For what it’s worth to anyone, I hired Nick for $100 for an hour of advice about an upcoming trip to Portugal….it was some of the BEST money I have spent…what a great, smart guy…use him if you can
Just a thought when you were mentioning travel between Faro and Lisbon, I used flix bus for this and the journey cost €8.90 and was a lovely comfortable journey
@@AlgarveAddicts Hi Nick, thank you for the reply. We will be in the Algarve the entire trip. First half meeting up with friends then next half staying in Tavira. I might take you up in that. I’ll reach out on your website. Thanks again.
I would add "get used to live simply". If you decide to live in Portugal you must make your mind up and realise you cannot be too materialistic. Choose another country instead. Lisbon is not Paris. And you cannot think that Portugal is only the Algarve, Lisbon or Porto. Be prepared to discover and explore. Some foreigners are living in the centre of Portugal, lliving off-grid and feeling happy with their options. Others just complain even when they have benefits that we, the locals, don't have. Portugal is not perfect, but is certainly not a dump, as a bitter old British once wrote.
Heading to Portugal after summer season. Looking forward to touching bases with you & taking in a personal info session. My friends live in Figueira da Foz but I’m interested in quieter parts of the Algarve. I really enjoy your videos……very informative & nicely organized. Will be in touch. Thanks !
Introduced my then fiance to Portugal in December 2018. We spent Christmas with my mom (our last one bc she passed away). We flew to Madrid and then to Porto where we stayed in the Ribeira. Loved our walks, restaurants and quaint little shops. We then rented a car and drove to Viana Do Castelo. We spent Christmas in Moledo Do Minho, and then drove to Lisbon where we spent three days before flying back to Toronto. Our next trip will be to Algarve. I used to spend a few weeks during school summer holidays there and lived in a few towns before emigrating to Canada. I'd like to show Algarve to my hubby and see if he likes it better than the North. We found it very damp and didn't like to see the mold on the exterior of the houses. We kept in mind that it was Winter. We liked Lisbon. Hopefully, he'll like Algarve. We are planning to rent a car and drive to most towns. 👍
Nick 4;45 May I kindly ask ? What beach is that ? Super video Nick ! I wish your “paid assistance “ had been available three years ago when I moved here ! I think you have a compelling clarity on the issues. Honesty and integrity. 👍
Hey Max, thank you for your wonderful words and since you asked so kindly that was Tavira Beach in the early morning during the pandemic last year (hence the lack of people).🤣👍🏼
Hey Max...you can get a boat and go to a very secluded beach. You can walk for miles and the water only reaches your knees just like in Isla Mujeres in Mexico.
@@MARIADaSilva-dw9cs Bom Dia Maria, Estou curioso, você poderia gentilmente sugerir alguns. I’ve lived here for three years and have become a tad “bogged down” with my choice of beach 🏖!
My friend, being a portuguese i would never say that (milk & honey)! I would answer with a question: what drives the american pioneers throu the wild west? The need. Always the need. Probably the same need that drives the poorest corner of Europe to the sea, to the unknown. And the best defenition IMHO still the one of our greatest poet: “the country where the land ends n the sea begin”!
Hey Jessi, yes it will become more of an issue in the future but I'm used to it coming from Cape Town in South Africa where drought was a fairly common thing. Someone else posted that you need bottled water here, that is untrue. In most areas the water from the taps is fantastic!
Hi Nick, coming form the Uk people are being held to ransom by crippling utilities costs, transport and council tax. Pensioners will die this winter, also concerning the healthcare system NHS is broken. And crime and violence is rocketing! I know where I'd rather be. Some of your concerns make me chortle, compared to life here!! LMAO.
I saw you riding an MTB, which is great. But how dangerous is it to ride a bike on the road in Portugal (as opposed to a bike trail where there is no/little traffic)? I heard Portuguese drivers do not particularly care for bicyclists.
It's not so much that they don't care, it's that the roads are pretty small in many places. Often the cyclists don't care for the cars and ride three abreast. It's a bit of an issue and there are campaigns to leave 1.5m for cyclists. I prefer the quieter trails.
Portugal is a poor (compared to europe's standard) ruled by corrupt people. It's allmost like any tropical corrupted and poor countries. And this foreign investment just got real state prices unbearable! Thank you! Much better now!
Portugal is fantastic, but healthcare (public and private) are at best 2nd world (long waiting times, strikes, expertise is questionable), also public transportation is really bad but perhaps this is understandable considering the low population density of some areas. Never the less I feel for the poor people working in restaurants or hospitals that have to get home after 22:00. Politics I don't care about, this is a mess everywhere you go. Just a waste of time if you ask me 🙂

Excellent stuff, thanks Matt. That's way cheaper than a car which could cost €100-140 for a round trip.
We are in scouting phase. Heading there in two weeks. Very excited and my wife and I love your videos Nick.
Thank for the compliment. I hope you get what you want our of your trip. If you want a guide for a day, I have good people.

Portugal is great. The tax system is very unfair on locals and expats, though. For expats, the housing is a bargain.
Dude you really make it look easy . Thanks
It can be, but rarely is 🤷
So glad to hear you're getting a team together, most I've seen are out of the Lisbon area
It's hard work but it's happening. Cheers Steve. 👍🏼

A delightful quiet retirement place have a look a Tavira. No tourists.

That's quite the ranking. Even the Republic of the Congo (ranked 111th) is safer than the USA (129th).
Yup, it's pretty amazing reading.
Hey Nick, I keep hearing about water being an issue in the Algarve. Are you concerned about water shortages in the Algarve?
No more than any other warm country.

Yes water is an issue in the Algarve.
You actually need to by bottled water for drinking. Yucks

Do you have wells in that region of Portugal for landscape and house water??
Yup. More and more difficult to get though as there are so many.
Great video. Looking for property in Tavira . Please advise.

Exactly! It's all a question of relevance and comparisons to where you're coming from. Life is getting harder for the locals here too.
In the Algarve there’s more than 15,000 restaurants
Wow, that's a ton! Where's the list?

Just one minor correction - unfortunately, the pandemic definitely is NOT OVER. It’s improved (for the moment), but could flare at any moment.
Fair enough. 👍🏼

I've heard a lot of people say how amazing the healthcare is. Everyone has their own story though.

Is your home for sale? 😉
Nope, but thanks for the offer :)))
