the design of the rooster and Ceres to be beautiful and I really respect the use of the two as the symbols for the French people.
Where do you buy?
@@belloviper Where I am, Monument Metals usually has the best price but you gotta shop around and check to see what all deals are going on on each site
In Albania, husbands will buy these for their fiancé's when they get engaged, they buy them in the form of necklaces, but now they've also started to sell as rings. These are a great investment.
These are the perfect combination between coin collecting and stacking!
Penguin Gaming oh yeah and cheap for sure!!! 🔥🐉

love your videos! Quick lesson to read italian vowels: A (as in alphabet), E (as in epiphany), I (as in indulgent), O (as in olive), U (double O). Always. Another hint: we use H to make C and G hard. So that CHE and CHI are read as KE and KI. Apart from this rule, you read Italian as it's written. I managed to teach a Thai guy to read Italian in five minutes (but he could speak English).
I think you´re absolutely right here, collecting the small gold coins from the first European monetary union, also called the Latin European gold union, based on the French 20Fr gold coins. Many countries joined, like you said, a nice variety, and affordable. Other collectibles are of course the British Sovereigns, the German Marks and being Scandinavian, we had a good Scandinavian gold union here too, with gold coins of 8.06 grams of pure gold, so true quarter ounces, less variation but fine for gold stacking. Feels nice in your hand. Most affordable are the Danish 20 kroner, and half of that size, the 10 kroner. 90% pure.
Be No yes these are a great option!!! thanks for watching my friend!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
My favourite is the French gold rooster.
I'm wanting some $10 pre-33 gold. I love it in your videos when you mention spot price because in like a year if the price is through the roof, someone watching the video would be like "why wasn't I buying then!!!"
Judge Stacker oh yeah true story I have to check when the video was published and a quote on the day for spot would hit the spot
Judge Stacker lol I remember watching a video of a kid unboxing silver in 2011 and spot was like $33 😂🔥🐉
I stack 20 franc pieces. I recently bought a 1oz gold Buffalo and I got a sick feeling in my stomach just because of price. I would much prefer 5-6 gold 20 frank pieces over a 1oz. Plus I love the history.
The .9999 Buffalo is a beautiful coin tho isn't it?
well yea I'd prefer 6 also. thats 11% more than 1 oz! 5 not so much!
@@polarroller for sure, it's my only 1 oz gold piece and I'm glad to have it.
Michael Whitt yeah I hear that! I really want that buffalo though myself 😂🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 Yea, i have it, and would gladly trade it for 6 20 Franc coins :)
I have a bunch of these sovereign type coins. Didn’t like them at first, love them now.
Vertical Stacker yeah I think they are super cool!!! 🔥🐉
I just received one 20 Franc gold coin yesterday. I paid less than 7% premium...that's a million times better than the current high silver premiums.
Where did you buy?
Ive picked up alot of these over the years but the 1902 Rooster I got awhile back is still my fav of the bunch because it has absolutely no wear but the toning is unbelievable. It has an almost copper patina that really stands out next to newer gold coins. Francs are great for so many reasons. Great vid
Just bought my first one of these, the one with the cockerel. Awsome coins and great pieces of history too.
Just keep in mind when you go to sell you will get less than spot. Some dealers wont touch them, just like sovereigns. I learned this lesson the hard way. But if you never intend to sell, best deals around.
It is an excellent Vlog with tons of valuable advice.
Just started stacking 20 franc and sovereign gold coins, low premium and affordable size😀
With roughly 80 years of production, from numerous countries, there's a lot of room for counterfeits. Make sure you know/trust the seller. Fractional Au is definitely one of the best investments, in my opinion.
Google User exactly got to avoid the fakes!!! 🔥🐉
I have a nice Napoleon 20 Frank from 1811. Nice tone to it.
Dan wow that is so awesome!!!! over 200 years old!!!!!! 😮😮😮🔥🔥🔥🐉
Just got my first Rooster, 1910. Really a beautiful coin!
