Thank you for showing us! Also, I hear that the leaves are a super food even more nutritious than the heads. Great sauted with garlic and olive oil and a little lemon.
My pleasure!
I just learned about seeding tongs this year - they are specifically made to get the seedlings out of those trays very easily. I found mine on Amazon.
Thanks so much for sharing that tip! Seeding tongs sound like a game-changer for handling seedlings-I'll definitely check them out. Sorry for the late reply! If you have any more gardening tricks or tips, feel free to share. Happy gardening! 🌱😊
GREAT video!!! And YES it put me off planting cauliflower in my small urban garden since I have a small planting window AND not a lot of space both of which cauliflower clearly needs.... but yours were BEAUTIFUL 😍🥰
That is awesome!
Those huge thick leaves would be amazing for some chips. Do you not eat them? If you have a dehydrator or oven you can marinate the leaves over night and place them in the dehydrator or oven and when they're done they're crispy and delicious, very addictive. 🥰
Great idea!
Or in a stew like cabbage I'm sure. Wonder what the flaviur is like
@@lisaleathers that would be great as well. The leaves taste a lot like a mix between Kale and cabbage. Very delicious.
Thank you soo much for showing us, i planted cauliflour today and this video really inspired me
My pleasure 😊
Great video 👍🏻 I love the time lapse shots!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I use a spoon to scoop them out. When i tip the tray to the side, sometimes they end up upside down 😅 thank you for the video, i didn't know when to transplant for first time. Package said not to large... Now I know
I totally get it! Transplanting can be tricky, and using a spoon is a clever idea. Just keep an eye on those little cauliflower seedlings, and you'll do great. If you ever have more questions or need tips, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱😊
Thanks for your detailed instructions, some UA-cam gardeners are playing music only while demonstrating their gardening techniques without any verbal or written instruction which frustrates viewers and leaves the viewer with
an abundance of questions and no way to get answers.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks!
Great video! Can the cauliflowers stay in the ground a while once ready so they don’t get wasted? Thanks
Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, once cauliflower heads are ready for harvest, you can leave them in the ground for a little while to extend their freshness. However, be sure to check them regularly as they can deteriorate quickly if left for too long. Harvesting them at their peak ensures the best taste and texture. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions! 😊🌱
@@YouPlantTubethanks for your reply. I’ve got my first seedlings in modules in my little greenhouse.hoping there warm enough. I’m going to plant them in a patch in my garden. Does the same method apply when re potting to bigger pots? Thank you 🙏🏻
Is this similar to growing Romanesco Broccoli/Cauliflower? Not sure if you are familiar. BTW thanks for this video!! I feel more confident starting
thật là tuyệt vời, tôi rất thích video này.
Will another couliflour grow once harvested 🤔
No sadly. 1 and done
Nope, it only grows once
Not another flower, but it can give many more young plants .After cutting it's head ,let the plant live up to next season.U can see the young plants in its stem. Separate these young ones from the mother plant and plant it well. Now I have 5th generation cauli plants in my kitchen garden.😊
How can we stop these getting eaten. By bugs
Can you eat the leaves?
This is amazing step by step guide. I came across your channel today and looking forward to watch more videos. Are you from UK?
Yes, thank you
So once the cauliflower is harvested does another one grow or do we need to pull the plant and start all over?
Unfortunately one head per plant.
Why did you use mesh on top for a while?
Do you need to cover them with netting ?
Absolutely! In the early stages, I use netting to protect seedlings from birds and other potential hazards. Once they've grown a bit, I remove it to allow for better airflow and space. It's a protective measure during the vulnerable phase. If you have more questions or need gardening tips, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱
There was no link to the video where they didnt grow
very methodic work , good
Absolutely! thanks for watching.
Is't wise to plant cauliflower in winter?
Stupid question does one plant make 1 cauliflower or is more than one possible per plant?
Incredible, thanks for this!
My pleasure!
Thanks again
Always welcome
Thank you for step by step guide of the cauliflowers. I more interesting in your compost bin, looks very useful. 😆
Well in that case you should watch my video on composting. ua-cam.com/video/kwXCiNzUv9s/v-deo.html
Is it typical of your variety to have the heads not quite to compact?
With many varieties on the market and all of them having their advantages and disadvantages it's possible..
My previous attempt with a different variety grew me some dinosaur leaves but no head.
Which you can watch here ua-cam.com/video/d7rwn-rTIEY/v-deo.html
@@YouPlantTube too much nitrogen?
Why did the First batch didn't flower?
I just planted cauliflower. It germinated in 3 days
My plant is growing slender long.. why is that?
I always wonder, why the seeds are not directly seeded in the final pot or land. Please help me understand this.
Regards
It's always better to have an established vegetable plant with its root system and it's true leaves transplanted directly into the soil, a seed would have less of a chance of survival from the outside weather elements not to mention those pesti slugs and snails and other insects that will eat your plant before it's even has a chance to develop a proper root system.
