This house is a prime example why foreign buyers should not be allowed to buy a place unless they plan to live in it. I know that Canadians do this too but at least it would cut down on the frequency of abandonment. This is such a shame. In the good old days and also in places without accessible utilities for central heating, the only way to heat a place was with a fireplace in each room. These days it's easy with solar or thermal heating. I'll never figure out what kind of twisted pleasure people get in destroying a place. Thank you for the smooth movement of your camera, it makes it easier to watch the video.

@@1868foxpoint Canada currently has the most over-priced real estate in the world. The inflation in prices has been greater than what the US had prior to its bubble bursting. The last couple of years has produced >25% price inflation yoy, continually. More than half of all properties sold are purchased by buyers who already own other properties. It sounds very solid, not rickety and shaky in the least.
It is all cosmetic, that place took a whole lot of abuse and would need a complete gut rehab down to the frame. That timber framing in those walls is something else.
In today's prices if they are asking $10 million for the property it would probably need at least $5 million or more to bring it back to its former glory.
A very beautiful home, beautiful property and a total shame what happened to it. I would love to see pictures of what it once was.
Who knows what evil was brought into it while abandoned and trashed.

This is such a beautiful part of North America. My Family moved to Florida in the 90's but the folks got married in Vancouver and honeymooned on Vancouver Island in 1958. We had a chance to take a trip up there and flew into Bellingham. We traveled all over, went to Whistler, etc. I was born and raised in Michigan but the winters just got too cold. Now we deal with sink holes, hurricanes and for the first time since I moved here in 1995, tornadoes. We are the Town that was hit by 5 tornadoes in Jan of 2022. I really enjoyed your narration. Is there a way you might be able to find out more history on these old homes that you can share? The history you talked about was great but maybe more detail on why someone would invest in a property like this and then not rent it or use it as a B&B?
I'm looking forward to the next one!

That house is by all means rebuildable. The main issue is not much if any interior water damage to the inside. It would take someone with deep pockets to rebuild but it could be done. It would make one hell of a vacation home. The water in the basement is due to, what looks like, downspouts and gutters not taking water away from the foundation.
As for the small fireplaces, those are for burning coal. Great video!

How sad! I'd think B.C. would have at least tried to purchase the home and turn it into a house museum. One of the best classic movies Thompson directed was "Cape Fear" from 1962. As someone who is into film preservation, why a filmmaker's house is turned into a huge mess like this, is beyond my comprehension.

I would be so nervous walking on some of those floors, thinking I may fall through haha!
What a shame with all that graffiti. Still a pretty cool place to explore. I always enjoy you finding the original decor/hardware of the house! So interesting!! ☺️

That's a strange house, black room, etc. Beautiful door hardware. This house seems a little spooky to me. Maybe it's just me.

Must have been a beautiful property once. The additional scenery was amazing, thanks Brent. But so much destruction and disregard for the actual house is very sad.

Hi Brent. Really nice views here. House is so trashed. Damning the stupid vandals. Too bad about the house. Bet it was gorgeous then. Fantastic. I'd love a house here. Bit further back though. Awesome Brent. Take care.

Nice house and nice views. Pretty trashed and the graffiti is horrible. I saw the listing for the house online. And the bath tub in the elevator is pretty bad too. Those old houses have the servant quarters which I really like. Thanks for the explore

    Hi Brent
I am new to your channel and watched a few of your videos and liked them so I
decided to subscribe. This house was very big and had a cool elevator. I think
that this house could have been nicer for someone who was a movie director.
Maybe it is all the graffiti that made this house look so unattractive. I wish you
would have got on film the seals you spoke of. Overall this was an interesting
video and enjoyable. I do appreciate the warning you gave us about the graffiti.
Will be looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Stay safe and dry out
    there. Until next time……