Cool you got a "Ceres". That particular "Napoleon" coin was from the Second Republic, which lasted 1848-1852. These were replaced by the Second Empire "Napoleon", showing Emperor Napoleon III, who reigned from 1852-1870, definitely one of my favourites.
The Italian 20 lire is also a 0.1867 gold coin.
Dale Pak yep it is in the same family!!! there are like 50 of them! 🔥🐉
Nice. I have the Dupré guardian angel gold 20 franc. I like the legend behind it. It has brought me great luck. No guillotine for me.
Rocky Mountain Bear that is awesome and those are very cool!!! 🔥🐉
I have a 20 franc gold coin from 1913. I want to know how much its real price is
That's an official restrike from the Paris Mint from 1951 to '60. It's real price is whatever the price of gold is currently.
Love the 20 francs...all types. Perfect size gold coins to hold in-hand. Gotta get as many as you can! Thanks!
iamgogi for sure I want more! 😂 thanks! 🔥🐉
Bought some angles and roosters when gold was around 400$ an once.
Richard Simpson 😮😮😮that is super cool!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉

Lol
Beside the French and Swiss 20 Franc coins there's also the Italian 20 Lire coin. As part of the latin monetary union they're exact same specs as 20 Franc, size, dimensions, everything. Also worth looking for. They do tend to have a slightly higher numismatic value but can still be found cheap. As well as Francs the Lire also exists in 10 Lire versions. Living in Europe I love vintage European coins. While it is true that usually dealers buy them slightly below spot they also sells not too far above spot for their size so they still have a nice small spread and thus being a very good choice in their size range.
Another coin that also tends to have small spread is the Austrian 1 Ducat restrike. Also worth looking for. Very unique .986 alloy which have a very nice color - imho nicer than pure gold.
Probably my favorite Frenc coin is the Angel coin - who doesn't fall in love with that legend. Another favorite is the Danish 10 and 20 kroner from 1908-1912. Probably the most detailed gold coins ever made. If you get a good clear strike it's amazing all those small details you can see with a loupe. Not many coins come close to that and vertainly not any modern coins I know of. They took their time to make details you need a magnifier to see!
Amazing channel. Love you.
Roosters and sovereigns are great for stacking I love them . Problem in Australia the government charges 10% GST tax on anything that’s not at least 999 pure gold and silver .
But your spot on about frugal gold stacking they are always a great option
Its taxed too in Canada, but when you sell them they are capital gains taxe free ( same with junk silver ) . For long term its definetly worth it .
Maxime Allard Australia gets slammed with capital gains on selling our gold
rodney Kasputtis gotcha those taxes are a real bummer!!!! 🔥🐉
I love these little 20 franc French gold coins as well. Usually available at a reasonable price and help to bulk the gold stack up nicely 😎 Great that you have shined the light on these little beauties😁
Trevor H yes these are awesome for sure!!! fun to stack!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
Cool vid man! I pretty much stick to gold from Canada, USA and Mexico myself!! Maybe in the future I will set my sights across the pond!
Roger S nice! I need to get a canadian maple 😏🔥🐉
You hit it on the head. These are my secrets (together with our 90% $5 commemorative and Dutch Ducats). They are all around same size and gold contents. I easily find them at/under spot.
Ziegen Sauger oh yeah and under spot is awesome!!! 🔥🐉
Beautiful coin my friend. I've got an Austrian 20fr coin, the French rooster and Swiss Helvetica are still on my list. Thanks for sharing.
Alexander R De Voogt very cool!!! I really want that rooster 😂🔥🐉
Oh... that's why I have a 20 Fr. Austrian coin... now I get it!