Good
Thanks
Always soak your seeds in water for 24 hours and always put one seed in each section so you don't damage the roots trying to separate them later on.
Was there a difference in the density of the planter boxes. To the ones in the ground
Had a few planted in the ground with probably less than the minimum space required to do so but that's all the space I had at the time. Untreated and unprepared garden soil was used for the ones in the ground, a possible reason for slower growth, but eventually, they did form some decent heads.
@@YouPlantTube thanks for replying just wondering deciding on my next steps for a small indoor garden cauliflower is massive. Lol
Will the head regrow after being harvested?
Unlike broccoli, however, which produces multiple side shoots, cauliflower only produces a single head which means you have one chance to get it right. The main thing to remember is that the plant thrives in temperatures around 60-65 F. (16-18 C.)
Start as late as possible nin summer. Prefer June.
Is this on the uk? I started mine last year in March in uk and got nothing just all went to seed this summer
Sorry for the late response! No not currently in the UK. Started seeds in September on an island in the Mediterranean Sea. Though the seed package recommended I plant my seeds from January to June I went ahead and planted them in September, cauliflower prefers cooler weather to grow optimally, the climate is too warm to start seeds before September at my current location.
What do you spray on them for bugs?
I don't use any chemicals on my food because I grow organically. I, on a daily basis manually remove any unwanted critters by hand.
Do any pesticide and fungicide required?
I grew these cauliflowers using organic methods and I was quite lucky because I didn't have any pest outbreak but I'm sure a bit of Dish-washing soap and water won't affect the plant too much.
@@YouPlantTube thank u .
What country are you from?
How do you avoid slugs snails from eating away the cauliflowers?
I only grow organically without pesticides and chemicals so I manually check each and individual plant after dark with a flashlight and remove any unwanted pests.
Save your eggshells. Blend them in a blender and spread around the base of the plant. The sharp pieces hinder and kill slugs
Which zone are you located in?
Zone 10a
Are the leaves edible?
Cauliflower stems and leaves are totally edible.
You can rub them with oil and seasoning and bake in a hot oven until crisp and other methods.
I done no thats way I asking for u sir
first ,
Hi! I am new to gardening. I would like to ask once the head is harvested will it grow another head or will the plant die afterwards? Thank you.
Unlike broccoli, however, which produces multiple side shoots, cauliflower only produces a single head which means you have one chance to get it right. The main thing to remember is that the plant thrives in temperatures around 60-65 F. (16-18 C.)
@@YouPlantTube Thank you.
i eat the leaves too not just the flower. Cauliflower takes patience it is slow growing and 50% germination rate means I plant twice as many seedlings. I freeze mine.
Thanks for sharing
My cauliflower is now starting to form a head (idk if it's bad if it's now happening in the summer). I didn't know it'll take so long but I'm excited and hope it grows into a big white head😊😊
I found this video very useful as I am growing for the first time. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure and enjoy the fruits of your labours!
Could you tell me What kind of fertiliser does cauliflower need? Thank you!
Sorry for the late reply! Cauliflower benefits from a balanced fertilizer with equal parts nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (like a 10-10-10 mix) during the growing season. As they start forming heads, a fertilizer higher in phosphorus can help. Organic options like compost or well-rotted manure work great too! If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱😊
Amazing step by step and adding the date , thank you
You are most welcome
So it takes 5 months to grow Kali flower wow
About 4 months actually but longer if it struggles
@@247KW I did sow some cabbages and cauliflower after this . They are very tiny till now . First time in my life .... It's very therapeutic seeing them grow . Thank you
That's why cauliflower is so expensive in the shops.
I grew 8 at the beginning this year
Now only one remain
It's like it took their soul
Can you eat the green cabbage leaves like greens?
I'm going to plant seeds now ..can't wait ..I'm so excited for this video now I can get started, thank you for this video 🎉🎉🎉
Good luck!!
Just wondering, are the greens edible?
The outer leaves of cauliflower are delicious and edible but many people throw them away. You can cook them just like spring greens and use them as a substitute for any leafy greens such as kale and collard greens
@@YouPlantTube thank you! i see them being thrown out all the time.
I’ve been searching all the comments and your “more info” section. Nary a word in reference to where you live that you can have plants outside in December, January, etc. I’m in Nova Scotia and this would be impossible.
I am situated on a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. Normally most seed packets should provide the appropriate information that is necessary for your area. Thank you for your comment.
use a fork to remove them from the tray 😉
Great thanks 👍👍
Thank you too
This was really helpful thank you. My planter is 75cm long and 55cm wide. I was hoping to fit two purple broccoli and two cauliflower in there, but now I'm not so sure?
That's not a failed attempt. The leaves are tasty and nutritious. You'll have an immediately more bountiful harvest once you regard the leaves as you would kale, collard greens, or chard.
when and what type of fertilizer should be used , for cauliflower crop?
how should we can protect our kitchen garden from insects etc ?
thanks
Great video, I am currently growing 6, i have moved them from the seed pots to the next phase, but the leafs are no way as big as yours in the video. I am watering them everyday is this correct?
can you grow them in a 30L tub instead?
Cauliflower can be grown in a 30L tub with proper soil and care. Just ensure good drainage, use quality potting mix, and monitor watering. Adequate space for the cauliflower to develop is crucial. Also, remember to use organic fertilizers every 2 or 3 weeks for optimal growth. If you have more questions or need gardening tips, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱
Good advice thanks 👍
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the advice helpful. If you have any more questions or need gardening tips, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱
I live in Dallas Tx ( Zone 8). What’s the right time to start seeds ?
Can I transplant directly from the seed tray to my planter box?
In Dallas, Texas (Zone 8), you can start cauliflower seeds indoors about 4-6 weeks before your last expected frost date, which is typically in late winter or early spring. As for transplanting, it's usually best to start seedlings in seed trays and then transplant them into your planter box once they have developed a few true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle the transplant process. Make sure to harden off your seedlings before transplanting them outdoors to help them adjust to the outdoor conditions gradually. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! 🌱😊
@@YouPlantTube
Would September/ October be okay to plant cauliflower seeds?
Absolutely, I've tried to grow cauliflower in the spring and was unsuccessful many times, Zone 10 is tough.
So yeah mid-September October should be ideal for zone 8.
So is a cauliflower a one harvest plant? 120+ days (4 months) for a single head? Do I understand this correctly? I want to plant cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, beans and some other veg into natural raised garden beds I’ve created (I threw all my garden refuse ((tree stumps, grass, leaves etc)) into a few 2metre by 1 metre by half a metre deep) and covered them with soil. We nearing the end of winter here and it’ll be planting season soon, so trying to do as much researching as possible so I don’t botch it. We got tomatoes and spinach growing nicely and I like the idea of being able to harvest from them near indefinitely… not sure about waiting 4 months with a chance of not getting a head or only getting a single head and then having to start again… sorry for the long comment. Any insights will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, unfortunately cauliflower normally only produces one head, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration when trying to grow cauliflower, to maximize any success outcome, one of my biggest problems is I don't have a long enough winter with cool temperatures as I am situated on a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, you could probably grow cauliflower with less time than I did if you have a longer winter with cool periods.
You sold me on starting them in seed trays vs planting seeds directly in the bed with your comparison cauliflower - I wouldn't have a long enough growing season to let my directly seeded plants to finish producing!
I love the amount of information about growing cauliflower that is packed into eight minutes. I appreciate there is not extra chatter. It seems like otherwise good channels use nonsense to extend the length of their videos to 20-30 minutes.
How true..! Thanks for watching.
I grew my cauliflowers in pots but the heads started to grow then after 2 days they grew mouldy and brown they where prob the size if a small apple
How unfortunate, I personally find growing cauliflower in pots extremely difficult as the pot needs to be very large because the roots system is very demanding to grow a decent cauliflower head, Don't give up, learn from your mistakes and try again. Good Luck next time.
Please replay sir
Sowing in pots to start did you give artificial light? Or window, temperature?
Germination period I avoided using any Direct sunlight and no Artificial lights.
For these seeds I situated them in a shaded cool place near a window and with the first sign of germination place them outside for a couple of hours of daylight for the first 2 days so they could gradually adapt to the new environment.
Are those fioretto cauliflower
Where can one get those gloves?
Once cut the flower once again will grow flower from plant
No. Unlike broccoli, however, which produces multiple side shoots, cauliflower only produces a single head which means you have one chance to get it right. The main thing to remember is that the plant thrives in temperatures around 60-65 F. (16-18 C.)
Do cauliflower plants take alot of water and what time of the yr is best to grow them? Cooler or hotter weather?
Plants need an even moisture supply to avoid stress. Water as necessary to keep the soil consistently moist.
If you live where winter temperatures stay above 20 degrees, you can grow selected cauliflower varieties through winter for harvest in spring as I have done in this video.
Most varieties of cauliflower are grown in the spring and produce their flower heads before summer's hot temperatures ramp-up. (Mostly northern areas of the world)
But the best advice would be to check on the back of your seed package to check to see which month is suited for your variety type.
Beautiful job from Jamaica xx 👍
Thank you! 😊
Mine is huge but not turning white. Is there a reason why? The heads are green like broccoli (it’s def cauliflower though. There’s small spots of white but that’s it)
Is it a different variety maybe? Romanesco?
@@teefawnzee maybe! I’ve never grown that before. I’ll have to look it up. I finally harvested it bc it started tiny shoots all over 3-4” higher randomly bc it’s getting hot where I live. Going to blanch whatever it is and food saver it in pouches to roast or steam later 🤷🏻♀️😂