I’m paying off my first gold coin and you just taught me how to figure out the coins worth....😩 I am paying way too high a premium! Now I know how to check for future purchases. I’ve only ever purchased silver, so gold is new. Thank you for the education.
henry corichi yeah you got to get those premiums down! it’s all good my friend live and learn... good luck with the stacking!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
Thanks Silver Dragons. It’s good information for when I can start stacking gold. Always doing my research. 🔥🔥🔥
Bead Demon you are welcome and these are a great thing to get when you start! 👍🏽🔥🐉
The Latin Monetary Union was around from 1865 to 1927... You said 1965! 😀. Also, these coins were first minted in France by Napoleon in the very early 1800s and were produced in Europe and elsewhere until at least 1949...
pyrotechnicien yes the treaty ended in 1927 but lots of different countries still made these in some fashion well after that.. it was a generalization 😏🔥🐉
Napoleon actually minted 10F, 20F and 40F coins, but I guess it was the middle one that became the classic ‘goldilocks’ size - not too big and not too small.
Love the content. This size of coin. Affordability. I do not know about anyone else and I consider this my weakness. But I want to buy something every two weeks at least. More lately I want it to be gold. This fits the bill.
Steve Woods yeah these are a great option!!! I need more lol 🔥🐉
Thats what i do. I try to get one every week or two. Definitely every paycheck.
I love Roosters (20 francs) but had a hell of a time selling them. I guess the takeaway is never sell your gold. Especially if it's French.
Hard time in terms of acceptance or discount to spot?
@@MacGyver7640 both.
@@2is1gold got it, thanks! Still puzzles me that 200 year old coins can sell at melt!
If I were stacking as you do I’d go for the liquidity of buffalos or eagles as you suggest. But I just love the history! Blows my mind that I can pick up these 200-year old 20 francs at melt.
Another pro for those coins is that 90%gold 10%copper actually makes them durable. Accidental drop is not an issue while you can damage your 24 carat kangaroos just by touching them.
I've trying to complete Morgans and Peace Dollars before I take on anything else! Great information to have!
Rita Doyle wow what a cool goal!!! good luck!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
Never thought about stacking these until now great video
rebelboy 77 Collins they are a great option and thanks! 🔥🐉
Always worried about counterfeit gold coins so I try to stick with what I know maples and eagles I may try one day when confident on what I’m getting is truly gold thank you for the video will do my research
C Barrett yeah you have to buy from legit dealers when buying these... also congrats on that recent spot gold purchase!!! 🔥🐉
Get a sigma tester.
Like mentioned above, buy from a legit seller. Weigh and measure with a pair calipers.

Northern Silver Stacker you are very welcome my friend!!! thanks for watching!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
I’m a fan of the gold roosters
Don’t have any of these yet, but I will be getting some francs and beans soon. 🤪
Stacking Stormtrooper nice get em bro!!! 🔥🐉
Don't forget the marks in the guilders there fun to
I love these, and have four in my stack!
Fiat Destroyer that is awesome! they are very fun 😁🔥🐉
The 10 francs are a nice alternative to the 1/10th ounce as well. Same reasons you stated for the 20 francs
Maple leaf metals oh yeah and cheaper than the SOVS!!!! 🔥🐉
Why do the Krugerrands look so much more copper even though they have a higher gold percentage than these 20 franc coins?
Jup, When I buy small gold coins it's these European Francs / Lira's etc. and of course The Gold Ducta. Cheers !
silver.international nice they are very cool gold coins to buy!!! 🔥🐉
This coin is named 20 Francs Cérès in France
All Great reasons to buy a 20 francs 👍🔥🐉
Silver Ripples for sure and thanks for watching my friend!!!! 🔥🐉
I'd rather buy these at 7% premium than pay a 20% premium for regular fractional gold. can't buy them at my local coin shops because they want a higher premium than apmex
Hey did how ya doing, I like the Maple leafs my self 99.9 gold👍
Marty R i’m great and they are actually 9999😆🔥🐉
I got the same coin as my giveaway,, its a beauty!
The History is simple. It's gold.
French and Swiss 20f coins sell for a lower premium over gold than bullion coins, which doesn't make any damned sense to me but there it is.
You said the treaty was 1965. That should be 1865.
Thoughts--- French Francs Marianne Rooster vs Swiss Francs Vreneli ?
I definitely want to add a gold coin to my collection this year and have been working on how to do that. I'm just so nervous about being taken advantage of. I don't know enough about them yet and some of the videos I've seen on counterfeits lately have made me very nervous. Congrats on your beauty, good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Clayton County History Hound I would say buy locally and have them test it with their verified before you buy!!!! thanks my friend 🔥🐉
I purchased a few of these back in February. I paid around $340 out the door. I use a local coin shop.
@@jennahenry4426 , Thanks. I'll definitely have to find a coin shop that I can trust. The closest one is an hour drive and when I stopped there he told me he only sells on ebay and basically didn't have time to pull coins to show me. Next nearest is about two and a half hours away lol. I'll definitely stop there next time I'm that way. Wishing you all the best, good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Great information I mainly keep too ¼ Canadian. 9999 gold, but I do enjoy buying other coins that have a piece of history.
Calzone I wanna get me a canadian 1/4 so bad 😜🔥🐉
Thanks for this informative video. Just so you know, At 1:42, you say "each one contains ONE point 867..." but it reads as "0.1867." Maybe someone else has already pointed this out as I am latecomer to this video and have not read the comments.
Very nice! I wish I had some! 😀
Dan’s Collectables thanks! go get one! 😜🔥🐉
Silver Dragons maybe someday! 😀
Cheapest i can find is about $20 over spot on Ebay but most are charging about $40 it seems
Don't you have to pay capital gain on hold bullion. Is there away to avoid it?
I’m thinking about getting into gold, so if I can ask, what’s the price comparison dollar for dollar of the 1/10 AGE vs the .18 oz ? ( as the better buy dollar to dollar each item) oh, and also price comparison to the .23 sovereign.
I’m looking to start stacking
Eli usually you will find that sovs and 20francs have much lower premiums that the 1/10th oz... good luck!!! 🔥🐉
Silver Dragons indeed I have found that to be the case. Thank you for your input !!!
Yes, premiums lower than a 1/10 oz bullion coin.. But it seems an lcs will offer less than spot to buy and act like you are insulted his daughter when he gives you $ for them
Besides U.S. may be my favorite pre 33 Gold! Great info buddy!😊👍
PART TIME PREPPERS nice these are the European version of the pre 33 😂🔥🐉
What local coin shop do you go to?
What are your thoughts on the Indian head gold coins? They are similar in size as far as gold content. I have been looking at them as well as roosters.
Eric Parnell I love me some pre33 US gold!!!! I really wanna get some next 😁🔥🐉
Do you think they are strong enough to not have them in capsules?
Yes, no capsules needed because at one point it was just regular money (and the only real money with silver lol)
Where do you get these for spot price??? I’m paying at least 7% over spot
Yup
I understand the dollar amount over spot per coin, but how do you calculate what it would be at the 1 troy oz level over spot? My LCS has melt + $18 and trying to figure out if that's a good deal or not?
Great info, I was considering buying some but I felt I didn't know enough about them. I try to stick with mainly Canadian Maples for purity purposes but I do buy some American Eagles every now and then. I think I'll check some of these francs out. Thank-you for the information Godbless.
WeeBee Gold and Silver nice now you know more about them 😜 thanks for watching!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐉
What size cap do these fit in?
For me probably only from a major dealer.... I could be tricked. Would rather pay 5 or 10 more and be able to sleep.
Steve Woods my LCS tests everything with their verifier when they buy and sell 🔥🐉
The other ones like from Poland and Serbia are high premium.
So I would not buy them unless you are a collector. I stay with the cheap coins. Since I'm Belgian this will mostly be Leopold's.
The one you have has the head of Ceres. They carry a bit of a premium you are very lucky to get that.
SilverBlackBird1989 yeah some of these have high premiums for sure... wow that is cool that this one base some numismatic value!!! I got it at spot 😜🔥🐉
I live in USA, I stack the British Sovereign. I don't have any of the gold Francs or the Swiss counterpart.
I also like Sovereigns. i love the low premium.. also have 20f coins in stack good price point
Polar Roller these are a great option just like the sovs.... stack on!! 🔥🐉
Im hooked on European gold . i got french and Belgium francs, Marks, sovrighns, guilders and somthing else im sure. My local coin shop guy said i was stupid for stacking them. I like them and i van isully get nice coins for 2% over spot. Tjat and half eagles is all i been stacking. It was nice when you could get one for 240 bucks. Dazedandconfused stacker wow you have quite the collection!!! I can’t wait to see that video!!! 🔥🐉
Been on 7 10s got a longer crsppy vide. Havent had time to make nice one
Early French 20's and 40's used to be fairly common, and a really good value. I have some from 1809, 1810, 1811, and 1812. Roosters were later, and very pretty, but not quite as cool as the original Napoleon Bonaparte coins.
Richard Alexander for sure! I really want a rooster now 😂🔥🔥
I've got two-1818, one-1817 and one-1824.

Lira, Lire sounds like "Leera"!
20 Francs are great, and are fundamental in my stack. I stack 20 Francs from all over Europe, 25 pesetas and 1 Sovereign for my fractionals under .25 oz. What I like most about this coin is the price (can be bought at or below spot), and also the fact that they are not faked. I've seen many many fake (real gold but not actually minted by the government) Sovereigns, 25 pesetas etc
I heard you mention you have heard of them faked, but I never have
Michael Silverman the more numismatic ones have been faked for sure... the bullion ones probably less... they are great though!!! 🔥🐉

I have 20 franc gold coin of 1927..want to sale
At about 1:45 you say "one point eight six seven ... " but screen said "0.1867 troy ounces" or "less than 1/5 of an oz". I had wondered why one commenter here said that buying 1oz gold buffalo made him sick but 5-6 gold 20 frank "over a 1oz" was preferable. So you simply misspoke -- but made me feel smarter for figure out what you meant to say 😀😁 I don't think the coin says how much gold is in it (next time put coin in holder so it is still), so without that I doubt I'll ever purchase one. Regular folks (not coin dealers/vendors) who don't recognize them may not believe me if I swear they are "0.1867 troy ounce".
Debby S-AbqNM 😂😂😂😂😂😂 yes I said it wrong so I put the right thing on the screen... I didn’t want to refilm the whole video 😏🔥🐉
SD, I don't blame you, not wanting to redo whole video! I'm glad you put the true number on the screen a bit later, that clears up any misunderstandings! 🤩😁😊
these have been around for a long time and issued by many countries. You can handle them so easy to test with just a scale and calipers for a good handle on authenticity. Anyone can check online to find the 0.1867 AGW. For me 0.1867 is easy to remember because Canada 🇨🇦 was born in 1867.
SD and GS are noticeably cosmopolitan for Americans and are to be congratulated on their open-mindedness and sophistication. Most Americans are consciously or unconsciously insular in their thinking:'if it ain't American it ain't no good'.

Cool video, thanks. A similar type of coin also is the Franc Joseph coin which comes in two sizes, 3.49g and the 4x larger 13.96g and both are 98.6% gold. It was used as currency up to 1915. and after that Muenze Osterreich started making them as collectable/investment coins
At 9:40 you mention it has been faked. As far as I know only very easy to spot fakes have been done (wrong dimensions or weight) or it'sa gold coin melted into an older gold coin.
I called a local We Buy Gold here place today. And ask him if they had any Frank's or european gold. Oh, and the guy said yep, we do. I'll sell you all you want for 3% above spot. . That's without even walking in there talking to the guy or even try and negotiate.. So I think I'll probably just get away from that spot or maybe 1% over spot for your walk in there with about a grand and my Sigma tester
